| Another's Devil's Advocate: what groomer takes a female in heat? My groomer will point you to the door...but then again who takes their female in heat out at all? I'm done wondering about this thread: if someone is pro-life, be pro-life for the pregnant female IMHO and either or hope she is taken to a vet...immediately.

| There are so many things wrong with this I won't even list them. I just hope this poor little girl survives and it would be nice if the puppies did too, no matter who sired them.

| hoping i don't sound too ignorant, but there really is no way to know if a dog is pregnant without an x-ray?

| Well I appreciate everyone who has voiced there opinion on this matter. I have hired a breeder that is experience who came to see Lucy 2 weeks ago. She stated that it could be a false pregnancie but then we felt movement in the past week. Im not sure why the vet did not want to do the xray, but for some reason it was the vet that discouraged me from doing it and said to let it run its natural course. As for the groomers, I did tell them that she had been in heat for a couple of weeks and they assured me that she had a play area of her own and showed it to me, not to worry about her staying. So as professionals that they are I figured they deal with this and know what they are doing. As for why I dont post on this site until now, I see alot of rude and mean comments so there for I dont feel like sharing, I have my Lucy on my facebook and get more support from people there. But thank you for your concern. I do have a vet on standby and a breeder that is going to help me thru this, still verry hard for me as it is the worst time for me and for her. |

don't be ashamed.. your heart was in the right place and that is what is most important. It was just pointed out why we don't offer funds or member start soliciting funds. You were helping...

| thank you! I have an appointment at my daughters vet today at 4 to get the xray, I need to know what to expect and the breeder that is helping me stopped by and reassured me that they feel confident that all will be ok. I guess it is normal to feel the babies up by the rib cage and I was concerned that they was to high. After talking to Dr. Bowers nurse, I am no longer crying and feel like all will be ok. The vet that I orriginally went to was not verry informative and acted like I was crazy when I mentioned the xray. This vet highly recommends the xray and also feels like it is important. i have watched several utube yorkies that all seem to handle birthing well and the breeder who has been stoppin by to see us has been doing this for 9 years. they are not yorkie breeders but know what signs to watch for if there is trouble and with the last litre they delivered one of the blue nose pit bull puppies was not breathing and her husband gave mouth to mouth and resucitated the pup and it is alive and doing well. that was a delivery of 13 pups and took all night and into the day. so I do feel like they are compassionate and caring dog lovers that will help me thru this with Lucy. |

However, since they are not personally experienced with small breed dogs, you may want to make sure you do lots of reading and research here about specifically whelping small dogs or have the breeder do some research on it. I hear breeding larger dogs is much different than our little babies. Just a thought! Please keep us posted and I will pray for a safe delivery.

This isn't about who is at fault, but the groomer is responsible for everything that happens to your pet while in their care. The groomer/salon is most definitely at fault for allowing the dog to be put with a male while in heat. She was told first.. However, the most one is going to get is an "I'm sorry"... I am not sure I would take my dogs to a groomer that put all the dogs together. they shouldn't be, unless it is a doggy daycare.. And anything can happen to any breed when whelping. There really is nothing so different for yorkies. All puppies can crash, all moms may not be able to whelp easily either, Not just yorkies.. It sounds like you are doing a great job so far with such a surprise. You have been doing lots of research and that is great. The whelper helpers you have coming is good, it doesn't matter if they are yorkie breeders or not. Just having them there will calm you, and it's better then nobody at all ![]() I hope you will come back and update us after the puppies are born.

Remember this is a public forum. As such, every member here has a right to post whether you agree with what they are saying or not. Only the mods/admin can tell someone not to post. As for the groomer being at fault, I will continue to have to beg to differ with you. Any owner who has an intact male or female is ultimately responsible for the dog's reproductive life. It's an easy fix, if you don't want to breed (responsibly) then spay/neuter. If you do plan on breeding, then you don't take that dog any where that an unplanned breeding can occur. There is no such thing as an "accident", there is only failure to plan properly. Ultimately, it was the owner's decision to leave the dog while she was in heat with someone else. I don't think it's reasonable to assume that someone else will watch the dog as closely as you do.
