| Too quiet now after loss- getting 2 yorkies this time Q: would you own two Yorkies? same age/same litter/both females (don't want a male. Story below or you can just answer the question... Thank you Our 13yr old+ Yorkie died on Oct 11 of natural causes. She died in her sleep. She was in basically perfect health, but over the last few months we could see the "signs" that her time was near. Just when we thought it was time, she would then proceed to act like her old self and play like a puppy. Had her checked out at the vet and everything was "normal". The morning of her death we were getting ready for church and she just wasn't acting right. Apparently right after we left for church she crawled into her bed and died. When we came home she looked like she was sleeping peacefully, all curled up in her bed like normal, but she had passed on. We are so glad she didn't have to go thru any major health problems and she was our baby. Went thru the normal grieving process (I didn't think I'd ever stop crying- men aren't suppose to cry you know- . We've always had dogs our entire 30 yr marriage, not to mention owning dogs during our entire childhoods. Longer story shorter- it's too darn quiet in our house. we weren't going to get another dog, but that idea went out the window. Local breeder came out our house to interview us, check out our home, ect and she even brought the pups and mom with her. So between Christmas and New Years we will be buying TWO Yorkies. We always wanted two but we didn't want to introduce a new dog into our home when we already had one Yorkie. Been reading the pro and cons of owning two and we know a couple of people that have had two without any major problems. From what I've read, we have to make sure one of the dogs doesn't become too dominate and we have to be the PACK LEADER. No problem there, all our dogs have been trained by us and all have done well. We haven't paid our deposit yet because we will not finalize the deal until we go to the breeder house and see both parents and we want to wait until around 8 weeks anyway to see how the interact, ect. Breeder said she normal doesn't sell two to one family, but as we have extensive experience with yorkies and was able to answer her questions(and she was able to answer all of ours) that she would allow it. I've seen a few minor threads here about owning two but didn't see anything in detail of pro or con. You insights appreciated..... |

| After getting my yorkie girl last year, I cound myself wishing that I had bought two from the same litter. I'm making up for it by buying a little girl from the 2nd litter, she will be coming home soon. I think it's nice having two. They can play together, and keep each other company when you aren't home. Anyways, I don't have my 2nd girl yet, but I will in the next couple of weeks. I'm thinking it's going to be a great thing. Since you have experience with owning dogs (and yorkies), I'm sure that everything will go just great! I just wanted to offer my condolences for the loss of your 13 yr old girl.

| I am very sorry to hear of your loss of your baby. I am glad that you are opening up your heart for the love another yorkie(s). I have 2, male and female. I like that they have each other to play with. Hot Rod was always very small and it was a concern that he have a playmate that wouldn't sit on him (lol). We have 3 New Foundlands, 2 shepards, cockerspaniel and 2 labs in our neighborhood. I don't feel as guilty when I leave. They get along for the most part although there are times that Hot Rod let's Maggie know that he is the boss. Lately, for some reason, they have been really jealous of each other. If one is close to me, the other runs up and has to push their way in. I don't know why this started recently but it's not a major thing, just surprising. It was important to have Hot Rod socialized as I didn't want him to be a yippy, snappy, afraid of his shadow small dog so that is why we have 2. We had 2 cats prior for the same reasons, to keep each other company. I think it's natural to have 2. Best of luck with your decision and can't wait to see what you decide.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am sorry for your loss. I have always had one dog at a time until 4 years ago.At that time I had an 8 year old pom (always had yorkies before her) and then added a yorkie puppy. Both females no problems. Then I added a 13 month old yorkie about 1 1/2 years later than another yorkie puppy a year after that. So in 4 years I went from 1 pom do 4 dogs. Sadly my pom passed in February after a couple of years of health issues. I just love having multiples, they play together, snuggle together and have their own little family dynamics going on. Yet they are all very loving to us humans!! I think it s great that you are going to get 2 at the same time. With adding them the way I did I spent a lot of time with potty training. Mine are all females and the 2 from the same breeder, different parents get along the best together even though they are 2 years apart in age. Keep us posted!

