| ![]() I'm sorry, but I don't agree !! No dog should be let to kill a cat or other animal! I don't think you all would be so agreeable if your Yorkie was killed by another dog?would you?? When I got my Yorkie he was a Nasty Cat attacking dog, he has now been taught that he is lower on the pecking order than the cat, and he cowers to her, he is not allowed to chase cats, or squirrels or whatever when he is out on walks or just outside. I do not want a killer in my house/yard/or neighborhood---- Killing your neighbors cat even if it was in your yard is wrong!! If he just chased it out of the yard that is fine, but not going to the lengths of KILLING! I bet your Neighbors aren't to fond of you!! |

| ![]() I just remember the hurt and anger I STILL feel 6 years after losing my cat Maggie to a dog attack. She was outside in HER own yard and two GSDs from down (way down) the road went on a cat-killing spree. My neighbor lost a couple kitties, as well due to these dogs. My point is, no matter if what, if you lose a beloved pet due to a dog attack, even if it is on someone else's property, it still hurts like HELL, and making light of the death is not right! JMHO! ![]() |

I'm sorry about your cat. I know that some people develop just as strong a bond with their cats as they do with a dog. Cats are a different type of animal that serves a different purpose in nature. They have just as much of an ability to bond with a human as any dog does. | |

| ![]() hi all, My yorkie was indeed oversize at around 12lbs, beautiful long black coat, the joker of the family and my young nieces' best friend.......when it came to cats it was another ball game altogether, he killed two strays unfortunate enough to be in our garden eating the scraps of dried food he left and i actually took a third cat out of his jaws. My belief i that many a terrier hunts cats yet cats underestimate the yorkie's speed due to the long coat. |

| ![]() I realize this is an old thread, but I feel I need to respond. I do fully understand the despair and anger of those upset that the yorkie killed the cat. I also fully agree that if that cat was not in the yorkies yard, it would not have died. As many of you know, my next door neighbor is a cat hoarder and many of her cats come into my unfenced yard. My own dog, on the other hand, is not allowed in the yard. Every one of her cats outweighs my dog (except the neverending stream of kittens). She has also threatened that if my dog ever gets into her yard, I will never see him again. My dog is a prisoner in his own home while her cats run free in my yard, walk on my car, get into my basement if the door is open, and once one was trapped in our basement for days when we didn't know it & it ruined our basement furniture with pee. I grew up with cats, not dogs, so I am very torn on this subject. I like cats, and I love my dog. I believe that people should control their pets-cats, dogs, rabbits, hamsters, horses, etc. If the animals are out of control, ie: in someone else's yard, the owners should not be upset when bad things happen to them. Period. A terrier is a terrier and will do terrier things, like kill cats that come into their yards (or, as shown in another thread, chase away baby bears that come into their homes and go for the food bowl... ![]()

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | ![]() It is good to bring up these subjects every now and again. Luckily Razzle has never caught anything that had the temerity to come into our backyard, but I have no doubt he could and would kill, a squirrel or a bird. Certainly chase the cat, although I don't know if he would kill a cat.... Just because he grew up with a cat in our house. And I would be very anxious if he got into a fight with a cat. THeir claws are and can be very destructive.

Jackson has insane prey drive when it comes to bunnies, squirrels, etc. He's been hunting/stalking a bunny for days over at my dads house. It's living under our pool shed, and the other day he literally spent 3 hours standing around STARING at the pool deck, and he would change positions every so often. He stalks and walks quietly. He and my dads JRT mix would each take a side and cover each other, it was hilarious. They finally got it to come out and I watched the poor rabbit run like 10 laps around the yard- Jackson was RIGHT on its tail, and he was shrieking with excitement, he almost got it but it got out of the fence. In one way I was really sad, because I feel bad for the bunny, lol, but I was also laughing, it's kind of cool to see the dogs doing what they were bred to do and funny to see the dogs working together. Though I'd prefer him NOT to be eating a bunny or anything, so I'm kind of glad he did not catch it. But damn he came close. He killed a bird once that was trapped in our porch, and in one way I was horrified and in another, I was proud of my little terrier. Bottom line is that bunny is going to be killed one way or another, whether it's by a bird of prey, or something else, and it's unfortunate, but it's just the way of life. If a cat is left to wander, and is in your dogs yard, it's not your fault. If people want to be sure their cats are not attacked or are safe, they should be kept indoors. My grandma had a cat attacked & killed by a neighbors German Shepherd, the cat was indoor but somehow got out (door was left open) and it was a horrible horrible thing. I was very little and remember the neighbor carrying the cat over, dead, she was crying. But my grandma understood it was her own fault, her cat got loose and went into the GSD's yard.

So moral of the story if a stray animal comes on to your property the best thing is not always to return it to the place it came from. you know what really makes me upset for you Marilyn is that even if you put up a fence it would not protect you from the cat getting in since they could climb it if they want, I really don't know how you put up with it, I would be all over this that the neighbor would be afraid of me, but LOL I guess that's the NY in me, LOL do you want me to come for a visit ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

| ![]() can one be held accountable for poisend food left out in a backyard. Ok I am just kidding, but it makes me wonder. If I owned a pet that wandered and annoyed neighbors I would be afraid that someone would be ticked off enough to something like that. one time there was a dog running loose and it kept leaving big piles on my lawn which my dogs would of course have to find and sniff and it attracted other dogs, it was also mushy and did not clean up well. I found out where it was coming from and left notes in the persons mailbox it was on the street behind mine and I did not know these people since there was strand of woods between the houses. The note did not work, what finally worked was me bringing the crap back home to their front door and their barbeque grill.

| ![]() my last yorkie Kirby almost killed my sister's bird. Kirby used to sit under it's cage just waiting and watching and one day someone let it out and it was sitting on the top of the cage, supposedly the wings were clipped and they did not think it could fly but it got spooked and flew off the cage onto the floor and Kirby was on top of it in a second. Luckily my BIL was close by and he was able to scare Kirby off the bird, but if alone that poor bird would have been a gonner.
