AKC Yorkie from Petstore?

he is a cutie and while a pet store might not be the preferred place to purchase a dog, it is not all dome and gloom, I know of several people that have had pet store dogs live long healthy lives. After being on this site less than a week I have read at least 5 stories of people getting lied to by breeders, seems there are breeders who might look reputable but are worse than pet stores. So please don't let the comments spoil the joy a new puppy brings into the house.

It's not a matter of doom and gloom. Simply, personal experiences. And once again, as stated in my posts, many "bad breeders" that are selling people 6 week and under puppies are the same "breeders" as Petland and the pet stores call them that are selling them the puppies as well.
I have a dog from a pet store, and I love him to death, but I'm still paying off vet bills due to tummy problems. Not to mention the emotional toll of trying to train a dog with severe separation anxiety from being taken away from his Momma so quickly and so young,

But, I'm getting off track. Yogi's Momma, he's a doll. And I love his bear face. Try to get insurance on him asap it'll help with anything that the health guarantee doesn't cover.

There will always be bad breeders, some sell to pet stores, some sell over the internet and even on Yorkietalk. If you do a search on YT you will find plenty of information on how to find a reputable breeder. The more we can convince people to seek out truly reputable breeders, the more we can do about shutting down puppy mills and backyard breeders. You can buy a perfectly healthy beautiful dog from a pet store, however, many of us are concerned about the conditions of the breeding dogs, the ones left behind. Afterall the OP did say:

I certainly don't want to spoil the joy, but we can't turn a blind eye to puppy mills, and my guess is 90 percent or more of us made mistakes in the past, about buying from bad breeders or pet stores, that's why many of us think it's important to educate, not to blame, but to educate on what to do next time. I know, it's really heart wrenching and I swear I didn't even use the worst of the pictures. We love our little babies so much and they give us so much pleasure I think it's up to all of us to really want to protect the breeding dogs and ensure they are being taking care of popular. So whether it's getting involved in breeding legislation in your state, buying a dog, or educating others on how to buy a dog, we all need to get involved.

I will say, that at least breeders who sell to pet stores have to be inspected by the USDA, those breeders who choose to sell directly to the public and over the internet, need never be inspected. There is no law that covers the conditions of the kennels for those breeders. So it's worse to buy over the internet than from a pet store. See the kennel conditions for yourself!

As soon as I was done watching the last one (the MJ song, omg such emotion) I ran, picked up Gizmo and got him his favorite chewie and just cuddled, cried, and loved him.
To think he may have came from something like that. I'm afraid to look at the information of where he was from on the papers the store gave me...

All pet store puppies are from puppy mills having AKC doesn't mean its not a puppy mill dog. Also at 10 weeks all reputable breeders know he still should be with his mommy. At least now you know not to get a puppy from a pet store next time and can make sure to tell your friends and family this as well. I hope you get lucky and he is healthy and stays healthy his hole life.

All pet stores sell puppy mill dogs and puppy mills parents are treated like crap kept in out buildings with no heat or ac, never groomed, never bathed, rarely feed, never have human contact except for the puppies to be take away before they even should be. So yes it is all dome and gloom and I urge you to do some research. Also most people who have the stories or the bad breeders did do the research about the breeder to make sure to find a reputable one. There are people who have healthy puppies from pet stores by why do you want to take the chance and support what they do to the parents?

How cute! Well, I wish you luck with your baby. I just went to PetLand for the first time on Saturday. I had no idea they had live pets in there. Plenty of cute dogs. I was more fascinated with the hamsters. LOL

My Bella came from a local Pet Store - I had no idea when I bought her that we should not buy from a pet store. I know now... She is an awesome puppy and we love her so much.

I tried to research some of the state inspections from the Kennel she was born at and found some information....I bet I could probably request reports from the state....
