				 | As I watch the dogs in my neighborhood,I have come to realize that there are people out there that think it is ok for a small dog to roam free, they are tiny and cannt hurt anyone,,right?,they are just animals so they know to stay out of the street,,right?,they are sooooo cute that noone would hurt them except the hawks and coyotes (ya even in the middle of FtW TX). I have neighbors on both corners that have chihuahuas they dont care properly for (all under 3lbs). One nolonger roams because her mommy leaves her on the front screened in porche ALL of the time,it was 102 yesterday. She barks and whines because she is so lonely and I get to listen to her.I have returned her once or twice and told the lady that I didn't want to see her in my yard again and to get her fence fixed (I was nicer than that). The others have 2 chihuahuas and I finally called code inforcement because the neighbor got mad at ME for returning her dogs. She isn't much nicer to her children but I only see then in the frontyard. Both of these neighbors are overwhelmed and overworked and just can not figure out how to make it all work. It probably never occured to them to find a better home than theirs because theirs is just fine. It is just so sad to me that people dont think to get their babies fixed and not produce puppies,,cause those are cute too. My daddy used to tell me that "common sense" isn't so common and as I get older I see less and less of the sense part. I am so sorry that you are stuck watching this from across the street,I feel your pain. If you are able to stay on friendly terms with the folks across the street, maybe at some point the lady will tell you that the little guy is just to much. You could be a really good neighbor and offer to take him. |

				 | well.. I walk three dogs... it is a funny site I can tell you I have had the same experiences a few times, some people should not have dogs. I will say I had a little Pom that was a runner. Several times, after chasing him for HOURS, I would get a call from someone who found him. *sign* it did cause a lot of stress. I alternated between wanting to kill him and crying out of fear he was hurt. Now.. to your troubles... I like the "hiding him" for a day - and then "finding" him down the road and being the "hero". At that time you could offer the advice. I wish you luck

				 | I am happy that she was responsive to you. I hope she takes your advice. That baby is too little to just roam free. He needs protection by use of the gate. Good luck. Sound like you may have gotten through to her.

				 | Just to comment on some suggestions: I am not stealing the dog. I definitely don't think it's the right thing to do. I'm not going to save one dog so she can do this to another. I prefer helping her and trying to explain a little about the breed. I doubt I got through to her as a caring dog owner but it's possible she may put up the fence.[/QUOTE] I hope that maybe she will think, but not counting on it. If she has children that are that young and she expects them to keep the dog in the yard, then she may not be a very deep thinking person. The kids need the fence too. It was nice of you to try to keep things open between you and your neighbor. You may have an oppertunity here to touch her life and the lives of her children. |

				 | you are right about the fact that if Bentely does runaway and is gone the woman would no doubt replace him.. Was not thinking about that. Your also very patient and kind to your neighbor. Although frustrating your a problem solver. LIttle Bentely got very lucky to have such a nice lady looking after his needs when his owner is negligent. Education is the key and a whole lot of patience. Hopefully she will take your suggestions to heart and do something for Bentely. She sounds like she cares even though she placed blame on he own little kids.
