| Free run of the house? So, I've been crate-training/outside-only potty-training Chewie, and he's doing really well, as long as I take him out often enough. He's really good about peeing promptly everytime he's out, and I'm starting to figure out his poop schedule, and he's starting to do that on command too! I still crate him overnight and when I can't keep an eye on him. So here's my question: when did you start letting your furbutts have free reign of the house and sleep out overnight? Any suggestions to getting to that point?

| This is a good question.....I hope someone answers..... Shay is 20 months, I still dont give him the run of the house. He also sleeps in his kennel, at night.I would be terrified, he would fall out of my bed or we would roll on him....I think I am a worry wart, when it comes to him...lol..

| We have five kiddos from age 10 years to 6 years and they never have "full" run of the house. We have an indoor "doggie fence" that prohibits access to the dining room, front door, and bedrooms. They have full run of the laundry, kitchen, family room, and living room. We did this because when visitors come to the door and our guys want to greet them, sometimes people don't look down, and I didn't want them to get stepped on or worse...leave the door open and have an escapee. With five, we have to take turns letting them sleep with us, but they don't seem to mind not being able to go everywhere. |

| The girls are 18mths old. They are pee pad trained and so can potty indoors anytime they want. They have free run of the entire house at all times. The boys are older and they are outside trained, but they also have free run of the house all the time, they never have accidents. Before we tore up our bedroom for remodeling the girls slept in their xpen at night, mostly for safety (I was scared of them falling out of bed), but since we've been sleeping in the recliners and the xpen was taken down, they've been sleeping on me at night and I'm pretty sure that when the remodel is done they probably won't want to go back to the pen...and they are older and hopefully wiser and will join us in bed. I can't imagine confining any of them..... I think the protesting would make me nuts.

| Jackson has partial free run (blocked from upstairs) since 5 months old. He got full free roam around 6 months old. He's just never been destructive (when we aren't home, that is). So it's always been easy with him. He started sleeping in my bed at 16 weeks old overnight.

| Lucky has had free run from day one! When we would go out to run errands or such I'd put his baby gate to the stairs....I puppy proofed this apartment like a mad woman!! lol I was also at home with him 90% of the time anyways...He has a ramp for our bed, so he adjusted to that perfectly. He is also pad trained but he goes out to potty! It was the other evening I said to my husband....I am very very proud of my baby....lol He don't bite/growl when eating anything, I can put my hand in there anytime and he's a good boy. He has never chewed anything up or destroyed things except his toys and he also has the paint wore from the cabinet drawer where his treats are....cause when he is a good boy he will run to that drawer and rub his paws on it....sooo cute! I know I had gotten a great little guy when I got him!! I can't remember when he has ever disappointed me!! BTW......Do anyone elses babies have a habit of dragging your clothing around in their mouths....like a t shirt or pj pants....Lucky just drags it around the house and when he gets tired he will make a nest with it and sleep....lmao

| Daisy has free run of the house except for the kids bedrooms. She is 6 months and completely pad trained. the only reason we block off the kids bedrooms the girls play with their Barbie's in there so i don't want her to get the little bits and bobs in her mouth. |

| Gatsby has never been crated during the day if i was home because I could watch him closely and scold hi if he pottyed wrong but he took to the puppy pads right away and was using them exclusively after a week. he slept in the crate at night until he was 14 weeks old when he would potty outside in the morning now at almost 2 years old he has complete access except the foyer so he can try and bolt out the door(he is not fixed and although he has never tried to bolt out the door i still keep it gated)

| My Coco had free run of the house from about 1 year old when I felt comfortable that she was 100% reliable - and she was by about 8 months old. I always put her away in the laundry room area when I leave the house and at night, only because I feel she is safer. She is too small and has never been able to jump up on the furniture or climb stairs, and really...........is always by my side wherever I go in the house. Now on the other hand, we have Beckham. He is 9 months old and not at all cooperating with housebreaking, so we now block off most of the house. I'm trying, but he still chooses when he wants to go on the pee pads in the laundry room to get praise and a treat, or just to go right in front of me on the marble floor in the kitchen and get yelled at.

| Mine have always had free run of the house (actually they allow us to have free run of the house) If someone comes to the door we do herd them (the Yorkies not the visitors LOL) into the one room and close the sliding door so they can't make a dash for the outside or anything.

| Hey thanks everyone! I think we're finally starting to get there with the potty-training. I'm kind of thinking that I may eventually dual-train Chewie--it'd be nice for when he has to take middle-of-the-night potty breaks and when it's below zero outside! We haven't been crating much during the day this week, and that's been mostly to keep him quiet after his neuter (ha! like it's done much good!) I guess next step is to start working on being free at night. This might not be the most popular opinion around YT but I have a strict "No doggies in my bed" policy, so the best he'll get will be a cushy bed next to mine.

| I got Sophie at 12 weeks. She started sleeping with me the 2nd night she came home and has till this day. She sleeps right at my head/chest, and once she's good and asleep I can pull her to me and hold her I have to wake her up in the morning to get up, whether it's 5 a.m. or 9 a.m. She sleeps with me till I get up. Sophie is pee pad trained (almost completely - she's 8 months) and now is free to roam in the kitchen, dining room, and living room. The hall is gated when we go somewhere. Otherwise, she has free reign over the entire house when we are home.
