| confession Okay I think its best I come clean on here with regards to Gizmo. I was at my husbands local mall when I saw that there was a puppy store. I did not want to go in knowing where those puppies come from. However I had to go in, i had to see for myself so I could either report them to the humane society and I don't know maybe to settle my own uncertainty with pet stores in general. What I saw didn't surprise me, all the dogs were locked in 3 x 3 cages. Some had multiple dogs in one cage while the bigger ones were by themselves. No toys just a water bottle. I didn't think I could take it anymore until I saw these big bat ears and brown eyes staring at me. I said to my husband "get him out now!" So, we took this little boy yorkie out whose fur was sticky, he needed a bath and a brush, and had a runny nose and was sneezing. He cuddled up right to me and when my then fiance now husband bent down he bit his goatee and almost tried to jump into my husbands arms. I told my husband that all dogs deserved a home and I couldn't live with myself knowing this little boy was locked away in a pen laying sometimes in his own poop. We took him home and now he's our puppy. I've had full medical tests done to him to see how much damage the stupid let store has done and everything has come back and he had a respiratory infection that we treated with antibiotics. However I will never condone that puppy store or their actions. But I could not leave my furbaby there. I know that ill get judged for where I got him but I had to get it off my chest especially if there are those out there like me that let their heart speak first before their brain. Trying to convince my husband to let me get another furbaby so we are searching for a local good breeder or shelter.

| For what is worth I am glad you saved him, also glad you took him to the vet asap! The only thing about buying from puppy stores is you are supporting BYB's, but I understand where you are coming from- At least you saved him!

| It is sad that those poor babies are sold like that. they do tear at your heart. I cannot go into pet stores, or I would want to buy them all. |

| Me too. I would want to take them all. Every time I go to our humane society I bring something home. I just can't stand it. My heart would have told me to do the very same thing. I am so glad you took him to the vet for proper care.

| My husband and I decided that it was either a honeymoon or possible vet bills. Granted he came back good he has become our world.

Aww, how sweet that your husband was in agreement with you. Your little one will make a wonderful furbaby.

| Now why would you think we'd be mean to you? We would all do the same thing. I cannot go in pet stores for that reason. My heart is too soft. I'm glad you have Gizmo and he has your love and care.

| I think I know the store you are talking about. Very hard lace to walk into. Everytime I've held a dog there though, they haven't been sick (so can't really report or anything). There was a Yorkie in there a couple months ago that seemed quite old (for a puppy store). He had been there awhile. Love him. It's hard to watch and I'm always tempted to do what you did. But because you just can't leave a Yorkie from there after you hold it (understandable), I'd just avoid the place. They just don't need anymore money.

| There's a pet store in my local mall. I've been in it once. Now, I literally walk on the opposite side of the isle whenever we get close to the pet store when we are at the mall, but you can still hear the lil whines & barks...it's horrible. I can definately understand you not wanting to leave him there. I'm glad to hear he's healthy. He's lucky to have a warm loving family who take good care of him .

| That is exactly why I cannot walk into pet stores that sell puppies. I want to buy them all or break them out of their little doggie jails and set them all free. I refuse to give them my money or business, but I would never be able to resist a sad little Yorkie face. I am glad that Gizmo got a clean bill of health - you're lucky!

| Our first dog Brody came from a pet store... pretty much the same situation. I fell for the whole "We get our dogs from "family friends" in Missouri" type thing. That was 12 years ago though and I've learned SO much since then. I know how they pull at your heart strings. I'd never do it again because then I'd be contributing to the problem and their business. He had a few issues. He came with kennel cough. When he was 7 he had bladder stones removed and finally when he was 10 we had to put him to sleep because he had advanced kidney failure. It was the saddest day of my life....I still miss him to this day... Anyways, you live and learn. I'm so glad for you that he's healthy! Thank god he ended up in good hands with a family to love him It could've been so much worse so good for you. Sounds like you've learned to buy from a reputable breeder. There's two YTCA members that I've talked to at the dog show that seem good. One in Macomb Twp and one in Roseville. Check YTCA.org of course there's always petfinder.com if you're interested in a rescue. Good luck with Gizmo!

| I dont know where there is a petstore that sells dogs or cats in my area and I would like for it to stay that way. The area PetSmarts do have 4paws rescue/adoption in their stores. |

| I'm in tears reading of that little desperate dog's attempts to cuddle with you and playbite your fiance's beard to try to win your favor so he could get some simple human interaction and love, sick and scared though he was. I could not in all good conscience have put that sick baby back in that cage, turned my back on him and walked out that door, no matter how much my buying him contributed to their operation. I would still be hearing that poor little dog's sneezes in my conscience and seeing his runny little nose in my mind's eye had I left him there. You did the only thing a compassionate dog lover could have done - you saved a dog that touched your heart. And that is all we can do sometimes - save the one before us.

| I got my two at a petstore also and I don't regret it, but I can't recommend that anyone go this route. They count on you to feel sorry for that doggie in the window. They just want to empty the cage to fill it again and again and again. I bought my third from a breeder as I could not repeat my earlier mistakes but I love all three equally.

| Oh bless your heart. I can totally understand how hard that was. He was meant to be with you. Give the little sweetie a big hug from me.
