Do Yorkies sometimes look like Chuahuas?

So you didn't see Ksena before you got her? I thought you got her from a local breeder and saw her and her parents before you brought her home.

Yes, It wasn't done overnight. I had gone back and forth with the breeder for weeks. She told me she was holding her for me and when I got there I mentioned that she didn't look anything like my male. The breeder said Ksena's head was better than my males and that they would be a good pair for that reason. I thought about running...lol...until she brought out the dad...who was just as cute as the mom and the breeder said some dog's hair takes longer to come in and that her hair would reach the ground so I figured that the hair would eventually cover her head and it wouldn't matter. It took a couple of days then it dawned on me when people kept commenting about her looks that I began to wonder if she was pure at all and I had been lied to...my mother in law came in and asked what mix she was....that's when I got mad!!!!!!!!!!! If she is pure and just not the greatest no problem, I'll chalk it up to stupidity on my part but then again the breeder is pretty dumb because my limit was $2,000 so she could have made more money and had a very happy customer....anyway, if she's not pure than pretty much everything the breeder said was crap. After I got the comment about what mix she was and then my husband's secretary saying they look like different breeds....stuff went thru my head like the aunt part...Ksena was payment for the breeders stud her aunt used and every time I asked to talk to the aunt I was redirected like she didn't want me to talk to the aunt or maybe the aunt didn't exist....it took her 3 days to find her aunt in the very beginning??????? She claimed because it was nice outside, weird yep...could be true but strange. I started to think that the pup was brokered....maybe not....it's just I never in my wildest dreams imagined this.....I thought a Yorkie looked like a Yorkie...I didn't realize a Yorkie could look like another breed????????????? Weird....

Oh, I didn't see my French Mastiff's parents in person only by photos because she was shipped to me....different thing all together...and believe me she was worth every penny plus more...The breeder grilled me for weeks by phone before she'd let me have her...she was the most beautiful dog I'd ever seen!

I had a friend one time that look at me with a vacant stare and she said I could have anything and I bought this! What was I thinking. We both cracked up! I know I learned a lesson 35 years ago buying my first Yorkie, boy was I gullible! I'm not sure you would find humor in it now so I will save it till later!

I just realized how that sounded...when it was all said and done I'd spent $10,000 on her....I didn't pay $10,000 for her alone....for her and expenses thru her life....pretty expensive but I'd do it again...I could go on and on about her...

Just throwing this out there in regards to coats....a yorkie's coat which is considered hard silk....is thin looking and grows very slowly until it comes in. It is a desirable coat.

Have you checked the Better Business Bureau to see if there are any complaints against her? Googled her name to see if you find something?

You sure found out the hard way that all Yorkies are not created equal. The YTCA sets out the blueprint that responsible breeder's should follow to make sure Yorkies continue to look like Yorkies. Because Yorkies have become so popular and therefore profitable, they have become a favorite of greeders who care nothing about the breed standard. Or naive owners who mistakenly believe that putting any two Yorkies together will result in puppies that look like Yorkies are supposed to. It takes a lot of time and money to produce beautiful Yorkies.

Thanks. That reminds me, I've noticed, which I didn't notice when I got her was the white on her head????? It's a little white...or silver...whatever it's called, just doesn't look like that belongs there either.....

I got Joey at around 12 weeks and at the time there was no white or silver on the head, but shortly after his head hair started growing in white/silver. At 11 months it was all silver, and then grew beige, and finally it's a golden color. So the white/silver is very common. They change a lot the first couple of years.

For some reason, most people who have a problem with a breeder don't think to file a complaint with the BBB.

Go to our Breeder section and find the websites of some of our reputable breeders who show. That will show you what a Yorkie puppy is supposed to look like at Ksena's age.

I think she is a mix, but I am not sure how much of a mix they have to be to show that on DNA testing. If you saw the real sire and dam (which I am confused about since she was supposed to be a trade for stud fee right? then why would the breeder have both sire and dam there?). but if those were the parents, then maybe the mix was a generation or two back. So, does the DNA test show if they are 7/8 Yorkie? I don't know the answer to that.

I do not think she is a red leg because a redleg is defined just as much by the pattern of color as the lack of length. See in this picture how the red comes up on the sides http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/att...o-cimg1040.jpg You don't see the lack of hair growth of a red leg as a puppy. They do grow hair out more than a short-haired chi, they just don't get the long, to the floor coats of a standard Yorkie. Does your puppy have the reddish color coming from underneath and extending up the sides like the picture? If not, I doubt she is a red leg. Some call dogs red legs if their coat does not grow long, but sometimes those are just wirey coats, another fault.
