I don't see any reason not to buy a dog from a home as long as it isn't a puppy mill. There are no small dogs at the SPCA where I live. We had to buy one. We chose Ozzy from a breeder nearby who breeds their own pair of yorkies. It was obvious they were all really well cared for. Ozzy has been completely social, loving, healthy and well adjusted since day one. We met and played with him, his mom, and his dad. They were all happy and healthy. So, BYB or not, we're happy with the people we bought him from. If we wanted another yorkie I wouldn't hesitate to call that same person. I simply couldn't justify paying $1000 more for a dog that came from a show dog breeder when we have no intention of ever breeding our own dog.
