Well, first I want to say how sorry I am for your loss. This is never easy but something we all know we need to face as our precious doggies don't live near as long as we do!
As for having 2, I worried as well but I am so glad I have a second one now. They keep each other occupied, they tire each other out and when we are all out to work or school, I feel better knowing they have someone to keep them company and I know they enjoy the companionship as well. The only difference in your situation is that you are getting 2 puppies at once and that will be difficult with housetraining but you'll get it all done and over with at once which has advantages too!
