| Male or female If you were to pick again would you pick male or female, and why? For some reason I think female are cleaner (maybe its human experience?), but I think in memory of my wee Millie, I should get a boy this time. My mum in law says we should get another wee girl the same and call her Millie I am afraid people will think I am trying to replace her, so a boy would be totally different.

| I would (and am) going for a girl again. I have no idea why, it's almost instinct. I have never had a boy dog, so it seems to be the way to go again. At the back of my mind, that whole leg lifting thing is probably the most off-putting part... |

| I have both and if I were to get another it would most likely be a female. I just like female dogs better.

| Because Millie died from her spay, I will be doing a lot of research before I go down this road again. I will not be doing it for the convenience of not marking or humping. I will not do it to avoid unwanted puppies - I will just be very vigilant. Millie was never out of our sight so, this was never a risk. I will only get another pet spayed if I can be convinced it will have notable health benefits, and even at that, they may enjoy a long and healthly life without ever been spayed/neutered. I think a lot of the spay/neuter campaigns are to prevent unwanted puppies, and I dont think this is a good enough reason to take that risk.

| To the OP. It could be possible that girls are cleaner in the house than boys. Our first boy is very very clean our second one is not. But we totally love both. As I was looking after a biewer it was not matter if itīs a boy or a girl. And then I saw Zorro with his beautiful markings and his outstanding personality and thatīs was it what made my decision to buy him and not another one. A few motnths later we wanted a second dog. And because Zorro is a boy we were looking after a second boy and picked his halfbrother. There was a beautiful tiny halfsister for selling too, but we had her to spay and I thought this could be a risk because of her really small size. So we take Rambo with us and both boys together are very well. Good luck in finding a puppy! |

I recommend the following article for spay/neuter health risks. I think spay/neuter is okay for most, but needs to be done for the right reasons. http://www.naiaonline.org/pdfs/LongT...uterInDogs.pdf

I was giving her water and glucose every hour through the night, and in a one hour slot she did. I have so many what ifs....if she hadnt been spayed, if I had went to different vets, if I hadnt went to sleep for that hour that she died..... Thats the hardest thing - there is no reason, and it shouldnt of happened

| I've only had one dog, and he is male. My roommate has a female puppy... not a Yorkie though. It's hard for me to say since I really don't have much experience with female dogs, and I'm sure their personalities are dependant on the dog... But if I had to pick again I would probably pick a male. A lot of people had said they don't like the whole leg-lifting thing... I actually love it! I think it so adorable. And he only does it when he is outside. Anyways, Shell, I am so sorry about your loss. Good luck with finding a new pup, whether it be male or female.

BUT if you do plan on fixing them, I believe both are equally amazing pets.