Luv my 7 Furkids Donating Member | I too am sorry for your loss. I think its wonderful that your going to fill your house with the sounds of little feet....I have two the same age actually theyre 4 days apart. They are best buds, and when they were puppies, I would just pen them off in the kitchen and they had each other. I also sold two litter mates to a friend. She also says they are best buds. Go for it. Your house wont be quiet any longer. lol Congrats, hope you share their pics, would love to see them. |

| Well, first I want to say how sorry I am for your loss. This is never easy but something we all know we need to face as our precious doggies don't live near as long as we do! As for having 2, I worried as well but I am so glad I have a second one now. They keep each other occupied, they tire each other out and when we are all out to work or school, I feel better knowing they have someone to keep them company and I know they enjoy the companionship as well. The only difference in your situation is that you are getting 2 puppies at once and that will be difficult with housetraining but you'll get it all done and over with at once which has advantages too! Good luck! |

| I am so sorry for your loss. Getting two puppies at the same time generally isn't recommended, though. Here are a couple of good articles for you: Think twice before getting 2 puppies - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Two Puppies or One? - VeterinaryPartner.com - a VIN company! |

| I am so sorry for your loss. I had my yorkie for 2 yrs then decided to get a pup that would be my hubby's. Gypsy is def my baby. We did not get at yorkie due to price restrictions. I got him a chihuahua. While they get along good, Gypsy is not a playful dog. She is a cuddler mostly. We recently added a boston terrier so that the chi would have a playmate. They keep each other busy while Gypsy plays referee.

YT 1000 Club Member | i have brothers from the same litter and they are the best of friends. They act just like any siblings would. there are fights but they aren't serious and a quick word from me and it's over and then they are back to playing about 10 minutes later.

| when we got our first yorkie, Maggie, I felt so bad leaving her alone, I was on the lookout for a companion for her. Unfortunately, she died before I could do that. When I saw an ad in the paper for 2 yorkies, male and female 1 1/2 yrs old that had to be sold together, I jumped on it and got Harley and Isabel. They had been together since they were puppies. They would look for each other if one happened to go bye-bye and the other didn't. They would curl up together to sleep and play like crazy. We had them together for 6 years. Harley was killed by a big dog this past December and poor little Izzy looked so lost. We went so far as to start letting our Labrador stay inside with her. She had never been left alone. So, after a while I started looking again and found Moses. He is 1 year to her 8 years, but they have started playing together and they get alone just fine, as long as Mosey lets her be boss. I would not trade the 2 of them for anything and I can't imagine just having one. Yes, you get 2x the expenses, but you also get 2x times the love, entertainment and companionship. Good luck! |

| I think you will be fine, then they can grow up together and they will have a companion when you are gone. We have an English mastiff and a toy poodle both males. The mastiff wont play with the poodle, so we decided to get another little dog to keep him company. That is when we got little Tinkerbell, our yorkie. The thing is, she has no desire to play with my poodle. She plays with the mastiff, he is VERY gentle with her. He lays on the ground and lets her jump all over his head and lick and play. Its so cute to see her following him around outside. He is also her protector, he didn’t really like my neighbor petting her, as soon as he saw my neighbor reaching through the fence, he ran over there and sat and watched the whole time. Hopefully this doesn’t turn into being territorial over her….. I just think its cute right now how they play together.

| Congratulations on getting 2 Yorkie girls! You are going to love having two, I am sure, and I think it is even more special having sisters. I got 2 Morkie sisters in June, and can't believe how fun it is having them. I also have another Morkie and a Yorkie (both girls) that are a year and a half old. Multiples are great, and in my opinion the downsides are so minimal (I can't even think of any), but double the fun and joy compensates for it.

| I have 2 female yorkie sisters from the same litter. I got them when they were 6 weeks old (did not know about them needing to be older when I got them) They are 1 1/2 years old now and I have had no problems with them. I already had my 9 month old male when I got them and they all get along fine.
