| How old was your male when you neutered him and any behavior changes?? Hi everyone!!!! Reesie just turned 4 months (18 weeks tomorrow) and we are waiting until he is about 6 months to neuter him with the hopes that he looses some teeth by then. He has already reached 5lbs (yay!!) and is a miniature version of the TASMANIAN DEVIL!! LOL...!!!!! I love my little lightning bolt, but wow-he wears me OUT!! He does not mark yet (whew) but we have seen his LIPSTICK 2 times now, I know that won't change after the neuter!!! Will his behavior change after his neuter?? Will he calm down and perhaps be in more control of his bladder/potty???? He goes pee about every 2 hours right now. Thanks!! Wow, having a puppy brings about SOOOO many questions!! Viv

No Longer a Member | Rizzo still pees about every 2 hours, though sometimes he'll go as long as 4 before needing to go out. Riz never marked before or after (cross fingers) and I waited until he was almost 10 months old to have him neutered (he still squats like a girl, lol) The only time I've ever seen his "lipstick" was the day after surgery, and I haven't seen it since. I think it all depends on the dog, and Rizzo is pretty laid back when it comes to masculine behaviors...he's a great pup Personality wise...I can't think of anything that changed, he seems a little more brave than he used to, but he is still a huge wimp. |

| Chachi was neutered at 7 months. He didnt calm down untill 1 1/2. It did make him stop trying to run out the door everytime it happened to be open. He was potty trained at that time so it didnt affect his potty habits.

| Lollll yes, I have heard that some calm down after their neuter a little and then fully calm down at about 18 months. Snick was always a calmer pup, so this is all new to me. Wow--what a difference!!! But I actually don't mind if Reesie doesn't calm down, he keep the house LIVELY!!! Also, Snick is getting so much more exercise with Reesie running all over the place. Viv

Vivian, I wouldn't neuter too early. Teddy was neutered at 7 months, and Max was 6 months. I wish I had waited just a little bit longer with Max. I believe it is better to let them develop physically as much as possible before neutering.

| Rocco was neutered at 6months, he is now 81/2 months. Believe it or not I have never seen his lipstick! He is as energetic now as he was before being neutered. I dont have any problems with marking, thank goodness. he does go on his pee pad and he ALWAYS lifts his leg NEVER squats but he does have good aim, again thank goodness!!!

| Kristin...I keep reading contradictory infomarion. I've read to neuter between 4-6 months to prevent marking and other not so fun behaviors. I've also read to wait until 18 months to neuter to allow full development. Confusion!! I was going to go with the norm and prob do it at 6 months. My vet said as soon as he hits 4 months I should think about it, but I am always figuring things out for my boys on my own. ????? Viv

| mickey was 9 months old when we neutered him. we were waiting for his baby teeth so we could get it all done at the same time while he was down. if i remember correctly, his behaviour didn't change except of course his urge to hump anything he could. |

| Jackson was 7 months old when neutered.... I remember he had lifted his leg a few weeks prior to the neuter on my dads carpeted screened in porch furniture, so I went uh-oh!! Then I scheduled the neuter. He's never ever marked indoors (except once at Petsmart) since so I dunno if the neuter had anything to do with that, or if he just thought the porch was part of outside. He did hump a lot (stuffed animals) before the neuter and that pretty much stopped, though he still has a favorite teddy bear, LOL!! I let him occasionally, I don't see harm in it. I have not seen his "lipstick" since before the neuter. And not gonna lie, it really grossed me out... he was standing up and it was like touching the ground *gag* I wouldn't say Jackson's ever been "hyper"... he's not what I'd have considered a hyper pup but he has certainly always been really active. If that makes any sense at all, he's not hyper but active. I don't think neutering really calmed him down. He will be 3 in October of this year and is still just as active as he was at 10 weeks old. He's not the kind of dog that is okay with staying in the house for more than like one day. He needs at LEAST an hour long walk per day and if we don't get a walk, he needs a 1-2 hour dog park trip, playing fetch at home with his Kong balls, and doing mental/trick training every night.

YT 2000 Club Member | we had Tucker neutered at 4 months old. He was marking before then but never in the house. He still marks, but again it has never been in the house. It didnt change his behavior either, he did start calming down when he reached the 2 year mark but he is still crazy lol..Never has seen his lipstick and he does still hump my toy poodle on occasion...

| I'm at a lost to when the best time to neuter as well. We are heading to Disneyland next week and have to board Charlie at the vets (which they all love him there and he gets the royal treatment there) I decided to have him fixed while we are gone and he is at the vets. He will be 5 months this week. My only worry is he is so small and having him put under but the vet doesn't seem worried. |

| Oh wow....I don't think I could ever have my dog have a major procedure with myself being out of town, anything could happen. Also, I would want to make sure I was there as soon as I could to take him home and help him feel comfortable back in his own environment. I am going to be a wreck anyway with Reesie having to go under for his neuter, I will be the mom calling every hour asking for updates and if I can come pick him up early!!!! Not looking forward to it....but need to start thinking about it. -Viv

I think I would be prepared for neutering at 6 months, but I would push it a few weeks more if possible.
