| ![]() Hi my 11 week old yorkie meesha will only sleep in my bed... i have a few beds for her, she'll sleep in them throughout the day, but as soon as i go to go to sleep in my bed she cries to get up. I tryed waiting to see if she'd stop crying one night, she didn't and attempted to run and jump and try to climb... now i don't mind her sleeping with me, but she'll wake me up in the night if she needs to go to her pee pads, ...so i haven't been getting a good nights sleep. My father is building her a ramp with carpet so she can come and go, but for now i have big pillows all around my bed in case she falls out, she'll not fall far, onto them. Is this normal? LOL, i had a sheltie before and he never slept in the bed or ever wanted to.... is it safe?or should i try to train her to sleep in her own bed until she gets older?just wondeirng if it is normal for an 11 week old puppy to sleep in my bed, or is this developing a bad habit for her? |

| ![]() She's a little young to expect her to stay in her bed unless she's in a crate. We got Gracie at 15 weeks and put her in a small crate (soft bed, blankie) on a chair right next to the bed where she could see me. She settled down fine. The very few times she whimpered, I just tapped the crate and she'd settle down, but I never made a fuss so as not to reward her behavior. Eventually, we moved her into a bigger crate on the floor not right next to the bed. Your baby will still may wake you to go potty, though. Gracie was able to go 8 hours so could wait until about 5:30 or 6 AM, which wasn't too bad. Eventually she started sleeping in our bed at about 6 months because I was out of town for a couple of nights and my DH felt sorry for her! There was no putting her back in the crate after that! But your baby's young enough, you can probably get her comfortable in a crate in a couple of days. Good luck. |

| ![]() When Callie was a puppy she slept in a crate at night until she was potty trained and it made me feel she was safer. Maybe you should crate her at night. Yes she will cry and bark for you to let her out but after a while of you only letting her out to take her potty and right back in the crate she will get the hang of it.

| ![]() ZoE has slept in my bed since she was 6 weeks & 3days old (she just turned one year old this month). She's never had a potty accident on my bed and has always woken me up when she's needed to go pee in the night...although she has puked on my bed before.

| ![]() Our yorkies sleep with us. Our senior boy, Rocco prefers to sleep in his bed right next to us, but both Marlee, and her son, Rocco sleep under the covers with us. When Marlee started labor, we laid under my covers and I could feel her contractions!

YT 1000 Club Member | ![]() My Romeo has only slept in his crate the first night I brought him home (at 12 weeks old). He was such a tiny pup that I just felt badly leaving him in a crate while I slept in my bed so the second night I put his bed on the floor right next to my bed. Needless to say I was up all night checking on him. So after maybe a week or two of this I moved him up to my bed and 2 1/2 years later that's where he sleeps. I have noticed however that most nights he likes to catch a couple hours sleep in the living room (guess Romeo needs alone time) and around 1 or 2 am he'll make his way into my room so that I could put him on the bed. The wonderful thing about letting Romeo sleep on my bed -- if I wanted to sleep late on weekends he would too -- the little boy will sleep a solid 12 hours on the bed as long as I am there with him!!!

| ![]() My first puppy slept in bed with me from 8 weeks on... she also would wake me for potty breaks, but then that stopped as she was able to wait till morning. Just once they start sleeping in your bed, it's very hard to change your mind!

| ![]() Ella has slept in our bed since the first night we got her. We tries gating her off in the bathroom which you can see from my bed it's literally right there... She cried and barked for about 2 hrS and since we lived in a different apartment then and had very rude neighbors underneath us, we caved and put her in the bed with us. She will put herself on our bed using her stairs about an hour before we go to bed and will sleep until after we are up and ready for work!! She is lazy ![]()

| ![]() Gracie slept with me from the first night. I have to admit I have never crate trained. Back when I was growing up it was unheard of. Either you confined you pup in the kitchen or you tied it up out back. Well, the kitchen thing was fine during the day when no one could watch the pup but no one wanted to hear a puppy crying all night in the kitchen so I was the one who usually had the puppy in my bed. I have to say the invention of puppy pee pads is a great improvement over the newspaper thing. Gracie almost always slept all night when she was a puppy and when she did wake up I would put her on the pee pad and we went back to bed. She now has pet steps so she gets up and down off the bed as she pleases. One side of my bed is against the wall and I blocked her from getting to the other side. I put one of those body pillows along the edge of the bed where it was up against the wall to make sure she wouldn't slip down off the edge. I'd guess more than half the people on YT let their dogs sleep with them while the rest prefer not to have their dogs in the bed. Our family always trained our dogs to have run of the house. Even when I worked outside the home our dog had run of the house once he was house trained. He stayed in the kitchen when we were not home until he was totally trust worthy. |

| ![]() ya gracielove, i have my bed against the wall with a body pillow too!, and then pillows all over the floor by the bed, just in case, i never tryed the crate thing before, our sheltie was gated in the kitchen then when he got out of the little puppy stage he had the run of the house. Yorkies seem to be more needy and want to be close at all times, so the sleeping in the bed thing is a first, i just wasnt sure if shes too young, might give the crate try a go until shes a little bigger?..,but it breaks my heart when she cries. she likes to sleep in the comfortor or on my arm,lol ... hmm i'm torn on what i should do, just keep letting her sleep with me or try a crate, i worry about her not being able to breathe under the comfortor, i don't move in my sleep so i know i'm not going to squish her, i sometimes wonder what will happen if she falls on a pillow on my floor from out of my bed, i'm always so worried about her lol i guess i'll get more comfortable as she gets older and get to know her better, i'm just glad she dosen't potty in my bed and wakes me up to go to her pee pad LOL |
