| I am trying to stay on topic, we could go back and forth all day about wrongs and rights of what I do or you do. However, this thread was about taking a pet into a no pet hotel. My opinion is, this is a rule if not followed could have an unfavorable outcome to your dog, the next hotel guest, the hotel owners, guest in nearby rooms. With that, I do not think it should be done. I see your point and do not want to argue. Had this been about doctor shopping, jay walking, or stealing office suppiles I would have addressed those topics. |

To clarify the above. It is illegal for any vendor including Walmart to even ask to see any documentation on a service animal. That is why it is so easy to abuse. It is a huge violation if, once they are informed verbally or by seeing the vest on the dog, that they ask any additional questions or ask for any paperwork of any kind. So, yeah, not only is it illegal to allow entry it is illegal to ask any questions. The reason is to protect the privacy and rights of the disabled. Abusing the right doesn't immediately impact the rights of disabled, but on a moral and ethical stand it erodes the rights that they've fought for and eventually, if abused enough will cause those rights to be impeded. Enough dogs parading as service animals carry fleas or bark in restaurants or not act as a trained animal should and watch what happens. They will begin to be allowed to demand documentation and that will cause those that have real disabilities issues they do not deserve. And I do happen to believe that abuse of marijuana prescriptions has negatively impacted the passage of medical marijuana laws in other states. The doctors at the VA have put my DH on everything imaginable including pure morphine for his issues and they believe that medical marijuana would be the one thing that would help. This for a man that loathes medications of any kind and only tried pot once in 6 decades, I guess if he got it I'd have to bake brownies...anyway, they'll never legalize it in this state due to the problems in California, so yes, it does have an affect. I'll return you to your regularly scheduled programming....

| We travel by car to Alabama every year for Thanksgiving or Christmas and have been doing so since 2001. If one drives straight through, I believe it could be done in 15-16 hours, for us it is always 18-20 hours. The first year we snuck the three furbabies into a hotel, I didn't sleep the entire night, worried they would bark or something. Since that year, we leave at night and just drive, stopping frequently for potty breaks and at rest areas to nap in the car. No more hotels for us, I am a defensive mommy and would get upset if we were asked to leave when the family with the skin children who are screaming and climbing the walls in the next room are acceptable. ![]() And I trust so very few to care for them, leaving them behind....well it would just ruin our Holiday, so not an option.

Sorry, I know I went waaaaaay into left field. Very interesting post. I actually was once asked by someone for proof that Thor was a service dog - I was just picking up some takeout, so I thought I'd just pop in for a second, no big deal.... I didn't say he was a service dog or anything, this annoying little guy asked me as soon as I walked in. Is it possible that it varies by state? Point taken on the medical marijuana - it was said so reasonably, how could I disagree?

It can be highly frustrating!I did not bring up the medical thing. I do not express my view on it because as you say I come on strong. I have very volatile and emotional feeling to person who do this in my opinion, downright selfish and kinda evil thing. There no way for me to sugarcoat it because my feeling so intense. Which is why I do not bring it up. If I started conversation about, I would be more careful with my choice of word because it easily lead to drama. However, if someone else mention it, I not concerned about managing other people feelings...I did not bring it up and I feel comfortable expressing my disgust.

There are degrees of wrong. Sneaking a dog into a no pet hotel is wrong, but it's minor, but still bad behavior. Same with lying about your dog being a service dog, wrong behavior, IMO. Finding a Dr. with low ethics that will prescribe marijuana to someone who doesn't need it, is worse. It's "disgusting, immoral behavior" and there should be legal ramifications for doctors & patients who do this, IMO. I think lying about service dogs, medication needs, etc.. goes a long way into hurting those actually in need & prevent other states from making the marijuana medically legal. People can do disgusting things and not be evil as you mentioned, but I personally would have a big problem with any of my family or friends taking part in this kind of thing!
