Hey girl....

I'm sure all will calm down soon, but here is another suggestion if you're place is not big enough for an x-pen as they can be quite large. We used a baby play pen with mesh sides for Snickers when he had separation anxiety. It has 3 sides of mesh and is raised about 5-6 inches off the floor, so we kept it next to a window and he was happy as can looking outside while we were not home. Now that he is cured and is potty trained we do let him has free reign over the house with bedroom and spare bathroom doors closed. He is doing great and the baby playpen was perfect! We put a blanket and his toys in there with him and he was fine.

Everything will all work out!

Glad to hear that all has calmed down some! It is so stressful to have them be naughty when we are gone! You are so lucky that she is okay and that the wire could be fixed- I can imagine how my hubby would feel if ours did that. I do pen my two sometimes when I am gone for longer periods of time but they dont mind- good luck hope you find a room or xpen that will work to keep Maddy safe.

Well, guys, I know I'm an old fuddy duddy and worry wart but I think Sarah and her husband have the right idea totally about taking the equipment to a licensed electronics place.

I come from a different life experience since our house burned down in 2002 while we are at work from (what the state fire marshall's investigation finally found) an electrical malfunction in the wiring of a plug-in. I never in my life even thought about fire and now the slightest change of sound in a motor, etc. can throw me in a tizzy.

Sarah, I can't for the life of me remember where I bought this but if you're interested, I'll try to research past invoices... Before we got Taffy, I bought this cord cover thingey that is like a plastic tubing that is round like a small tube but slit so that cords can be tucked inside it. It is treated with something that is distasteful but not harmful to pets.

I bought several different kinds of pens and fences, etc. while preparing for Taffy but have found that our favorite is the taller Richell fences. They are really quite attractive, too. I purposely didn't attach ours together as directed so that I could use them in other ways. They are free standing and wonderful! They are pricey but so versatile. (I think I got them cheaper than this link but I did the fastest link search. Also, be aware that you need the tallest ones, too, if you go this route. I'm not sure which this link shows.)

I remember, too, that you guys are still newlyweds so I have a feeling this hurt more than just Maddy's feelings. Try to realize that he's probably regretting such an outburst but it came from that man and his music place. My husband is the same way about his electronics!

So far Miss Taffy hasnt eaten any electrical cords but she has managed to bite/gnaw two large keys off my laptop keyboard while it was setting on the floor by my chair. I about freaked out because she could have swallowed them! Plus, I'd never seen the nakedness underneath the caps lock and the shift! However, they did pop back on....whew!

We tried to crate Bella but she HATED it to the point she would potty in it so we would take her out. I really think something bad happened to her in a crate! We have done two things to keep her safe. First we have baby gates to keep her in the room we want her mostly kitchen while we are gone. Second she has had puppies so to keep them all safe and together we have an xpen with a whelping box my bf managed to retrofit to an odd shaped space in our bedroom. The babygates work very well if you want her to have more room than an x pen provides but the x pen is a gauranteed safe area. Good Luck!

Hey you, thanks for the links... Chris is actually rewiring everything now. We have a BILLION cords... DH is huge on electronics. We have everything you could possibly think... 400 disc DVD changer, surround sound, blu-ray, tv, projector, drop down projector screen.. you get the idea.

We are rearranging our furniture now so the wires will run directly behind the TV and we needed room for our new floor lamp anyways! Makes our living room look a lot more open, actually.

Yes, we have only been married about 2.5 years so it really upset Chris that "his items he worked hard for" were messed up. Since being married we are much more well off than when we were single, but I think it just hit a nerve that makes him upset. Things have calmed down, and Maddy still just adores her dad. He has been calling her Bratty all weekend tho... lol.

I am glad that everything isn't as tense as it was before! Things like this happen and they are NO fun. Sounds like everything is turning around for the good! And I am sure Maddy will fall in love with her expen!

I would also have thought that the damaged wires could be repaired pretty easily. There's nothing that fancy going on there.

It's life, stuff happens, we grow and learn and go on to make other mistakes. Glad to head that Maddy is out of the dog house. And it sounds like maybe she needs some more chews.

Your DH's reaction (albeit a bit too aggressive) was not without merit. You have to think of your Maddy just like you would a toddler.

You'd never dream of allowing a toddler free access to your home and the same goes for our little furkids, too.

Puppy-proof, Puppy-proof & Puppy-proof some more. These kind of incidents that you experienced are from boredom plus, a natural instinct to simply...chew.

The situation could have been far worse not to mention big $$$ had the end results of all that chewing caused a trip to the Vet for what could have been ingested.

Glad to hear that all of DH's things are being repaired and again, I'd have been upset, too...just more at myself for not realizing the risk to my pet being left unconfined.

Most of the wires are now repaired and DH is happy. Maddy is glad she is not on punishment anymore, even tho I was enjoying her attached to my hip more than usual.

So glad your baby is ok. I hate to say that I side with hubby on this one. Not only is there the expense and aggravation of the repairs but there is also the possibility that it could have caused 1. a fire to your home, 2. death to your yorkie. That's why crates, puppy-safe rooms, etc. are the best thing for our babies when we're out. This is not meant to be mean or anything, just really concerned for those who think that by containing their babies when they are away they are somehow hurting them. My question...would you leave a human toddler left unattended/unsupervised in your home while you're out? Just my humble opinion.

This isn't meant to be bitchy or anything, but it kind of cracks me up when people say "think of your dog as a toddler." Think about it, would you leave a toddler alone for a few hours locked up in a crate?

I'm not trying to be mean at all, it just makes me chuckle a little bit.
