My poor denzel
 
hi yt family let me just start off by saying i know a lot of people post threads like this all day everyday but you are my family i needed to share with you. Denzel went to the vet this morning. I made him an appointment because a couple months ago he started to get brown spots on his skin and his vet told me its like dog acne but if it gets worse and don't clear up to bring him back she will have to do test. So maybe the past month he was scratching like crazy and then he started to get more spots and i know i probably shouldn't have waited a month, plus last night and this morning he kept crying and i couldn't figure out why so he slept with me and bf but anyway the doctor said that he is allergic to pollen and dust he has skin allergies. And that he irritated his skin by scratching (my fault). He has to take to different liquid medicines and he has some medicated shampoo. His skin scrapping test came back negative so she told me to keep him in the house as much as possible for the next two weeks because of the meds and the air. He is now sleeping like a baby. I just felt so horrible for my baby how could i have let him be in pain like this? I just thought he had dry skin. Is there any advice yt mom and dads who babies have allergies? Because the vet ask me about his bedding because his was on his tummy but i wash his linen and toys once a week. Its just denzel, hubby, and i. I'm a neat freak i'm always dusting mopping etc. Is there something else i'm missing or not doing or doing wrong?

Poor baby. I hope the meds help him. What about diet? What is he eating?
Did they take blood to determine what he is allergic to?

YES THEY TOOK BLOOD SHE SAID SHE WOULD CALL ME ONCE SHE GET THE RESULTS. AND AS FAR AS WHAT HE EATS IS HILLS SCIENCE DIET NATURAL BROWN RICE AND CHICKEN I JUST STARTED TO GIVE HIM THAT ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO BEFORE THAT HE WAS EATING IAMS:thumbdown. I JUST STARTED TO GIVE HIM YOGURT AND CHATTIESMOM TREATS HE'S VERY PICKY IVE TRIED SO MANY TREATS WITH HIM HE ALWAYS TURNS HIS NOSE UP AND HIDES THEM WHEN HE DON'T LIKE THEM. I'M ALWAYS FINDING THEM EVERYWHERE I JUST DON'T KNOW HOW TO GET HIM TO EAT HIS TREATS. I DID A POST A WHILE AGO BUT DIDN'T GET ANY FEEDBACK.

Our dalmatian had allergies bad (they are very prone to them). For her the worst thing was carpet. I taught her to lay on her blanket only (100% cotton) and that helped. The next worst thing was grass. Again I discouraged her from laying on it. She still had very itchy feet and behind (from sitting on stuff). As she got older it got worse and worse, she got sensitive to just about everything. Man-made fibers were always the worst (so couch, carpet, nylon fabric, etc). I bought denim couch covers and did all I could to keep her off the things that aggravated her. Don't overlook food allergies, they are probably the easiest fix. We had our dal on lamb and rice, we had to stay away from all other grains and meats.

Sugar doesn't like food or treats much either :rolleyes: The yogurt,though,she loves! Yogurt is good for Denzel's skin too :D I make my own but store bought is fine.

I started making chicken jerky at home for Sugar. She mostly loves it...but wants me to break it up and feed it to her :rolleyes: its also super easy to do and I know its safe unlike the stuff from China

Could Denzel be allergic to the laundry soap you are using? Maybe try switching to unscented uncolored...just a thought...

thank you because the vet asked me about the grass when i walk Denzel. i used to walk him on the cement only because i didnt want him to get fleas but i just started letting him walk in the grass at the park but he won't sit on the grass idk why but he will walk in it. so she also told me to watch the grass for now

yes sugarmamma i just started feeding him yogurt when you made that post about your homemade yogurt about a month ago. as far as the washing soap its been the same since i first got him. its arm and hammer detergent. i also read a reply someone said vinegar and hot water?

My daughter had an allergy to laundry soap as a baby. We had to use that baby detergent (can't think of the name, sorry she's 17 now) that was unscented and do an extra rinse on it too.

My poodle is super sensitive too, bites on her feed a lot. About three weeks ago I started using Tropiclean's OxyMed (Medicated Oatmeal treatment rinse) it's like conditioner. Says it that it helps with seborrhea, scaling, eczema, hot spots, flaking and flea bite dermatitis. I don't know if that will work for you, but it's helped my poodle tons.

IMO I really don't like Science Diet food. Read the ingredients, it's not much better that the stuff at Walmart. I use Evo. It's grain free and high quality ingredients. Just a suggestion. Please, let us know what the blood results reveal.

wow ok i will definitely try the medicated rinse and as far as his food i will change it again. I thought science diet was good because that is what ive seen in numerous vet offices down here. So do you suggest i try another food or should i wait because he hasn't been on science diet that long and they came out with a all natural thats the one he's been eating. So would you say its safe to change the food this early? And exactly what is evo? Is that the correct spelling or is that abr.?

I have a dog with severe allergies. She was in and out of the vets office with different meds and shampoos for the first year of her life. We tried every kind of food, starting with eliminating anything with chicken, etc. We finally ended up at the doggy dermatologist doing a skin test. She ended up being allergic to dust, dust mites, mosquitos, different types of trees, molds, and fungi, and a few other things. She is now on allergy shots once a week and only has flare ups a few times a year, but they are not nearly as bad as they were. I know it is hard to see them in pain, but give it time and you will figure out what he is allergic to and will be able to work around it!
