Default Awww!((((((hugs))))) to you you and Denzel!

So sorry you are having a rough time, and don't beat yourself up for waiting...after all that is what the vet said to do, right? Glad he is doing better so far. As far as Hills Science Diet is concerned, most vet offices carry it because they get bombarded by sales reps. Go to Dogfoodanalysis.com, and look at the different ratings for dog food. You want to get a 5 or 6 star rating for the food that you feed. The less grains and more meat product the better. Not to say that this is Denzel's problem but food allergies are the most common. If he doesn't have an allergy to the food he could develope one later.

Have you thought about feeding a raw diet? I am going to feed my future Yorkie raw when I get one. I joined the raw feeding discussion group on Yahoo, and I have learned a lot. It is easier than you think, and a lot less expensive than you might expect as well. It is so much better for them than kibble.

Anyway, ((((((hugs))))) to you and Denzel. I hope things go better for you all from here on out! Take care!

I made him an appointment because a couple months ago he started to get brown spots on his skin and his vet told me its like dog acne but if it gets worse and don't clear up to bring him back she will have to do test. So maybe the past month he was scratching like crazy and then he started to get more spots and i know i probably shouldn't have waited a month, plus last night and this morning he kept crying and i couldn't figure out why so he slept with me and bf but anyway the doctor said that he is allergic to pollen and dust he has skin allergies. And that he irritated his skin by scratching (my fault). He has to take to different liquid medicines and he has some medicated shampoo. His skin scrapping test came back negative so she told me to keep him in the house as much as possible for the next two weeks because of the meds and the air. He is now sleeping like a baby. I just felt so horrible for my baby how could i have let him be in pain like this? I just thought he had dry skin. Is there any advice yt mom and dads who babies have allergies? Because the vet ask me about his bedding because his was on his tummy but i wash his linen and toys once a week. Its just denzel, hubby, and i. I'm a neat freak i'm always dusting mopping etc. Is there something else i'm missing or not doing or doing wrong?
make sure to wash in hypoallergenic soap - i use the perfume and dye free from costco. I also use perfume and dye free seventh generation to wash water and food bowls. I have been dealing with it for 5 years because it is something on his belly it is a contact allergy it sounds to me - try putting a little tshirt on to see if it gives relief as the tshirts help allergy dogs alot keep dust and pollen off skin and keeping hair longer is better to protect the skin. You need to bath weekly to keep dust and pollen off - use blue hypoallergenic from petco or dr bronners mild unscented baby shampoo as all organic oils and castille soap -- NO OATMEAL SHAMPOOS as many allergy dogs are also allergic to oatmeal. I will read through thread to see more just starting. Also 90% of allergies are environmental 10% food. It starts from age 6mos to 3 years so how old is your baby. It is tough but keeping them comfortable is key. My dd has a staph infection which is brown spots so did the vet do a cytology? Are there red pimples on skin if so that is a staph infection and i recommend starting with simplicef antibiotic for at least 21 days preferably 25 as that is what our dermatologist recommended for dee dee. What happens is they itch and open skin then allows bacteria to get in and you get staph infections. Probiotics are very important for allergy dogs

that food is not good for allergy dogs -- natural balance venison and sweet potato if you do not want to do home cook or raw and do that only for 12 weeks nothing else - no treats - use the kibble as a treat - mine do not know the difference - you have to do 12 weeks -- Did the itching all start after you changed the diet? Chicken and grains can cause allergic reaction in allergy dogs -- Chicken is a hot meat and it heats up the system thus exacerbating the problem as allergy dogs already run hot

At first the vet thought it was pimples but then she did the staph graph and she said it came back negative. also he had those spots before he started the science diet it was way back when he was on iams and then i switched over but i will buy him the natural balance tomorrow i will go to Petco i have all these bags of food trying new food. its a little frustrating because i am taking a lot of people advice and nothing seems to work when one person suggest a food or treat i try it then people make post saying certain food or treats are no good when people just recommended them. now my question is is nutro the same as natural balance? the antibiotics the vet gave him are clavamox drops its a amoxicillin and prednisolone and for his skin she gave me malaseb shampoo and they each have different instructions

Someone recommended Science Diet? I know alot of vet offices carry it, but I've never seen my vet push it. I've also heard that it causes seizures bc of the chemical they use or something.
I also feed Natural Balance Sweet Potato & Venison. It's NOT the same as Nutro. Don't feed Nutro, they were involved in pet's getting sick & some dying & a major recall. NB SP&V only comes in regular bites, but my 4 love it & you know how picky Yorkies are...I think it's the SP. They also have NB SP & Fish, many on YT feed this & the Yorkies like it also.
Deb (dwerten) gave you excellent advice.

Hey Nesha, I am so glad Denzel is feeling better. Tessie and Hobbes send hugs and kisses. They eat Eukanuba and love it. I had a cairn terrier with allergies and he sometimes had to take prednisone and medicated baths so it is not uncommon.

i am on an allergy group and have been for 4 years and see a ton on skin issues. The natural balance venison and sweet potato work best unless you want ot home cook or do raw. You have to stick with it for 12 weeks. You can return food as well if it does not work as they will take it back at all stores. No nutro is not the same as natural balance - did they do a culture of the skin where they take a swab and send to lab and have it cultured - it is about $120 and they can tell what it is. Are you dealing with a dermatologist if not i would recommend doing so as they get to the heart of it alot faster i think

if you want immediate relief then temarilp as that has prednisolone and tavist (antihistamine) - clavamox is an antibiotic - the malaseb is used alot for skin issues - dd reacted to it though

If the dog gets red spots or red all over after bath that means they are having an allergic reaction in the shampoo

denzel did't get a reaction to the shampoo. To be honest he has seem to gotten better i havent seen him scratch and his tummy is clearing up. I only washed him once and the instructions the vet gave me was to wash him once a week for two weeks. He has a follow up next week.

It sounds like you are getting a good handle on his allergy symptoms. I agree that a dermo doc would be excellent for the future. My dal had to be treated several times for sores caused by her allergies.

I am so happy for you and Denzel. I hope Denzel's allergy symptoms will continue to improve. You seem to be doing all you can to help your pet.
