| Did you buy? OR rescue? How many of you have bought your dogs? And how many of you have rescued your dogs? And whats your rescue stories? I have a yorkie, who needed a home at the age of 7 weeks, the owner(an older gentlemen) bought and couldnt potty train, and so he didnt want him any more, i work at a vet clinic, and so he gave him to me. So i just got him given to me for free. He wasnt abused or neglected, he just didnt want him, and didnt deserve him. I paid for my jack russell/ rat terrier mix. He was our first dog after we got married. And a puggle/jack Russell mix was a rescue for sure. His owners had his mother, and she got pregnant on accident by their daughters puggle. Long story short, they brought the pregnant mom to the vet where i work to find out how many puppies , there were 6. And they said they didnt want her tied down taking care of puppies, and they didnt want mutts, so they would kill them asap after being born. So i offered, and they agreed to let me take them all immediately after being born, and i bottle fed all of them , and they all survived. None got to nurse or anything, they lived 2 hrs from us, and we started driving as soon as she went into labor, and they were still bloody, she didnt even let the mom clean them, she just tossed them in a laundry basket and handed them to me. It was a very rewarding experience though. I enjoyed every minute of it though. And last but not least, we just rescued a Labrador puppy, from a girl and her boyfriend who got him and tied him to their tree, they had him from 8 weeks to 4 months. He is the best puppy i have ever had. I will never buy another dog again, i will only rescue! Too many unwanted lives. |

| Bless you for rescue. All of our, (7) dogs have been rescues. They have ranged in age from around 1 for Zeke to around 15 for Zipp whose story is here on YT. Do a search for Spike the 15 yr old dropped at the shelter about nov/dec 2009. See my page for the current 4 named the "Z" Gang.

| My Jenks bounced around a good bit. Supposedly he is full Yorkie? I will likely never know. The first owner a woman claims she got him from a breeder but was moving and couldn't keep him. Gave him to my stepsister and she realized surprise that small dogs have to go out to pee a lot and she didn't want to deal with it. She gave him to my gram who has a teeny little poodle that weighs about 3 or 4 pounds I think? Well it got upset by another dog in the house and wouldn't eat then it went into heat. My gram was going to take him to the pound. I was not really looking for a dog but I couldn't let him die (small town shelter would probably end up putting him down) plus he was so ugly he was cute (they had shaved all his hair off and it was sticking up in tufts poor baby) I have not had him long but he is loving and adorable. I have him off the Old Roy he came to me with and on good food, his hair is growing back out it is sort of at an in-between stage right now. He is fixing to go the the vet and have his titers checked and get neutered/spayed?. Then we will start looking for some pet insurance. I didn't really plan for a dog but the kids adore him and I can't help but love him. |

| We bought from a good breeder. Before I did much research I was thinking it would be 'nice' to get a rescue and I ended up emailing someone locally whose phone# was on some rescue site and told her what I was thinking. I'll admit I probably indicated some ignorance, but her email reply was so rude that I decided at that point not to try to rescue. In retrospect I'm glad I didn't. This is my first yorkie puppy (had a cocker from puppyhood until she died at age 13 10 years ago) and I'm still absolutely in learning mode. I probably wouldn't have been a good mom for a rescue, but I can tell I'm not going to be satisfied forever with just one of these cuties so maybe a rescue is in my future |

| I bought from a breeder that I tried to ask all the right questions & research & I thought she was pretty good. Wrong. BYB all the way. I'd like to try to rescue for future pups, but I guess it depends on where my life's at at the time. Since becoming a dog owner I really see & feel the effects of so many homeless animals.

| I paid for Jackson, however not from a good breeder. Saw his ads online... it was just a woman whose dog had pups in her home. The female was her pet, the father was her neighbors dog, so she only had one dog herself. Total BYB but at least Jackson was raised in a house, etc. I'd never do it like this again though.

| My Scooter was a rescue where Sadie was bought, this is before I was educated about puppy mills. I prefer the rescues. I have always had rescued dogs and they just seem to know that you are saving them. I know that may sound stupid but I believe it.

| My Marley Got my Marley one day when a woman rushed into my office holding a small dog and said, "What town is this, and do you recognize this dog?" She was on her way north, and could not stay to try to find the dog's owner. Marley had been trotting down the middle of the busy highway in front of my office. He was probably a few seconds from being run over. Long story short, he became my dog and my office mascot. He's a wonderful dog, and goes to work with me most days. His job is to greet clients and entertain children. He does a great job and earns his kibble every day. I love my boy so much. |

| I don't see any reason not to buy a dog from a home as long as it isn't a puppy mill. There are no small dogs at the SPCA where I live. We had to buy one. We chose Ozzy from a breeder nearby who breeds their own pair of yorkies. It was obvious they were all really well cared for. Ozzy has been completely social, loving, healthy and well adjusted since day one. We met and played with him, his mom, and his dad. They were all happy and healthy. So, BYB or not, we're happy with the people we bought him from. If we wanted another yorkie I wouldn't hesitate to call that same person. I simply couldn't justify paying $1000 more for a dog that came from a show dog breeder when we have no intention of ever breeding our own dog.

| Levi is a rescue. He was around two when I got him. He is the absolute perfect pup for me. He is so funny, loving, playful, and social, and thankfully, we've had no real health worries. Rescues are amazing - and I can't say enough wonderful things about Levi's rescue, his foster mom, and the whole experience.

| Bought the Yorkie. Rescued the hound. He just showed by on my Facebook one day (through a vet office Facebook page - they do rescue too). Apparently he was in a kill shelter in Ohio - on death row! My poor lil guy. We were seriously not having anymore dogs right now. LOL. But 2 is it! The landlord may throw a fit if we ask about getting another one.

| Jada and Bogie are both rehomes that I consider rescues...especially my little girl Jada who was bred when she wasn't big enough to breed. Her first litter she had a singleton emergency c-section/spay and our mutual vet convinced the breeder(greeder) to give her up...he called me and we have had her since her pup was ripped away from her at 6 weeks. Bogie from the same breeder, but he was a pup that she had imported from Germany....as he grew she didn't like his markings and he was tracking to be to big for her female...so she called our vet to find him a home and he called me and Bogie was given to us for the charge of a neuter bill. I have never met this breeder and doubt I ever will...since this time she has rehomed to my mom a little biewer girl and to my vet a biewer girl..and two of my co-workers have rehomes from her.

| I bought Harley from a great breeder who gave me exactly what we were looking for. We are both young with limited budgets (me and the bf) and I knew that in my heart I had enough time and money to train a puppy and provide a small emergency fund, I've rescued horses in the past and knew that I had to have a lot more money and time if I took on a rescue. We made the sound decision that it wasn't fair to rescue a dog if we couldn't afford to completely save it's life (any necessary vet bills, therapy, and training). When I finish school I would like our 2nd or third dog to be a rescue. I'm not against buying from a breeder (because I compete in agility, and some times you're just looking for a certain build etc) but would love to take a rescue and take it through the agility ranks as well.

| I bought both of mine but I give alot of gratitude and respect to those who do rescue and those that foster. If I didnt already have 2 dogs and 5 cats I would consider fostering but as it is I have a house full
