Jackson's best friends are 4lb and 6lb yorkies and they are treated just as Jackson is and get to do all sorts of dog things. I just think the general public think that just because a dog is tiny they require no amount of exercise or are allowed to be a dog and I think that tiny dogs can be dangerous in the hands of people who don't know what they are doing -that's what scares ME about the tinies! Not everyone who gets them are as good Yorkie parents as us here on YT!




^ This. Everywhere I go, I encounter the 'THAT'S a Yorkie?!" type comments. I don't care, it doesn't bother me. I just say 'Oh, I prefer his size and wouldn't want a tiny one". That usually shuts the haters up but no honestly, most people that meet Jackson say they actually prefer his size too so luckily we don't run into alot of 'haters'. And honestly 16lbs is still a SMALL dog.

I have never heard you say anything bad about a small dog.. I agree 1000% the most important thing is to have a healthy dog. But.. I wanted a small dog (yelp I said it) I wanted a 4 - 5 lb dog. I have a 25 lb shih tuz who I LOVE.. but I thought he was going to be "standard" at about 10 to 12 lbs. Would I get ride of him? no.. do I see people's faces when I say he is a shih tuz? .. yes. I think I am saying the same as you.. but I don't want to be put down because I wanted a small dog - not that YOU would but SOME would.

Exactly! Totally agree. I can totally see why some would want a 4-5lb dog. Don't get me wrong, certain things would be a bit better. Clothing options are never as good for a 16lb boy, lol, things are a lot cheaper for a smaller dog... I'm thinking about buying a Buddy Belt harness and it's like $80 since he's a size 6. It'd be like, half that if he were smaller, LOL!! Things like that sometimes make me want a smaller dog. I can def. see the convenience.

People are always going to have issues, it's crazy to me. I really love German Shepherds and will have one again someday. There are a lot of breeders who are breeding for these MASSIVE Monster dogs!! That is not what a GSD is supposed to be... they are NOT Great Danes. Yet you will see some GSD people be like "Oh yeah mine is 150lbs!!" so it happens in a lot of breeds. Pit Bulls too... they are not supposed to be a huge breed, if you see a true Pit Bull, they are pretty small but very muscular... so many people are breeding for these monster pitties, it's so sad what humans will do to dogs.

I agree with Chachi that it comes across as very cavalier and flippant about a situation that has the potential to become very serious. Perhaps that is not how the poster meant it; but that is how it came across to me when I read it.

That's another problem with the internet and trying to find the meaning behind the written word

I don't know the post that it came from. I am just talking about making an opinion about a word someone uses. I've seen it before and it really scares people away.

I have made the mistake saying I like having a tiny, and have been ripped to shreds! Many people here have small yorkies but don't post because they will be put down by so many. Everyone should be able to post without being told there is something wrong with them for wanting a smaller yorkie.

I agree. I personally don't feel it is appropriate to criticize someone's linguistics or use of slang, especially on a forum with international members from all walks of life.

That's within standard weight for a Yorkie...so, it's not like you wanted a micro-mini

This site is supposed to be educational. There is a common belief that unless you are a shower, or a breeder of champions, and god forbid you had an accidental pregnancy....you will be 'booed off the stage" if you will, if you are new.

Several times over the last few weeks, I've seen newbies come & go because they had a question about something you all deemed controversial, & attacked them. Granted, if we feel that the newbie needs to get their dog to the vet ASAP, things can get heated, but that's an emergency, & urgency is needed.

However, when someone has a gestation or pregnancy question, instead of jumping on the bandwagon as some of us do, how about answering the question? Linking some good "dangerous" threads, things that can or will go wrong, etc.?

They will figure out the rest for themselves if they hang around & read. If you scare them off their first day, we have not educated them, & they actually leave us uneducated, & with a feeling that we are just nutz over here. I'm sorry, but I have seen a few members who seem to thrive on starting controversy in threads. They have tons of posts, so I'm aware that they are probably valued members here and I am sorry if I have offended anyone.

