Help! my Lucy is pregnant Good morning and I hope and pray that maybe there is someone out there that could lend a little support my way. Took Lucy to the groomers on Jan 29 and let them know that she had been in heat since around the first part of Jan., so I wasnt so sure if she was ok to be with other dogs yet or not. They assured me that she would be in a play area of her own or with neutered dogs so there wouldnt be an issue. It was a busy day that day and since it was Lucy's first time at a real groomers they ask me to leave her for the day. needless to say we are expecting puppies now and with alot of research the groomer has decided that the father is a chihuahua! Im scared, we cant afford a huge vet bill and my biggest concern was we didnt even discover this until 4 weeks ago when an elderly woman came in my office and told me she was expecting! I went to the vet and they confirmed that she had all the signs but ws too early for a xray. Decided against xray as it is 100.00 and they say it is not really good for them to have. Lucy is not verry big, she has gained some weight and is verry lazy now but other than that she is not bulging, is this normal? She has been verry tired, wont eat her eggs in the morning but wants meat all the time. please help with any advise, My Lucy is my whole world, Ive had her since she was 4 months old and I love her dearly. she will be 3 in August. this is the first time for this to happen was thinking about breeding this summer wanted to get more educated, did not expect Chorkies! Im so disapointed this has happened to her! |
 Did'nt you post this same story a few weeks back!!!!???? |
here's more info on the original issue: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...-pregnant.html |
yes, the other thread was three weeks ago...and here were the possible fathers... Well, i dont want to do more harm and personally i am against abortion, but I am worriede about her, she is 5 pounds now and only 2and a half, the groomer assured me that it would be fine that no other dog would be near her, and now this, and all they can tell me is it may be a yorkie, maltese, schitu or pomeranian! so glad we now know that it's the chi that will have to pay child support...:clown29: |
I suggest you read some of the stickies in the breeding section and gather supplies needed for the birth. You should try and find an experienced breeder in your area who is willing to help when the time comes, it's better to have someone there who knows what they are doing rather then going into this with your eyes closed. Also try and research breeding yorkies as much as you can and keep your vet on speed dial. Oh and dont use that groomer again! good luck and I pray everything goes well. |
Here is what the OP posted on her profile yesterday "today is day 58 since my Lucy went to the yuppy puppy to be groomed and now is due to have puppies! im scared for her and for the puppies as I am not experienced and had no intention of this happenning at this time. The groomer apologized but has offered no financial assistance and I dont want nothing else to do with them. Lucy now weighs 7lbs 2 oz but her belly isnt huge, just firm, not sure what to expect. The worst of this is the groomer did verify that the father is a chihuahua!" She has previously stated that Lucy was 5 pounds. This makes 2 pounds 2 oz of weight gain at 58 days. I am not a breeder and have no experience with puppies. Is this typical or does this sound like major problems for Lucy? |
I'm sorry this has happened to your baby, but I don't see it being your groomers fault...its not your groomers responsibility to keep YOUR dog from getting pregnant...you should have never took her to the groomers while she was in heat...it is your responsibility to keep her away from any and all dogs during her heat cycle. Hope you find someone that can help with the whelp. Good Luck! |
Since you are now on day 59, you've got about 4 days to learn everything. A $100 investment in an xray is not that much to spend to verify that the pups are not too large for her to deliver and also tell you how many to expect. The amount of radiation in a single shot is minuscule. You need to be prepared to spend a lot more than $100 in the event she needs a c-section or has other complications. Do you have a credit card with nothing on it that you can use in an emergency? You might also want to consider applying for Care Credit at the vet's office. You now say it was a Chi that is the potential father, but the other day you listed several other breeds. Unless your groomer saw the tie, how is she suddenly so sure? And if she did witness it, why didn't she tell you? Start looking through the stickies in the breeding section and googling whelping on youtube. You need to be prepared to tear the sacs and cut the umbilical cords. You will also need to familiarize yourself with signs of potential complications such as a stuck pup and eclampsia. |

Oh boy what can I say:angry: |
I agree you should never have taken Lucy to be groomed while she was in heat. The people I bought my Lilly from had a terrible pregnancy, Lillys mother almost died because she weighted only 5.5 lbs and had 4 pups. You really need to invest in a X-ray and find out just how many babies Lilly will have, it may save her life! |

I think you need to bite the bullet and get her to the vet immediately for an x-ray. You absolutely NEED to know thier size at this time. just because it is a chi does not mean they will be able to be free whelped. I helped deliver 6 chi's for my sister in laws chi. the dad was a chi as well. let me tell you, those chi's had much bigger heads than any of the yorkie babies I have delivered. I would be very worried in your case. Please get the xray. |

I would think that if she is pregnant that the groomers would be willing to help with any vet bills. |
Take your dog to a vet... |
