Newbie! Need info I'm doing as much research as possible to make sure I know how to take very good care of my new puppy. We haven't taken her home yet. She's almost 7 weeks old. We are supposed to be taking her home when she turns 8 weeks (which I think is still a little too young), but I found out that the breeder wants us to take her home either today or in the next few days. I was hoping that she was going to keep the puppy until she was at least 10 weeks old, but I guess she's not. I don't really know what to do. I know how fragile yorkies can be and I'm worried something bad will happen if we take her home at 7 weeks old. My sister-in-law is a vet, so if anything we can call her. Is she going to be ok if we do end up taking her home within the next few days?? P.S. We already paid a partial amount for the puppy. We were allowed to see the inside of the breeders house and where she kept the puppies. We got to meet the mom and dad of the puppies and they are well taken care of. |
If the deposit is not refundable and you did not pay too much already, chalk it up as a learning experience and go to a reputable breeder, who surely won't want you to take it home at 7 weeks. |
:goodpost: Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't bring one home before 12 weeks. Mr. Beasley was 12 weeks old when I purchased him, but I have since found out that I bought from a broker who most likely sold for a puppy mill. No telling when he left his mom. That said, is the puppy over 2lbs yet? |

Yorkie puppies should not leave there mothers until they are 12 weeks old. All reputable breeders know this and its is also what the YTCA says. If she isn't keeping the puppies until 12 weeks I would also be worried about other things she hasn't done. Were the parents health tested? Is LP in there lines? Are they AKC registered? I think if at all possible I would not get my puppy from this breeder. |

The ONLY thing I want to know is if it is possible for things to be ok if we do have to bring the puppy home at 7 weeks? |
Every state has their own regulations and laws on puppies and how old they need to be before they can be released to the new owners (forever homes/families.) Check your area and that relay that information to the breeder. She may be breaking the law is she insist on you taking her sooner. Here in Ohio it is at 8 weeks. Each individual breeder may choose to keep them longer for the health and well being of the pup. |

Things can go fine with bringing home an 8 week pup. I'm sure you'll be getting her vet checked right away. It's also great that you have a family member who's a vet. She will be a great resource for you. Good luck and I'm looking forward to seeing pics of your new baby:) |

Congrats. I think you're going to be very happy with your new puppy. Definitely see if they'll let the puppy stay with the mom another week. After that you should be fine. There is much info to learn here and on other sites around the internet. Arm yourself with good information and you will be ready to raise your child. |
I ended up bringing my puppy home at 6 and half weeks old (yes I know way way toooo young). He was so tiny but he hasn't had any problems and he is now 6 months old and very healthy. |
