It's just wrong de-barking a dog it is cruel, how about those in favor of debarking be it a metal rod or surgery; go a few day's without talking, typing or just say and thing to anyone, and let's see how you like it!!!!

I get accused sometimes of carrying things too far and attempting to "cram my opinions down people's throats" and I am really trying to avoid that criticism here but I have to ask.....

I think we all agree that it is not the best of choices, but if the only choice is the debsrking surgery or the pound or even possible death if the dog is adjudicated a "nuisance" under the law...would you then think it was okay as the VERY last resort or not?

this topic was discussed here before and my opinion on this is still the same, seeing as i usto own 2 rescued maltese girls that were debarked previously before i got them by thier dumb owners, it is the most sadest thing in my opinion when all you hear is muff coming out when they try to bark especially when they try to bark out of excitement. whether or not it hurts the dogs i think it is soo wrong. to me it is quite simple, you know a dog barks soo if you cannot stand barking then don't get a dog

See, Kim that is just it..dog's bark, you know that when you get one..BARKING is what they do...if it is too much for you, like someone said get a cat. This is the reason why so many apartment's don't allow dog's because of barking. If a dog overly bark's then you can try to find way's to train him/her, like Sherry Lynn. Not, cutting out their vocal cords, would you like your way's of communication cut off from you, I think not!!! You keep sticking up for this, but claim to not agree with it being done...I am not getting that you are sincere about that..but who am I...just some crazy woman on a form... This is my last post in this thread...I'm done...

Well, I know of someone here that has mentioned to me that they thought of having a few of their dogs debarked. They said that they had talked it over with their vet extensively and the vet reassured them that it was painless and the dog would be fine.

BTW, no one scram's anything down my throat...I am a mule-headed, opinionated woman. I have a brain and a mind of my own, and I use it at times...So your opinion's are welcomed, but they won't sway how I feel, and or think...

Also, if a dog kept jumping up on your whitch CHenile couch(if you had one) would you cut his leg's off..that is the same as debarking in my book. My mom's Chi barks his head off when a man comes near the house, sometime's Snoop can go for an hour or 2...It bother's no one.

Awwww...come on Villette...there are 70 posts on this thread and only 9 of them are mine after the thread starter...LOL....JCarlson has 8 and, Platinum Yorkies has 7 and you have 6 so I guess it is a hot topic.

I don't think anyone who read the thread thinks I did anything but post the facts and information and express my opinion that it is wrong to debark except as a last resort to avoid being put to death or taken to the pound.

As a matter of inconvenience, never, debarking is a lazy way out of a situation. But, when ALL other avenues have been exhausted AND the only other option is to destroy the dog, would anyone opt for destroying the dog???

here's what i'd do, I'd learn to tone it out (like i already have ) and if the neighbors have a problem with my dog, tell them to get over it. If they still give me a hard time, i move to the country where i don't have neighbors! JMHO of course.

Want to know how I "debark" Bounce? If I need him to be quiet and he won't stop barking at someone, I strap on the oh so wonderful and ever so gentle, harmless Citronella Collar! lol He won't make a peep, and he always looks forward to the greenie he gets after wearing it!
