We took Smokie to the Vet and he received all his shots, the vet took a blood sample and a fecal sample to send to the lab. (results not back yet) We got him started on his heartguard, and his first dose of frontline. I also got his toothpaste and brush. The Vet Tech said it would take about a month before I could use the brush, but he is now letting me rub the toothpaste on his teeth. The Vet said he is a good looking dog for a Yorkie, and said that he is about a year old. I'll be glad when the lab results come back. So far, so good. He also did very well at the vet office.

Pamela - So glad to hear you got Jasper. Its sad when these dogs go from home to home. I have found that taking Smokie out, and then giving him a treat when he goes potty outside is a big thing to Smokie. If he is having accidents in your house, it could be because no one ever took the time required to teach him right and have the patience and love to care. I use Jerky Treats - which are like soft beef jerky and I just give Smokie a small bite at a time. Any time he does something good, he gets his treat. He has responded to this very very well. These are also a natural treat not full of fatty stuff. You can get them at the grocery store just about anywhere. They are in a tan colored bag. One bag lasts me 2-3 weeks since he only gets little bites. But they sure have worked. In time, with lots of love and patience, your Jasper will respond to you, and the treats given for reward of good behavior work oh so well. Good luck with Jasper. I'm sure he has a very good and stable home now. Dogs seems to zone in on that one. I know Smokie did. Reva

Tanyag9 - Pixie is so lucky to have found his new home. Just listening to you talk about him shows you will be so loving to this baby. You are right - it is your gain, they are such loving dogs.

Thanks Reva, As a matter of fact I have those treats and give a piece in the morning after potty outside and the same after the last potty of the night.
I will cut them up and put them in those snack back and carry with me on walks.
Should I give him a piece every time he goes, sometimes on a shot walk 15 mins, he will lift his leg 7 or 8 times, that would be a lot of treats.
My husband and I are already very attached to him in such a short time, it's unreal and he does not take up much room in the bed.
Thank you
Pam

Couver was rehomed when he was 5 months old. The woman had her grandchildren move in with her, and she did not feel that it was the best home for him. She cried when I left with him. I let her hold him one last time before we left. She had me come over when her grandkids were taking a nap because she knew they were going to be crushed when they woke up knowing that he was gone.

I sent a couple emails to her with pictures so she knows that he went to an awesome home. I hope to rescue a yorkie within a couple years

I just love coming back to the thread to read all of the wonderful stories and look at all of the adorable pups. It makes me to be part of such a great group of people who love these little ones soooooo much. Always makes me feel good when I am feeling down.

My Abigale was pulled from a local shelter by a rescuer. She was attacked by one of her dogs and taken to my vet. She had damage to her mouth and lost some teeth and bone and had damage to her eye. She had surgery to save the eye but has no sight in it. The vet didn't send her back to the rescue. They kept her at the office and tried to find her a home. They ask me if I wanted her but since I had 2 sick seniors and another yorkie I told them no but I would foster her until they found a home. Well needless to say nobody wanted a 10 year old DAMAGED yorkie so I kept her and I am so glad that I did. She has been the best little girl. She has had some training sometime during her life and it's beyond me how she ended up at a shelter. I lost my 16 year old in March and it was just meant for me to have this little soul that nobody wanted.

Of the five yorkies I have now, only one is a rescue (although I've been blessed to have had others over the years). Jordy is a biewer that was raised in an Arkansas puppy mill. He grew a little too large to breed, so the miller put him in an auction where the rescue group found him. He was 1 1/2 years old at the time. I first heard about him here on YT not long after joining, and just fell in love when I saw his picture.

The YT thread was a week or so old by the time I saw it. I figured he would probably already be adopted since he was so CUTE, but I just couldn't forget about him. A few days later I decided to look at the rescue's website and he was still there! I had to fill out an application right then. That same afternoon I got a call from the rescue and the adoption process began. I went that weekend (just before Thanksgiving last year) to pick him up. I couldn't believe they'd chosen ME to be his new mommy!!

Jordy has been such a blessing. He is loveable and loving, gentle (especially with the young pups), playful, smart and has the sweetest nature I've ever seen in a dog. He has adjusted well to his new home life. When I first brought him home he didn't know what to do with a toy, or what to think if I gave him a treat, but he figured those out pretty fast!! Now he loves getting his huggins and smooches, and wrestles the others for his favorite toys! I love my sweet little man!!

Thank you for this thread. I'm grateful for the opportunity to tell others about my biewer rescue, Jordy!
Just looked at the website Yorkie Haven Rescue and saw that I can help a little by using Good Search. I'll be glad to do that! I'd love to adopt a rescued Yorkie someday; but, until then, at least I can help by using Good Search.

Using Good Search is an excellent way to help!! Thank you so much for bringing up this point. I've been using it for a while now, and it works great! Thanks you.

About a year and a half after putting our 17 1/2 yo Bichon to sleep I purchased a little yorkie (now 11+ lbs.-) When Bubba was a little over a year old I was contacted by some one I knew who had a large dog rescue asking if I would by any chance be interested in rescuing a 5 1/2 month old yorkie belonging to some one who had given it up because of a family breakup and the mother not having enough money to feed her kids much less feed and vet a puppy. It didn't take long to agree to at least look at her. When I got a look at her there was no way I could leave with out taking her with me. She was under weight, frightened and a few days after getting her home found she was loaded with tapeworms. Sissy is a very happy and loving little girl today (oh, who am I kidding she weighs 11+ lbs also) but still is not much for playing with toys and is not especially fond of strange men. I'd do it all over again and have no regrets in taking her.

Good Search is a search engine (like Google). You can click on this link, select the participating charity of your choice (including Yorkie Haven Rescue ), and for every search you do on the internet using Good Search a donation is made to your charity without any cost to you. GoodSearch - Web search, coupons, discounts & deals for charity!

Another great idea is when you're shopping online (this includes E-Bay & Amazon), if you shop & purchase through www.igive.com a portion of your purchase is donated to your charity at no extra cost to you. E-bay will donate a MINIMUM of 25% of your total purchase to the charity you choose!

Thanks for asking about this great way to help!

Oh, I can just picture her as a scared little puppy! I feel bad for the poor family who had to give her up, but I'm so glad she found a home with you and Bubba!!
