One of my babies is registered, the other is not. The female I have had a standard mommy yorkie but the dad was a Biewer. I was told, because of this that I could not register. I am fine with that as my pups are pets not show dogs. But I was just curious how I could find out of this is true. Could it be that the biewer dad has to be registered with AKC first? Anyway, this topic always gets hot but IMO I like the breed as the standard is set. All mine now and future will be docked. |
my little girl must have gotten away durng docking, lol she had 4 brothers, the only thing she didn't miss out on was a scap on her ear, from one of her brothers most likely, lol i like her long tail, i think is it so cute...she is registered too:aimeeyork |

Either way, Biewers cannot be registered with AKC at this point. |

Years ago, I worked on the OB floor of the local hospital and witnessed a number of circumcisions and I am in the room when my puppies have their tails cropped. Believe me, the babies and puppies feel what is going on! My OB and I had several very heated discussions about my wanting to use a local anesthetic on my baby's penis if I decided to circumcise him ... luckily I had 2 girls! Yorkie's tails are cropped because that's the standard, they can still be registered if you decide to not crop, they just cannot be shown in AKC conformation classes. Personally, I feel that cropping is unnecessary but I crop my pups tails because it is the standard. |

Thank you from a 'million puppy yelps in pain' for showing just how beautiful yorkies can be with tails!! I love them all and will never dock another tail (or ears) on any dog! Just my opinion - don't mean to offend anyone! |

Biewers are pure bred yorkies with a gene difference. They are not mixes by any means. There is testing done to prove this because unscrupulous breeders do mix breed to attain that look. There sometimes called Party colored. But real Biewers have the piebald gene (dont ask me to explain it all but there are lots of resources if you google Biewer.) but were created from standard yorkies and there are no other dogs in the mix. Personally, I love my baby but it is crazy to me how they would concentrate on a gene difficiency or change but that is what a biewer is. My Biewer/standard has no white. I prefer the standard yorkies but since the same mommy as my first was the mommy I had to have this puppy! |
Before arriving to my home , Frimousse had a tail . One day , her owner got mad at her and started swinging her by the tail and broke it . The vet had to cut the complete tail . |

I wondered, if it hurt the pups to have their tails cut off. Then I watched video. It is so sad :( |
I can understand that claim completely. I dont know enough about them to say any more than what I have been told. Since I dont show, that is all fine with me. I would not have purchased a Biewer as my personal preference is the standard yorkie but Roscoe is perfect and the breeder said that the last litter for Roscoes mommy was the one with Sparkle in it and because he was healthy and beautiful I took the leap. Now, with some of the reading i have done, the skin issues I have with Sparkle could be because of the Biewer line or could be that her mommy has at a later age developed allergies. Who knows. I know if I am ever in a position to shop for another which wont be anytime soon I will use the breed standard as my guide. Its what I like. |

Thank you, I wasnt real sure but I had thought that I read somewhere that it was possible, thanks for explaining better. |
Ginger has a full tail!.I love her |
My Candy had a docked tail already when we bought her, But my Chuckie has a full lenth tail, it grows lots of hair on the end, so we call it "Chuckie's flag"! -Candy and Chuckie's Mamma |
Funny to come across this today--- I'm a breeder and I hate the practice of tail docking. It is now illegal in most civilized countries, so we're kind of lagging behind in the US. I tried to stop docking altogether but caved in under pressure regarding my show prospects. Today for the first time I had someone decline to come see some puppies I'm selling as pets because they have tails and dewclaws. I found it odd that someone looking for a pet would turn their nose up at attractively priced champion sired puppies with two world champion grand-sires. It's like throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Any of you who are concerned about the practice of tail docking, regarded in Europe as mutilation, should write the AKC and animal rights people in protest. |

I read on Wikipedia (dog tail docking) that in the USA some states, including New York and Vermont have considered bills to make the practice illegal. |

That may be a good thing though. These are the people that dont take having a dog seriously, so by not docking tails, you could very well be filtering out all of the more irresponsible pet owners. |
Response to Magicgenie's post I was the person who declined to view the puppies with the long tails. I felt compelled to reply just to say that I never turned my nose up at the puppies with long tails. I simply declined to view them because I am looking for a puppy with a docked tail. I was upfront and honest with Susan, thanked her for her time, complimented her on the beauty of her dogs, but said that we would not buy a yorkie with a long tail. I could have been discourteous and ceased any communications but I felt that I should tell her that a prospective buyer was no longer interested. I guess being upfront means that I am a snob. This from the breeder who told me that owning my own home was important and that she continues to dock the tails of her elite show hopefuls. As for concerns that I am an irresponsible pet owner because I have a preference for a docked tail, that is ridiculous. Susan and I corresponded enough for her to know that I not only have experience with yorkies being the proud owner of two 8 year old yorkies -- one with serious health concerns -- but that I also have the resources necessary to provide them and another puppy with a GREAT home (yes, that I own), top notch care, and most importantly the love and commitment to them that they deserve. :aimeeyork |
