tails? yorkie puppies are born with long tails ....why do people cut their tails? |

LOL, I've often wondered this myself. If my puppy hadn't already had his tail chopped when we picked him out, I probably would have been happy to leave it long and natural. Lauren & Nikko |

Tails have to be docked within a few days off birth, after that its considered a major amputation that requires surgery and other unnescicary pain for the dog. I Asume you plan on keeping the natural tail. |

My Coco and Pebbles have docked tails but my Trixie has a full tail. I call her taily girl. I think it's so cute. It goes crazy when she's happy back and forth. I also like my two with docked tails they are so stubby. I hate to think of the pain they went through when it was cut. They came to me that way. Either way I guess. :aimeeyorkCOCO :aimeeyorkPEBBLES :aimeeyorkTRIXIE |
Caucasian Ovcharkas Have their ears cropped as pups becuase "back in the day" They were used to hunt large animals and protect cattle and other live sstock out in the feilds. They were cropped so that predatoors couldnt garb there ears with there teeth and Pull them to the ground and have a way to manipulate them into surrender. MOst of these dogs now adays Are just used as pets but there ears are still cropped. Why? The look stuck to them, and now it is considered "breed standard" for the dogs ears to be cropped, even though they are in no danger of being dragged to the ground by the ears. Maybe "Back in the day" Yorkies tails were docked to that rats couldnt chew on them? MAybe the people of the mines wanted them to use there tails as "pointer" dogs do? Either way it isnt nesicary these days, they are docked simply for the look. |
i just think its wrong for the breeders to have cut your puppy's tail off without asking... for any puppy and owner |
I watched a documentary on ear cropping and tail docking, it wasnt pretty. I heard the pups screming when they aplied the clamp to dock the tails and it has seriously scarred me for life. I feel so bad that my poor girl went through that to get that little stub on her back. Its quite sad. |

humans hurt dogs too much just for looks... we dont get our ears cropped because it would be painfull....BUT we do it to dogs :S |
My new puppy Bella, does not have her tail docked. The lady I bought her from thought it was inhumane. I love it long myself! SHe is 11 weeks old today. I have had her since she was 8 weeks old |
I believe yorkie tail docking was originally done to prevent the tail from being injured during ratting/hunting. I do think docking makes a yorkie look in balance more so than with natural tails. Also, done early enough and properly there shouldn't be much pain (if any) for the puppy involved. If the breeder were to wait and ask the new puppy owners their preference, it would be too late and would require surgery to be done. We have quite a few YT members with yorkie tails left natural and they are very cute either way. |

Pets are spayed, nuetered, Gelded, FOfr a perfectly legitament reason. TO control pet overpopulatioon. A mal dog smells a intact female, it will stop at nothing to get to her when shes in heat. Risks getting lost, hit by a car etc. Tail docking yorkies tails these days is done without reason. Just for looks. My girl wouldnt have anymore helath issues with a full length tail, but if she wasnt spayed she has a better chance at getting certian cancers, dying during birth, Etc etc. |

And, although the video posted does show the puppy crying out, I believe my son cried more with his first vaccinations. I'm thinking you were more scarred by the tail docking than the puppies were. |
I dunno...the video makes me wish that Missy's tail hadn't been docked. But hey, that's out of my control. It was done before I even met her. I think it's cruel, only because it's done for cosmetic purposes. I'm sure if these puppies could talk, they'd prefer that their tails be left intact. |

That was not my point. Alot of people think its fine to declaw a cat because they dont seem to be in pain. Wrong. ANImals do very well at hiding their pain. Because in the wild, the weakest link of the pack is the most vulnorable to predators etc. I was saying that , not because i think that declawing a cat is the equivelent of docking a dogs tail, but because people think its fine to declaw a cat, but in reality its one of the most painful procedures for a cat, and its like a human cuting there finger off from the first knuckle. NOt very pleasent. |
