				   | No accually, you cant. If the parents are registered or not, it cannot be registered if it isnt pure bred. That is what breed standard is all about. |

				   | Well, actually, yes you can. If it is registered w/ C(ontinenal)KC. It isn't registered as a purebred, it's just given a certificate indicating that it is the offspring of 2 registered purebred parents. (You cannot in turn breed that dog though and have those offspring registered.) That is one of the reasons so many disapprove of CKC. Last edited by BamaFan121s; 01-03-2009 at 05:25 PM. |

				   | I wondered, if it hurt the pups to have their tails cut off. Then I watched video. It is so sad

				   | I can understand that claim completely. I dont know enough about them to say any more than what I have been told. Since I dont show, that is all fine with me. I would not have purchased a Biewer as my personal preference is the standard yorkie but Roscoe is perfect and the breeder said that the last litter for Roscoes mommy was the one with Sparkle in it and because he was healthy and beautiful I took the leap. Now, with some of the reading i have done, the skin issues I have with Sparkle could be because of the Biewer line or could be that her mommy has at a later age developed allergies. Who knows. I know if I am ever in a position to shop for another which wont be anytime soon I will use the breed standard as my guide. Its what I like. |

				   | I'm a breeder and I hate the practice of tail docking. It is now illegal in most civilized countries, so we're kind of lagging behind in the US. I tried to stop docking altogether but caved in under pressure regarding my show prospects. Today for the first time I had someone decline to come see some puppies I'm selling as pets because they have tails and dewclaws. I found it odd that someone looking for a pet would turn their nose up at attractively priced champion sired puppies with two world champion grand-sires. It's like throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Any of you who are concerned about the practice of tail docking, regarded in Europe as mutilation, should write the AKC and animal rights people in protest. |

. It looked so painful and she was still bleeding. And to this day, I still don't know why people have their dogs ears docked. I think it looks ugly. Any way, there is my two cents worth.

				   | I read on Wikipedia (dog tail docking) that in the USA some states, including New York and Vermont have considered bills to make the practice illegal.

That may be a good thing though. These are the people that dont take having a dog seriously, so by not docking tails, you could very well be filtering out all of the more irresponsible pet owners. | |

				   | I was the person who declined to view the puppies with the long tails. I felt compelled to reply just to say that I never turned my nose up at the puppies with long tails. I simply declined to view them because I am looking for a puppy with a docked tail. I was upfront and honest with Susan, thanked her for her time, complimented her on the beauty of her dogs, but said that we would not buy a yorkie with a long tail. I could have been discourteous and ceased any communications but I felt that I should tell her that a prospective buyer was no longer interested. I guess being upfront means that I am a snob. This from the breeder who told me that owning my own home was important and that she continues to dock the tails of her elite show hopefuls. As for concerns that I am an irresponsible pet owner because I have a preference for a docked tail, that is ridiculous. Susan and I corresponded enough for her to know that I not only have experience with yorkies being the proud owner of two 8 year old yorkies -- one with serious health concerns -- but that I also have the resources necessary to provide them and another puppy with a GREAT home (yes, that I own), top notch care, and most importantly the love and commitment to them that they deserve. |
