| i didnt say i didnt believe they do harm ,we must be lucky in our area. we have cattle, new born calves sometimes out on pasture, neighbours have sheep. Like I said, My Sister in law has poms, mini eskimos, we have two border collies, never a problem. we in a wild life conservation area, and never had a problem. yes they're all around us( 2300acres) they come to the fields close to the house they tour around. they howl at night driving our dogs nuts, they just bark back, we've never had one come on the yard. How tragic for those who lost dogs to these creatures. I know it can happen, it just hasnt happened here. and that poor lil girl. |

The problem in the US is that we have encroached on the natural habitats of our wild animals. We have made it more and more difficult for them to find food since houses now fill the areas where they previously hunted. Coyotes used to stay away from man. Now they are living side by side with us in residential areas and have become quite comfortable hunting for food very close to our homes.

Coyotes generally travel in packs, and they send two "scouts" out to corner their prey, and when they have done so, the rest of the pack, descends. I spent over 35 years doing "Orphaned Wildlife Rehab" and believe me, they are no longer afraid of people. When they are hungry, they lose their fear. Sheila

| I just came in from my backyard with Toby. I can't believe I'm reading this thread. I was standing in the back corner of our 1/2 acre in the middle of town in Connecticut. I heard what I thought was a a coyote howling and then some smaller dogs barking and then some not so great noises. I hope everything is okay, but it didn't sound like it was. It's 10:30 here. There is a big empty field behind my house, and the howling was coming from across the field. I know of people who have let their dogs out and they have never come back. |

| we live outside of the Phoenix area and will hear about them coming into our subdivision sometimes, although I haven't seen one. I have to worry about hawks though, they sit out on the power lines and watch. One of the girls I work with knows someone who had their yorkie taken out of the backyard by a hawk and there was nothing they could do, it was very sad.

| I work two days a week in a coffee stand to get out of the house, one of my customers in the general area has had her dog attacked by a coyote she was outside with her and the dog was still attacked it has been about 6 months since this incident but it still makes me think, i had never seen nor heard them at my house before today, but you can never be too careful with your babies, it is also so scarey to hear that there have been dogs attacked on leash in california. I am in the process of putting up a fence in my front yard but this might be the thing that makes it happen a little faster.

| Here where we live it's not the coyotes, it's the hawks and owls that I have to watch for. Haven't heard coyotes for a long time, but it's scary all the way around. |

| Where I live, Coyotes are everywhere. I see more dead coyotes on the side of the road then I do rabbits, And there are alot of rabbits on the side of the road. I have come n contact with at least 40 in the past 2 years. At a very close distance. I almost lost the GSD I walk to one of them when she was off leash. She chased One away and she could have very well killed it, but luckily he/she was spooked to much to turn around and attack. These coyotes will crawl into your yard and act very very submisive to make friends with your dog, when your dog follows it out of your yard, The pack will be waiting to attack.. My family were accually thinking about getting A tibetan mastiff for guarding/working purposes. Im not sur I would be able to handel keeping a dog outside all day and night, Even if it was bred and trrained to do its job The tibetan would be trained to kill Coyotes, and wouldnt have any problem killing them without getting hurt. But i still wouldnt like having oe out there. (We have 6 acres of land).. My friends huskey was killed by 3 coyotees! And he wasnt a small dog eiter, he was huge! |

| Mitzidad You have cause for concern. I live in CT. the coyote population is booming. Keep in mind that these are predatory animals. Please, keep your babies safe! NEVER, EVER leave them unattended. |

| It was a miracle you saw him first. A couple of years ago two tore up a doberman in his own back yard. This was in a residential area too. I guess we have to really blame man. They continue to take woods away from the animals and they are forced to come into areas that they never would have in the past. Malls are closing down the street and they are building another down the other street! Makes no sence at all! |

| Coyote? Try Black Bear! Coyote will go after dogs and I would be concerned of rabies if a nocternal animal shows itself in day light be careful! My little Izzy, all 4 pounds of her, made it through a Black Bear attack. We live on 2 1/2 acres and I let her and her sister get away from me they were barking at something in the woods acting really badass when all of a sudden a bear jumped out and I saw my little baby tumble. I screamed and thought for sure she was a goner. Both of them ran thier little feet off to the house. Scared me to DEATH! Fortunately Izzy was just out of his reach and she only had 2 punctures. A great story at the Vet office but man an eye opener for me! |

| There are always coyotes running around outside my house. The strange thing is that I live in the middle of Los Angeles |
