| Good ear cleaner for smelly ears? Chelsea's ears stink. Every time I take her in to the vet for something, I always have them check her ears for a yeast infection, mites, etc., anything that might be causing the smell. They've never found anything wrong and always say her ears look clean, so I'm always told to just use a good strong cleaner on her ears. I've tried several but none that work on that smell. None of my other babies have smelly ears, just Chelsea. Any ideas?

| Hope this helps! I have a Fourche Terrier (yorkie/westie hybrid) and her ears started stinking a couple of months ago, we took her to the vet & his only idea of what could be causing the smell is allergies. He said she probably had food allergies and suggested we find a dog food with only 1 or 2 ingredients, rather than something like Beneful (which is what we were using). Tractor Supply is a great place to find this food, it's a little pricey, but Gabby's ears cleared up in no time (they were also slightly red & itched). |

| Which ones have you tried? My favorite was Chlorhexiderm, but the company is less than stellar. EpiOtic should work well. I hate the smell. NolvaClens may also work. Some here use Vet Solutions. Ellie's ears smell weird too. I've come to like it though. lol. The cleaners probably don't work because it's just covering up the smell. I don't think you'll find one that does. I wonder if there is a small amount of yeast in there that they just can't see. Ellie almost always has a little bit. I've heard that a very small amount of yeast in the ears can be normal (but not on the skin). Have they ever swabbed and looked at it under the microscope? You might get their okay to try something like Zymox for a week or two and see how it works.

| She sounds a lot like Rory! We use Vet Solutions weekly during her bath. She actually likes having it squirt into her ears even before the massage and shake part. Little weirdo!

| I use Coconut Oil. It's naturally antifungal, antibacterial, antiparasitic, and antiviral. Great for skin, coat, ears, and teeth. Great as a supplement with meals too.

| I just bought happy tails ear cleaner set. It comes with wipes to clean the ear with and ear drops that are supposed to deodorize and prevent ear infections. It smells pretty good too but Callie doesn't have stinky ears so I'm not really sure how well it works for that but its supposed to. A gentle, all-natural two part program that cleans and deodorize your dog?s ears.

I wonder if I'm cleaning her ears correctly? Do you swab the ears out or just put the drops in and massage? I usually swab just a little ways into the ear and then wipe off the outer flap.

As long as they smelled clean and healthy I'd be happy.

I put enough in an ear so when I massage the ear canal I can hear it gooshing around. Then, let them shake out any excess and wipe the ear flap off. Then about every 2 or 3 days I apply 3-5 drops per ear for 1 week. Problems are usually cleared up by then. If not, I continue for another week and then go to once a week. I buy mine here: Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil - Certified Organic from Tropical Traditions And a thread about it: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...conut-oil.html

I also us Vet Solutions and occasionally ear drops from the vet when she gets ahold of something she shouldn't have or stays outside too long (which also triggers her allergies). |

| I think Biogroom is one brand I haven't tried. I'm pretty sure the little pet/ag supply store I go to carries Biogroom products, and I'm going to stop in there on my way home and get something else to try so I'll see if they carry it. Thank you!
