| Louie was 6 months when we had him neutered along with 4 baby teeth that had to be extracted. Previous to his neuter, he did hump A LOT. He'd drag this huge stuffed bunny about 5x's the size of him outside on the patio and have his way with him LOL I'm not kidding, he'd take it anywhere! After neutering, he still did it a lot but he only has his favorite stuffed puppy. Our trainer always laughed because even at 5 months he'd turn it around the "anatomically correct" way and "do his thing". Also, the same day he was back he was back at it so we had to hide all of his "girlfriends" in the laundry room and he'd cry at the door. Even though he had laser surgery I didn't want him to potentially hurt the area. I do think laser surgery makes for less down time though. For potty training, he never marked but we watched him like a hawk...picked up on the signs that he may go, etc. I don't work so I'd say he was trained by 7 months. I don't think it had anything to do with neutering necessarily. Just consistency and a lot of treats As far as behavioral changes, he's exactly the same. He's calmed down a little but as you said Viv, he's a little devil We got him from Brenda as well and we all joke around with what went on in that yorkie room?? ...a whole lotta love! LOL Good luck!

| Remy is 2.5 and is not yet neutered. We have no marking (indoors) and absolutely no aggressiveness. And I have no intention of finding him a "mate" There is no specific reason why we have not neutered him, its actually a combination of things: he was a slow grower, had some illnesses when he was young, and is one of the most timid dogs you will find (even with the equipment). For all those reasons put together we figured he needed his testosterone as long as possible . We live in a condo in the city and he is at work with us all day. There is no way he is going to improperly find a female, there are not any to "find". We are likely getting him neutered in this year, because he is now filled out and clearly an "adult" but I am also in no rush. I think the decision is up to each individual, and should be based on their pup. I don't find fault in holding off, as long as you are a responsible owner. |

| We had Memphis done a week ago today. I haven't noticed any real change in his personality. The surgery didn't phase him a bit. He was quiet when we brought him home but the next day he was ready to go again, it was hard to try and limit his activity level. He was laser done and I would certainly recommend this method. He recovery was faster, the area healed much quicker and looks like nothing was even done just a week later other than he's missing his pieces now. He also had two baby teeth removed. We have problems with marking and that has continued although, it has been -25C here all week and he's really not fussy about going outside when it's that cold. I am really starting to work on peeing habits but the extreme cold weather makes it very difficult. Anyway, I'm glad the whole neuter thing is behind us now. We just enjoy every day with him and he's been a great addition to our family. |

| Remy is yet to be neutered. He will be 7 months old on the 11th. He will mark outside but if he has an accident in the house he will squat. He's never lifted his leg unless he smells another dog outside (like his brother). He has never humped that I know of and I've never seen his "lipstick"! :-P I think I will wait till he is 9 months old.

| I don't think anything about Tibbe changed after his neuter at 10 mos. He is 3, clean in the house and has never marked. He's a perfect little angel/devil mix and ALL Yorkie. |

So, as I said, my little guy is 4. I have never heard the term lipstick. Thought I had figured out what it was, though if it is what I am thinking I can't for the life of me figure out why it is called lipstick. Can somebody enlighten me? Then I got to this thread. What are you cleaning up? Please DO NOT tell me it is what I think you are inferring. Ewww!

| The pottying and the energy are probably more to do with his age...but Yorkies have especially small bladders and if he is very energetic he requires a lot of water intake. Perhaps a pee pad or potty patch might be in your future if you can't always be there to take him out...Princess my mini schnauzer pup finally mellowed after being a year old...the developmental equivalent for a dog as that of a 15 year old person. Scoobers was almost 5 months old-estimated- when he was fixed by the pound and had to be per CA law before I could take him home...literally he was fixed that morning and I picked him up a couple hours later-they did internal dissolving stitches and liquid band-aid on the outside...he is the KING of marking...I used a belly band when we went out and around the house used a Flexi with a waist attachment so he was literally leashed to me so every time he tried to mark I caught him instantly...this was after him being with me a month but to be fair he had many issues to deal with so I'm not sure he's typical. Be glad you don't have a marker...yet. Scoobers has also shown his "lipstick" when my female is in heat...but we jut let him be around her unless he annoys her too much as he can't really do anything...honestly we joke about it he humps her head and if he figures out to go around to her back side he grabs a leg and humps her foot-its hilarious I think she only tolerates it because she's mocking him with us. but we still make sure he doesn't overly annoy her and that he doesn't exhaust himself-so far so good. Elvis is about 3 a little over-he's still not altered I'm hoping it will aid in his advances when my female is in heat, not to mention all the effort in keeping them separated completely-he will exhaust himself and has to be very much so away from her or he won't even eat. He is also responsive to even a female down the block in heat...we can tell by his behavioral changes the neighbors dog is in heat...sorry not too much help here!

I want to say Turky was around 4-5 months when we got him neutered. Strangest thing...he NEVER ONCE marked in the house, but began marking his gate(between 2 rooms) soon after he came back home. Took us FOREVER to break him of that nasty habit. He will still do it every once in a blue moon, but it's very rare(VS. marking every day). Every dog is different tho!

Our vet told me that if you're not going to breed them, the sooner the better. It helps reduce any potential cancers/health issues.

| Hey Viv, Have you talked to Breny about this? I bet she has some insight on this topic. If this helps you any, Kaji was a year old when I got him. He was an expert marker, and I had him neutered 5 days after his birthday. His growth plates were closed, and his development was not affected by the surgery. The marking is 100% under control. It's a behavior, and like any behavior, it is up to us to shape it. If Ressie never marks, it's even better since you won't have to deal with it. But, if he starts to mark, you can definitely teach him where you want him do do it, and where you don't want him to do it. Kaji still marks, but it's never in my house or on my stuff. He knows not to lift his leg on cars either. (I personally find that gross)