I just feel new folks should get helped before torn up into shreds.

This has been brought up time after time. they just don't get it. the fact that "they" have seen a zillion other posts just like it, should not matter. this one particular person has not seen or written those zillion other posts. Each one is an individual and should not be punished for what a zillion other people have done.

Bullying is not going to make them change their minds about breeding, it is only going to put the dog in jeopardy. And if the dog is already pregnant, it is too late to tell them that they made a mistake.

The funny part is, "those who are criticizing are about as receptive to "constructive criticism" as those whom they are criticizing.

Honestly people. If you don't like the way someone responds to others, use the "ignore" feature. Sitting here preaching about how others should or shouldn't respond isn't going to change anyone's mind. It's funny how the ones who go off on how judgmental everyone else is don't seem to realize that they are doing the very same thing.

It's the internet. People deal with things in different ways. When someone posts on an open forum, they are going to get responses that run the gamut. As the saying goes "Put your big girl panties on and deal with it."

I have a small yorkie and post all the time; don't think twice about it.

Of course, since she's gained almost 2 pounds since we moved here; and the vet now tells me she is overweight - not sure I can talk about having a tiny anymore.

Where did I say they were irresponsible? I said they dont seem to be taking breeding as serious as they should and they arent.

I was thinking that just after I made my last post... I have wondered into the breeder area and I just get so lost.. I do think the passions are higher ..but they should be if it is a good breader!!!!

If a member leaves because their hand is not patted and someone tells them it is ok you did not take your dog to a vet, or you 6 month old is having a litter, or...... then they really did not want advice they wanted confermation that they did not do wrong!!

YTCA is the breed club Yorkshire Terrier Club of America that has set the "standard...no I don't think standards are a joke per say or didn't realize that you said a healthy just undersized dog...I completely respect the hard work may breeder of standards put into "improving" the breed...by that they have a strict guideline they attempt to follow and put an incredible amount of effort into it...

I just really dislike the YTCA because they omit healthy beautiful dogs with naturally occurring "faults" in color and that's the only issue with them and I feel that's just ludicrous when something naturally occurs in a breed you don't just leave it out IMO I mean I also have a white miniature schnauzer whom is accepted by the German breed club of origin as a black miniature schnauzer without pigment yet in America they are not recognized...I just think its silly to have Biewers, Partis, Golden, and then the list of standards...all in separate breed clubs yet they can all occur in the same litters!
I think they are all simply color variations of the same breed and the breed club should reflect that in their stance. Tus not multiclubs just a correction in the YTCA's inclusions...the AKC already recognizes them but it excludes these "fault" colored dogs from AKC shows thus they have their own in multiple varying "clubs"

In all honestly I was being crass as this thread has to do with breeding and the most obnoxious response to get from many breeders of standard Yorkies is that it's irresponsible or bad breeding for those who breed "fault" colors-it's a serious verbal slap in the face to the "fault" color breeders who put in just as much effort and just as much if not more work in "preserving" and "improving" their breed via their breeding programs...so I like to return the favor...quite often...a balancing of the scales I like to think myself.

As far as teacups, yes I know I was also just being crass but in many respect. Recently we have seen the creation for the "teacup" or downsized miniature schnauzers it's ridiculous...we're dealing in already very downsized breeds in the "toy" category...now if you have a runt you have a runt...but wow there's a whole lot of runts out there...just sayin' it seems unbalanced...

I just wanted to answer your questions here. But beyond that silliness (which is actually very serious for so many it's rude to call it silly) the point is that yes passions run high for many reasons...but when it comes to the care, treatment, and responsibility of animal husbandry....especially in breeding...WOW...some ppl need a good slap to wake up...just sayin' please no one go slap someone and then say it was me who told you too,
No one forces anyone to have an animal period, be responsible for the choices you make to get one....and educate yourself before you're in a position of mediocrity.
