| Hurrah for our side! A few months ago I posted a request for help with talking a couple of women out of breeding their oh so small females! I failed and they went ahead and bred the little things one had 4 puppies and the other had six. I was in a meeting with these two women yesterday and asked them how their little ones were - both of them have had their dogs spayed!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah!!!!!: happyboun One even told me how correct I was about how expensive it was with dew claws, shots tails etc. She said she didn't make any money on them at all. The really good news is that there was yet another yorkie mom in this meeting and she listened to the conversation then told us that she had thought about breeding her little girl at least once but if it was that much trouble she wouldn't do it. The owner that had six puppies added that if she got a sick puppy the expense was even greater! |

| What a shame that she didn't learn the lesson before breeding. But good to know she had her babe spayed now and someone else learned from her.

| I suppose I'll never understand it, but I'm certainly thrilled they got them spayed and the third woman listened.

| I'm glad they spayed their pups, but it is still dis-heartening that the only reason they decided not to breed again (or, not at all -- in the case of the one that was thinking of "breeding just once") was that it was so expensive and there was no money to be made! What about the well-being of the bitches? What if they died? What if they lost puppies? What if the puppies ended up with bad homes? What if the puppies ended up with a genetic problem that wasn't apparent for months or years? There are issues that are WAY bigger than the little bit of money they lost.

| Better late than never and maybe since they have had the experience themselves they will be able to pass the word to others better.

You are preaching to the choir my friend. There was NO talking those two out of it and all ten puppies were healthy and the bitches were fine. I imagine they would have added to the reasons not to breed if they had experienced any of the other things you mentioned. They had to lower their prices too. The one commented on how much time they took up too. Geez!

| No one ever listens to reason. It's always the pocketbook.

| Good for you Lou. Was it at the Yorkie meet up Halloween Party? I've thought about going to one of the meet up but what is really holding me back is exactly the conversation that you had with these women. If I had to hear about people and their breeding ideas it would just take all the wind out of my sail.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Some people have to learn the hard way. My stepmother & Dad learned the lesson when the momma Rat Terrier died 3 days after giving birth, and they had to hand raise the litter of 6--not one of them died,...but it was very hard on them! Also, they had to almost give the puppies away, the economy is so bad Last edited by Darlin Beauxs; 10-16-2010 at 05:38 PM. Reason: left something out |

Nurses both of them. The one is really proud of how dinky her male is. (4lbs.) Sigh. I guess I invite these conversations because I'm always talking about my pack. I can't alienate my co-workers given my position here but it is hard to do this nicely and I haven't been very successful at it yet but at least we have three less hobby breeders now!

| on your success. It is so difficult to try to get folks to understand and listen to others opinions. Thank you for being a voice for the little babies! We need more people like you in the world! I have my opinions but do not do well when it comes to speaking up especially with people I work with. I will slip in a comment here or there or say "ooh, I could never do that" but am truly afraid of confrontation at work. Peggy, Monkey & Maddie
