| I wonder if the OP checked into canceling their original reservation, most of the time you can do that within a window of time. Then I would find a pet friendly hotel to stay at. That is so much easier nowadays! I wouldn't risk it. First of all, it's just not right. Your dogs might be quiet most of the time, but they are going to be out of their element in a strange place, this may cause them to make noise!

| a whole 'nother can of worms opened. Disabled persons fought long and hard for the right to bring their certified/trained assistance animals into venues that are prohibited to other animals. Therapy dog owners have put a lot of training into the dogs as well and are proud of their animal's abilities and that they were able to meet the requirements for certification. To frivolously/fraudulently abuse those rights is distasteful to a lot of people.

Those regulations are there for those who actually NEED those dogs and you are abusing their privilege. Do you park in the handicap spots without actualy needing them too? That's just wrong in so many ways. | |

| Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I think it's most likely because they had to leave in a hurry. Hopefully they were able to find a good pet-friendly place. Funerals are bad enough without the extra stress.

| Just adding a little bit of info. Anytime you take the chance of staying in a non pet friendly hotel, if that pet is left alone and there is a disturbance or someone services your room. Management has the right to call animal control to remove your pet. They can also file a police report. Now lets ask ourselves why you need to respect the rules. Allergies has been talked about. But lets talk about safety. Of your pet and others. I know everyone expects all pet owners to take care of their pets like we Yorkie owners do. But in fact there are pet owners who don't. They may pass on fleas, or other pest. Pet friendly hotels have a service come in on a regular basis and disinfect for these types of issues. Non pet friendly hotels do not. Carrier or no carrier. If your sneaking them in you know its wrong. I also agree that disabled people have fought long and hard to have the right to take their animals with them. For you to oversea that I am sure was a mistake on your understanding the underlying problem. Now that you know why it's not a good idea to "fib". I am sure your furbaby will be fine if hes left home alone while you go grocery shopping. |

| I could never sneak this one in. Ringo would be barking his head off at the first strange noise. I wouldn't even try it! But I'm a rule follower too ~ so boring, I know.

| Thanks for the advice! We ended up taking them with us without incident. We could not change hotels, as my husband booked a non-refundable reservation. All we did was sleep at the hotel. The furbabies stayed at my my husband's aunt's house during the funeral. We couldn't stay their either, as it was already packed with people. We are back home safely. It was a rather quick trip and very unexpected. We would have not done it but we absolutely had no one to keep them on such short notice. Pam |

| Thor's Human Donating Member | Glad to hear it worked out for you. ![]() Personally, I don't think sneaking pets in is all that big a deal, and I wouldn't be offended if someone else did it either. This always gets hashed out on YT every few months.

| Sometimes life happens, and events take place that are beyond our control. I'm not perfect, and I'm sure no one else is either but rules are broken sometimes. I'm a rule follower as well, but I think sneaking a small pet in for one night isn't that big of a deal either. I'm not saying it's ok all the time, but in this situation I don't think it hurt anyone. Yes, rules are there for a reason, but I'm sure people with allergies stay at pet friendly hotels too; and if the pet isn't left alone and doesn't come into contact with anyone, then I don't see the harm. Just my opinion.

| Thor's Human Donating Member | I think expressing disgust towards people lying about therapy dogs is a little harsh. I have never pretended Thor was a therapy dog, but it had never occurred to me that it might hurt the handicapped cause. When I first came onto YT, I saw people making that point, and I think it's a good one, so no, don't pretend your dog is a therapy dog. But maybe someone just hasn't thought it through. By the way, living in California, you can get marijuana legally if it's for medical reasons. I know a TON of people who go to shady doctors to get medical exemptions they don't need. Are they disgusting because they are taking advantage of the law? You could argue that they are hurting people with cancer, because their actions can make it tougher for those who really need marijuana to be legal. Just some food for thought.

Here story. My friend has a chihuahua who is therapy dog. She denied going into Big W because they sick of hearing how all the chihuahuas are therapy dog. So yes, it does hurt cause. Damaging handicap rights is disgusting and deplorable to me. I do agree if you hasn't thought it through, just silly mistake. We all make mistake! However I hope if read this thread they learn.
