As far as Hills Science Diet is concerned, most vet offices carry it because they get bombarded by sales reps. Go to Dogfoodanalysis.com, and look at the different ratings for dog food. You want to get a 5 or 6 star rating for the food that you feed. The less grains and more meat product the better. Not to say that this is Denzel's problem but food allergies are the most common. If he doesn't have an allergy to the food he could develope one later.
Have you thought about feeding a raw diet? I am going to feed my future Yorkie raw when I get one. I joined the raw feeding discussion group on Yahoo, and I have learned a lot. It is easier than you think, and a lot less expensive than you might expect as well. It is so much better for them than kibble.
