| Zoey looks quite dignified and beautiful in your photo. Hopefully she is just reserved and will open up once she becomes more comfortable. Maybe have your daughter try the game of find with any special treats Zoey may like. I will make Buster stay and then walk a little away and put the food down where he can see me doing it then I tell him to find it and he runs to the treat. I then make it a little harder to find. This way your daughter can play without toys. Zoey may have never had the opportunity to learn how to play so you may have to teach her. Teaching simple tricks can be great fun and rewarding for both your daughter and Zoey. I would not worry about the barking too much. Many people have a hard time keeping their dog from barking as it annoys their neighbors so you don't have that issue to deal with. Good luck with your lovely new yorkie. |

| Zoey You were all correct. Zoey has become (a bit) more playful, but she does now bark, jump on the couch, run around, etc. She must have been treated meanly, because when she soils the carpet and I raise my voice to tell her "no", she cowers down in fear of ??? Still won't play with toys, but is becoming a real lover and love to be on my lap! Thanks for all of the kind words. [ATTACH]334794 |

She may have been mistreated, or she is still fearful of displeasing her new wonderful family. My boy Teddy, who we brought home from his very sweet breeder at 8 months, was very sensitive the first couple of weeks. When we were switching him from outdoor potty to piddle pads, he would feel so bad when he had an accident -- and I didn't even say anything to him. Don't read too much into the cowering. Usually it isn't as dramatic as what it looks. Maybe lighten your tone and say, "uh, uh, uh" like "no, no, no" quickly. Looking forward to more good updates.

| That picture is just precious! I'm so happy she is showing some of her personality. It takes time and tons of love.

| First, thank you, thank you, thank you for taking in a shelter dog!! I have two Yorkies, one I adopted from the DC animal shelter about 7 years ago (Vinnie), and another that I adopted from a rescue this past summer (Alex). Vinnie is somewhat aggressive but has always been a kind of mellow dog. He does bark, but has always loved to just lay around or move from lap to lap. He's kind of a lazy dog. For example, it's almost 7:00 AM and he still has not woken up. And he's always been like this, so it's not because he's getting older. At the time we brought Alex home, he had been through a lot. It took about 3-4 months for his feisty personality to come through. Our family has adopted a lot of dogs from bad situations and we've always noticed that there is a sometimes fairly long adjustment period for these guys. I don't know if it's because they are insecure or just not certain if they are going to stay. For the first few months we had Alex, he was always scared when we got in the car. It took me awhile to realize it was because he thought he was being taken back somewhere. Once a few months passed, he loved riding in the car. So, be patient with your little girl, give her lots of love and good food, and I am sure she will come around. The only thing you might want to do (if you haven't done this already) is have her checked out by your vet. There are a few conditions that can cause lethargy that you should probably have ruled out.

This is true for me as well. My Sophia is 6 years old and is very mellow. . She has spurts of playing with toys, but for the most part she is very laid back. Good luck with your girl...God bless you both!
