My Neighbor's Yorkie Is Going to Run Away
 

My blood is boiling and I am not an angry person. Here's the situation:

Some folks rented the house across the street from me several months ago. Shortly after I saw the cutest Yorkie puppy playing in their front yard with their kids while Mom was watering the flowers. There are no fences surrounding any properties here and there are very large areas of grass. I figured it was fine as the dog was clearly a puppy and was noticeably following them wherever they went.

Fast forward to a few months later. The Yorkie is now a bit bigger. I can only guess the age to be around 6 months. He looks about 5-6 pounds. A few weeks ago I was leaving the house and noticed him standing at my front door! I went to pick him up and he rolled over on his back for belly rubs (he's a sweetie). Mom came running over and said "oh thank god! I've been chasing him for 20 minutes!".

Today is now the 3rd time that I've seen this puppy roaming around the area. I was just alerted by Max that there was something in my front yard. I ran outside to get him but he was already gone. I searched the area but can only hope that he ran back to his unfenced backyard. The dog is not wearing a collar. There is nobody from his family outside (unless in the backyard).

I'm not sure if this is a rant thread or advice thread. I'm a bit upset. I cannot watch this dog runaway or get hurt knowing I should have done something.

That is a tough call. Do you feel like you could talk to the Mom in the family, maybe just be walking Max and Cooper when you know they are outside. Stop and mention that her little guy has been in your yard a few times and it really worries you that he could get run over by a car. Maybe even refer her here to YT because it sounds like they don't have a clue to the danger they are putting their little one in.

She is well aware that her dog is running all around everyone's property. I've expressed my concern already once before. I don't think their English is very good so it's difficult to communicate with her. To be honest with you, I don't believe they care. That's the main issue.

Don't you have a leash law in your state? You could always call animal control, they are suppose to keep the information confidential.

Thanks for the advice but I don't feel comfortable calling animal control. There is one shelter in the area and it's a kill shelter. I can't imagine calling them and saying there's a loose Yorkie in the yard. I've had an awful experience with animal control in the past where they have laughed at my situation (completely separate incident).

Oh my...this is very sad and I do am scared for the sweet baby. It really ticks me off there is soooo many irresponsible pet owners out there, they don't deserve to be honored with a dog!
Sorry, I don't have any advice but I sure feel for the little guy. :(

How frustrating! You said they are renters. Can you call the owners? Maybe if the landlord says something they will change their habits and keep the dog safe. Or maybe try talking to her again. If she sees how worried you are, maybe she will understand that this is dangerous for her dog.

That is awful. I have no good advice, but wanted to let you know I understand your frustration. That would drive me crazy. Poor sweet Yorkie baby with irresponsible owners. :mad:

I understand, I wouldn't want this baby to end up in a shelter. I just hope nothing happens to her. It is a shame some people don't take care of their pets.

I agree maybe you should just adopt it. ;). I know that's probably not possible but a solution

:eek: You obviously haven't seen me attempting to walk 2 dogs at once, let alone 3!

When I see her outside I'll have to let her know I saw her dog roaming my yard once again.

Ha ha it can be done. I purchased a coupler and can walk two on one leash and then I have a free hand for another. It works okay. I sure hope nothing happens to this little one.

Cooper, Max and I are on the lookout. If anyone sees him outside, I think we may be able to catch him before anything happens.

That is a shame you don't have an AC that will help in situations like this. I have neighbors who kept letting their yorkie and rat terrier out. I called AC a few times...and now the pups are no longer running loose! My guess is they had to pay fines.

I really don't know what to tell you. Situations like this are extremely frustrating.

You are living my life with the two chihuahuas across the street. I finally just called code inforsment. I had come close to hitting the dogs more than once,because they were in the street. Had been putting them back in their not well fenced in backyard,3 or 4 times a week. Then the lady tells our police officer that I am bothering her. Code guy tried to explain it to her,she cussed him out in two languages. He found them roaming and wrote her 2 tickets,one for each for about $200 per. Havent seen the little guys in months. I did hear one of them barking in their yard about 4am this morning.
