Coyote!!! I just saw a coyote in my yard! I live on 10 acres down a long driveway, not too many neighbors. So I know that I am going to see wildlife from time to time but I am sitting in my dinning room visiting with my friend and we look out the window and there it is, I am kind of freaking out. Copper doesn't go out without me but durring the day sometimes I let him run off leash while I watch. Those days are over for sure. I cannot believe that it got so close. We have been in this house for years and never have seen any preditory animals until today! Hopefully it was just passing through but still I am freaking out! |
The land that I live on actually has a cave under it and we can hear coyotes alot, but I have never seen one close to the house. Of course when we hear them I tend to go in the house. I don't let Harley outside without a leash unless he is being carried! Jeri and Harley:aimeeyork |
Oh my, that is really scary. You & Cooper be very careful when your outside. |
That is freaky too that you can hear them all the time ...I have not been hearing them but I certainly hope that I don't ever see one in my yard again, still Copper will always be on a leash or in hand from here on out. |
Yeah, we have a ton around here. We use to live on 5 acres at our other house and we let our 2 outdoor dogs roam the property. Once we moved here we had to get a big kennel for them. My 2 girls are very geriatric and the one is deaf. There's no way they'd be safe out there. The coyotes come REAL close to the house. It's freaky...sounds like there's a tribe of screaming indians in my backyard. I always have to flip on the outside lights to scare them off. My BIL keeps telling us that one day he's going to bring a friend over and and thin them out for us. |

Coyotes arent going to bug or harm your dogs, they are more scared of your dogs! My sister inlaw has pomeraniums, we live in wildlife country and they are outside all the time, and they've done nothing to them. there are tones of coyotes around us. they dont even bother our cattle, not even with calves being born. |

They are for the most part, nocturnal. Although, last winter I did seen one in the field while I was standing at my kitchen window. He looked busy...like he was burying something in the snow. It's not unheard of to see them in daylight, but they do most of their hunting after dusk. They are somewhat timid if you seen one by itself, but when they are in a pack they will be more aggressive. I don't know what the hunting laws are in your area, but around here they are so over populated that they are considered varment and as long as you have a hunters permit, you can hunt them. If you have any friends/family that hunt, you may want to consider giving them a call. :) |

A member on another forum I belong to just lost her Maltese to a coyote right before Christmas. Max would just pee on the nearest bush and they were leaving to go out for dinner so they made the mistake of letting him out off leash while they fumbled with the leash for the other Maltese. The coyote was right there by the house and snatched him up. What a horrible, tragic accident. Please don't let your Yorkie off the leash. I'd also carry bear repellent with you as coyotes in California are taking little dogs while their owners are walking them on a leash. |

I had a coyote come and tear my kitty apart. I also have seen and read reports of coyotes snatching small dogs and cats and killing and eating them. I don't want to alarm you, but if you value your animal you would do best to understand that coyotes and large predatory animals ( eagles, owls etc ) WILL come into your yard..they will kill and eat your babies. I'm so not joking here. I would not want you to experience the heartache you would endure if this should happen. |
I understand I am a new puppy owner and live in a residential area on only a 1/2 acre. I had my puppy for one week and was on my deck at 6:30 a.m. and to my surprise walking thru my yard was a Coyote, I was shocked and made my husband get out of bed to make sure I wasn't going crazy. The following month I saw a fox. I am so paranoid now when I walk my dog. |
A person I know in Arizons lost 2 of her 3 Pomeranians to Coyotes!! They left them out to run, no fenced in yard...They were with them though. The dogs ran to go around the house and coyotes got the 2 females. they were 1 and 3 years old. They have the 1 year olds brother left. I'm never going to Arizona!!!! |
