| just because a dog isnt a purebred, does not mean it will automatically be unhealthy, but if you buy from a reputable breeder and the puppies are registered with the CKC (canadian equivilant of AKC) than there is a better chance of having healthy puppies from a breeder that knows about the breed and cares for the parents and puppies to the best of their abilities. a vet will not be able to tell if the dog is a purebred. there is no test that can be administered to finds that out. the only way to know for sure is to have papers to prove it. the "breeder" is the only person that will be able to get you that information. find out if the parents are registered with the CKC and if you can see the papers. it would be up to your parents if they wanted to get the puppy registered also. i am not sure about the pricing in the east, but in ontario, you would not be able to find a registered pup for $800. purbred dogs go for anywhere from $1200 - $2000+ for a purebred puppy, fully registered without breeding rights. if this is just a person that happened to have puppies, it probably isnt likely that the parents are registered, but it wouldnt hurt to ask. |

SOME white on a yorkie is fine. Chip has a small white patch on his chest and is barely visible now. If the white is excessive then it's possible that her yorkies have an "off" gene.

| Buying a back yard breeder puppy is a crap shoot!! The puppy can look healthy now, but alot of Yorkie health problems can show up later, especially with the kind of puppy you are getting. The breeder probably is not knowlegable about Liver Shunts, Leggs Perthes, Luxating Patellas and much more health problems that poorly bred Yorkies can have. And, yes these can happen to well bred Yorkies, but not in the frequency of breeders that just happen to accidentally breed two dogs. Does this "breeder" have a health guarantee? For 800, you should demand one. A reputable breeder will have one. These type of health problems can run into the thousand of dollars.

| a health guarantee would be in the contract between breeder and buyer. most breeders will give a minimum health guarantee for one year. since this is not a breeder you are buying from, there likely will be no contract or health guarantee. |

| No!! She needs to provide you with a health guarantee on that puppy in case any major health problems crop up that she will stand 100% behind that puppy and help out with any major vet bills that may come up in the future.

| ok,the lady is a back yard breeder. that is a term used for people who are not great breeders or very inexperienced who have puppies,etc...a reputable one would have lots of experience, would be knowledgable, test for disease,etc...that is the difference but regardless she is a breeder!

| I think you are taking the first step to being a responsible pet owner! You are asking questions and checking out the breed before you bring this new baby home. There are many many people who don't know the first thing about the pup they just bring it home and go from there. Way to go! I think it is great that you are here and asking questions....Welcome to YT! |
