| Boarding..... We made vacation plans, reservations, paid in full to go to Mexico around Christmas in June. This was BEFORE we got Brutus. When I was thinking of taking him, I did think about our vacation and thought "I'll just board him, that's what everyone else does". Now that he's my baby, I just don't think I can do it. Ideas??? I am really thinking of having someone housesit so they can be with Brutus, but I know my husband won't like the idea of someone staying in our house. Another option would be having someone come over multiple times during the day. The only family I have around has a very old dog and 2 cats, so Brutus staying with them is not an option.

| It's amazing how they capture our hearts, huh? I always thought the same thing "OH, I'll just board him". Nope, never have and I never will unless I REALLY have to. However, I am lucky that I have family willing to watch him. If I absolutely HAD to board, I would find a top notch place that I really trusted. Some dogs are fine with boarding, though. I just know Jackson would be one to freak out. But if Brutus is a happy friendly little guy, it probably wouldn't be an issue. You can find a responsible, clean place and go and tour, etc, and make you feel more comfortable. Me, personally, I would opt to have someone watch him in my home, just because I know that is where he is more comfortable. But I do understand not everyone is comfortable with it. But if you find a place that is bonded and insured, etc. It shouldn't be a problem. Either way, good luck with your decision! I have shortened some trips and cancelled some because I did not wanna leave my boy.

| Yes, they sure do incorporate themselves into your family very quick! I guess I would feel better if he could stay in his own environment - at home. Even if the place that boards is "top notch", I would still be concerned that he wasn't getting enough attention. Making trips away from home will definately be different from now on. Maybe I would feel different if he was older - nah, I doubt it.

| I have never boarded Callie and dont think I ever could plus with her sugar issues lately I cant take the chance of her having an episode and no one there to see it. She has never been left alone ever either and it does become difficult sometimes but its not to bad. I take her with us when ever we go out of town. I left her one time for 5 days and she stayed at our house (I live with my grandparents) and my grandma even slept in my bed so Callie could sleep in her bed and another time I left her for 1 night and it was the same thing. When we go out of town like to my cousins graduation I cant go to the graduation because of my anxiety so its no big deal staying back from that and chilling with Callie. I'm happier when Callie is with me because I know she is ok I dont think I could ever go out of town with out her again both the times I did it was 3 years ago.

YT 1000 Club Member | Oh goodness your story sounded like mine before I got Romeo... thought I'll just board him and go on vacation. Since this little guy has been with me (26 months now) I refuse to take a vacation unless I can take him along. My sister and mom are available to care for him if I have to go away but he is quite a picky eater and has never spent a single night away from me so not sure how he and I will handle separation. Our babies sure do take over our hearts...LOVE LOVE LOVE

| I always get a house sitter but then I have 5 dogs. Boarding would cost more than the vacation. I hate being away from my dogs for more than one evening. They have gone with us on every vacation in 13 years except The cruse the kids got us and a week in Ut.

| We take Sophie with us where ever we go in the U.S. but we go out of the country on vacation for two weeks each year where Sophie can't go. We could not bring ourselves to actually board Sophie but we found another alternative by having Sophie's groomer take her home with her where she has run of the house along with our groomer's Chi. They love to play together. Sophie sleeps at the foot of her daughter's bed after she is read a bedtime story . It gives us peace of mind because she knows, likes and trusts her groomer and we are only charged ten dollars a day, too. I still miss her terribly until we pick her up and email the groomer almost everyday we're gone just to check on Sophie though . We tell Sophie she is going on vacation, too .

| I have a girl across the road that I have come stay at my house all week. She's not working...and not the party type...so no worries there.....she stayed with Champ for a week for us......we paid her a 100 to stay and she was tickled with that....now we have Chloe too......it's hard to go on vacation when you have little ones. |

| I am so glad to hear that I am not alone in how I feel about leaving him. I figured I needed to plan now so if I have a new person come in when we are gone Brutus would have time to meet and bond. Taking him to Mexico with us is not an option, nor is cancelling as I paid for 4 people and my skin 19 year old would NOT be happy. Trying to please everyone in the family. I really want to being someone in the house so I know that he is being kept on a similar schedule and he is getting exercise.

| Actually my vet clinic is full service, grooming, puppy classes and boarding. I initially felt that I was blessed to have so many services available at a place he knew. I feel they do love their clients BUT do I want him to stay there for 6 days??? As mentioned before, taking him to Mexico isn't an option. Do you think it is out of place to ask one of the vet techs that he is familiar with (at the vet and conducts the classes) to take him on if I am more than willing to pay?

Asking a vet tech to watch him at your house or his sounds like a great idea. 1. You know that they love animals. 2. If god forbid anything should happen they are trained. Good luck with finding a great boarding place for your baby.

| I prefer vet office boarding. They may be less "fun" than doggie daycares, but my dogs can't be around other dogs anyway, and besides I like to be familiar with the staff, etc. If there is a problem, the vet is right there. In-home visits are nice. Not sure I'd want somebody staying at my house for it. But also I have a snappy girl and can't have her around just anybody. I think vet offices are much less likely to give me a hard time if she were to snap (probably wouldn't happen) because they deal with it all the time.
