No way would I patronize a chain that wants to penalize you for traveling with your furry family members for an outrageous sum of money. They claim it's because of the possibility of extra cleaning. I've seen some pretty nasty looking/acting skinkids that I'd charge plenty extra for, and they can make a whole lot more noise than a couple of little barks.

Either way, sneaking a pet in, unfortunately, puts you in the wrong, no matter how you slice it. Gives management an awful lot of rights to use whatever remedies they might want. Personally, I don't like turning that kind of power over to anyone, when I don't know what the consequences are going to be.

DITTO! I've never heard of this chain, but I will look for them the next time we are out and about.

Thirteen years ago when we mentioned Meggie, our 5 lb yorkie at check in, we always ended up in a smoking room or one not as clean as we would like (even in high end hotels). We decided we had enough of that, so just put her in my purse carrier and walked her in through the lobby for 12 years. Never had a problem, but of course we never left her alone in the rooms and usually chose pet friendly hotels so neighbouring rooms would assume she was legal if she did happen to let out a bark. She had her pee pad in the washroom, food, water and us, so no reason to not be content.

Meggie was great, and went into resturants, museums,shops, etc without ever being found out. of course, that was before they started xraying purses at museums!! She passed last Christmas and I miss her so much. My new furbaby has helped fill the void, but isn't quiet in a purse like Meggie was. She was 9 months when I got her (15 months now) and she will hide in the purse, but if I stop walking, she gives me a little "keep moving" whine. Hopefully with time she will be quiet. We ended up buying a small motorhome, so she can go with us when we travel!!! lol

Drury Inn is awesome, actual free hot breakfast, belgian waffles, eggs, the whole smash. The only time we leave the furkids alone in the room is to go get that wonderful breakfast! I've not found a subpar (dirty,unkempt) one yet, though eventually I'm sure I will....there is always a dud in every chain.

I think it important to follow rules of non pet hotel. It is disrespectful to owner, dangerous for doggie and risky for person. Fine pet friend hotel.

This is the same with La Quinta...hot breakfast and rooms clean. Now I have another hotel to choose from. Sometimes I can't find a Motel 6.

Another thing is if you need to leave your little one in a crate or whatever....you tell the hotel staff you don't want your room serviced while you are out. No maids will go in while you have a do not disturb on your door.

A "no pet" hotel means just that....NO PETS. Not, "no pets unless they are small and quiet and in a carrier."

Even pet friendly motels will kick you out if you dont tell them you have a pet with you to avoid the charges. I would only stay at a pet friendly motel if I took my furbabies

Wow...reading over this whole thread now, I am, as always shocked at the amount of people who feel like they are above the rules and that don't apply to them.

To me it's almost like saying "I'm better than everyone else and can do whatever I want. Who cares who it effects." Ever stop to consider what would happen if one of the following guests is highly allergic to dogs? Lots of people are. Oh, but that wouldn't be your problem, would it...because leaving Fluffy at home just wasn't an option and you are the exception.

Holy Cow! We stayed in a Holiday Inn Suite and only was charged $25 for Maddie. I wonder why it was so much for you??? Your baby got a bad rap in the hotel chain business??

I always look for pet friendly though.

To me it is a rule, and rules are made to be followed. German Shepherd, Yorkie, or Gerbel...to me- No Pets means No Pets.

I was thinking of the rulebook and the legalities. Hadn't even thought of the allergy aspect. I suppose that could be devastating to someone with a serious problem. There is always another angle in which to see an issue.

It is a very nice Holiday Inn less than 1/2 mile from where I now live. I knew they were pet friendly....I just didn't realize they were in the rip-off-a-pet-owner business :eek

We decided to stay 40 minutes away at a QI with a $25 pet fee....but I will not recommend that hotel again

I don't blame you one bit. Looks like large chain hotels would have the same fees across the board. Since I have stayed in a Holiday Inn and had such a great experience, I would think any HI would have the same fee. I will make sure to always ask exactly what the fee is. I couldn't imagine checking in and having an extra $125 on my bill

Your baby is adorable by the way, totally joking about your baby having a bad rap.

Way too cute I can tell.
