Probably not the cell charger, but the other cords can be fixed for less than $2.00. The basset hound pups here have chewed the fan cord twice. I just take to my son and we put a new end on.

They are just like a baby. I would rather crate than have DH having a temper tantrum.

Sorry he is so upset: but that would not have been acceptable here.

For your pups safety, invest in an xpen. You will have complete control of the environment. You can add bowls, toys, and her bed if you wish. Lola chewed through the cord to my router and burned her mouth. It happens so fast. I would hate to see her get hurt.

I know I am just repeated what everyone has already said, but : XPEN! I hate the idea of crating, too. So hubby went out and bought LARGE XPEN so that she could still have mostly roam of the living room, but only the parts we wanted her in. He has a lot of electronics and things (electrical/software engineer) that Allie and would both die if she got over here and chewed stuff up.

One morning, I was sitting in the floor with her and my laptop and she chewed most of that cable through with me sitting right there!

They are precious babies, I am just glad no one was hurt either in the electrical chewage or the projectiles.

I can relate, but fortunately not on such an expensive level!
Wrigley chewed through a lamp cord that was plugged in and an electric blanket cord that was plugged in when she was a puppy!
We were able to fix both of them pretty easily!
I'm sure your husband will calm down in time, good luck!

I think the X-Pen is the best choice for Maddy. She has always been freaked out by a crate, she thrashes and throws herself against it, and I just can't watch her do that. I am debating on if I should take her to the vet... I can just see her eating parts of those cords.

That is no problem. To repair, you go ahead and cut through if it is only partial anyway. You just scrape the plastic/rubber off about an inch or two on each side. Separate the wires and then twist them back together with the appropriate ones. If they are all just plain copper, just twist them together, one around the other for a length of maybe 1/4 - 1/2 inch. If the wire is full of lots of little copper wires, just use it like one and twist together with the bunch from the other end. Then get out the electrical tape. Wrap it extra well, ensuring all wires are at least triple coated with the tape. Then it will work. May not look as pretty, but will work just fine. (If you want the joint to be extra strong, you can use one of those little solder guns to just barely melt the wires together. This is really not necessary but we have one of those little pen like solder guns that is pretty handy.) I have done this many times myself over the years -- it really is simple as can be.

It's not that big of a deal to fix the cords but it's a good think your little angel was not hurt. For her own safety, I agree an xpen is in order. Maybe even 2 xpens put together. My Zoe was never a chewer, knock on wood and believe me, I thank my lucky stars! But it sounds like yours really likes to chew maybe when you are there, give her lots of things she can chew so that she gets it out of her system but until she can be trusted, your husband is right, she needs to be contained. But that being said, I do think he's gotta take a chill pill. If he breaks your couch or puts a hole in your wall throwing a flashlight, that could wind up being a much bigger expense to fix.

Whenever I am gone, I put my Samoyed in a crate. Too dangereous to leave her out. I totally understand your husbands frustration. We have had things chewed when we turned our head for a second.

Don't feel bad if you have to crate her while you are gone. She will be fine.

Well... it's for sure not the fault of Maddie and your DH getting mad at her is not very mature IMHO...

She doesn't know that she did something wrong and she certainly didn't do it in spite. No offense but dogs will be dogs and puppies will be puppies and they chew on everything that's reachable. Good thing she wasn't hurt! An x-pen is the best solution and she won't feel bad about that. It's going to be her safe haven and she will feel protected from her scary environment.

X-PEN all the way You need one to keep her safe if she is chewing.

I can understand your DH being upset. Maybe if you can try to be supportive towards him, he will get over this sooner. Then together you can work out a safe alternative for confining Maddy when you are out.

I'm sure glad that she's ok. That could have been a fatal accident.

If you go talk with him about a play pen, he will realize that you are sympathetic with him about what Maddie did, and he may get over his mad a little faster. I bet some of his anger is also aimed at the fact that she could have been killed, and then he may have felt to blame, as it is his equipment.

He knows he goes in it at night and when I leave for school (during the school year) and he goes straight it. I don't even have to close the door at night. He is a lot safer and I know he isn't going potty or chewing on anything. He chews A LOT! That's just my opinion though.
Yeah, I think it just depends on the dog too. I don't think crating is cruel at all, and a lot of dogs I know really like their crate! It's their personal space/den.

I did the crate thing for the first month that I had Jackson, but it just never stuck... and he honestly loathed going in the crate. It did help out a ton with the potty training for sure.

I probably could have worked with him better on it, but he was always a really good puppy. I bought an ex-pen and for the next month, he stayed in that in my bedroom every time I left the house. Did that for a month, then got rid of the ex-pen, he NEVER has accidents when I'm not here. He just sleeps the whole time, I'm sure. Every single time I've left him alone, we never come back to accidents, chewed things, etc. He had/has accidents when I'm here tho, go figure. He's 9 months old and very trustworthy.

I totally agree with you... and I made it very clear that she didn't do it knowing she was being bad. I about lost it when he lost his temper, because it scared her so... I can't stand when people get THAT upset. Thankfully she wasn't hurt and he even said that he was so happy that everything was unplugged for a recent thunderstorm. He just was very emotional and lashed out. He has since calmed down, and they are playing just like before.

I am going to get an Xpen and DH is rewiring everything as we speak so she will be safe, whether we are home, or not.
