What other breed of dogs did you get at 6 weeks? I got my Myah at 11 1/2 weeks and did have hypoglicemia problems with her. 6 weeks in a Yorkie is too young to leave mom.

As far as the coloring, Some yorkies are darker in color. That doesn't mean they aren't yorkies. some are darker, some are lighter. Maybe you could go visit again and get some pictures of the pup and the parents? Then if you post them we can look at them and give you a better idea. Since this person isn't really a "breeder" I hope you aren't paying alot for the pup. I know you'll love the puppy either way.

Yorkies look like Rotts or Dobies at birth. All black and tan on legs, under tail and some on the face. If you are unsure if the puppy is a purebred I would look elsewhere. Yorkies usually dont have all black legs down to the toes. Are the puppies registered? If you really like the puppy and the parents and trust the breeder, then buy the puppy. If you want a positivey purebred Yorkie, I would keep looking.

ill like him...but I wanted to make sure it was a purebreed bcz we are paying 800$for him..I think it's expensive if the puppy isn't purebreed:s ...I may have missed the tan on his paws but I'm sure they were all black

while it is not best to get any dogs at six weeks old(due to socialization issues) larger breeds usually are ok HOWEVER due to yorkies size it is not at all ok to get at six weks. 12 is ideal, 10 if they are eating ok and are reasonably sized...if you look at some recent threads,you will see hypoglycemia is a huge prob with the breed. Please do not take this baby so young,it is just not safe for them and will cause you much heartache!

oh and we got a s**tzu and poodle/terrier at 6 weeks...my grandma got her teacup Pomeranian at 6 weeks also

Are the parents registered? Are the pups going to be registered? I'm not sure what the price ranges are in Canada, but if the parents aren't registered and the people that have them just let the breed, you could be looking at health problems down the road. If you do get the pup....ask the people to keep the puppy till at least 10 weeks.

The 12 week rule of thumb may be a good one but did not apply in my case. We got Gracie at 8 weeks but she weighed 2 pounds and now is over one year old and is over 10 pounds. Maybe that is what made the difference but we did not have any problems with her and she is happy, healthy and very well adjusted. If the puppy is smaller it would probably be a good idea to leave it with the mom until it's closer to the 12 week age.

Gracie had a lot more black as a puppy that she does now. Some people have posted they're dog changing to silver at just a few months old but Gracie didn't start changing until around one year old. Just like people they're all different.....

its very good you came to this forum, the people here are very experienced with yorkies and have helped me so much,also another tip,there is no such thing as a teacup anything,anyone using that term is not a reputable breeder. Just though you may want to kno since u said something about a teacup anyway,you have been lucky there are no probs getting them so young, as far as the white,may bailee as a lil but it is slowly fading to tan. She has akc registered parents so I kno she is purebred,maybe it will fade like hers...make sure you have a healthy pup and ask about genetic issues since you arent getting her from a breeder.(breeders usually screen for these things)Personally I think $800 is a bit much without champion lines or anything.Will their be any health screening?

I don't know what registered mean?...and the lady said something about shots and vet to my mom...and she's giving us the mothers blanket...I'm also thinking about bringing a stuffed animal and rub it on the mother for the smell...it might help for the missing his mother part

i just noticed you are from Canada so I do not kno what organization is equivalent to the AKC.Im sure someone will come along that knows. But registered means the parents have papers proving the are purebred. I really do not think I would pay $800 for a puppy that is being allowed to leave its mother at 6 weeks and is not an experienced breeder. There are defects that can cost quite a bit in the future that need to be screened for...

It sounds like you are pretty convinced you are getting this dog at 6 weeks, whether it is purebred or not. I have doubts that is purebred based on what you've said about the breeder. Good luck with the puppy. I can't imagine the problems you're going to encounter, but I hope things work out for you.

Some people just get so convinced what they do or think is right and that nothing else will work, and there's no use working so hard to convince them otherwise. They have said multiple times 6 weeks is old enough, when it definitely is not. If you truly want a purebred dog, go to dog shows, and find a good breeder. If you have any doubt it probably is not the place to buy from. It just sounds like you believe the breeder knows what shes doing, when I don't think she is, but either way I hope things work out for you.

no she doenst have papers.. But my mom said she would ask the vet if our pup is a purebreed...can they tell those things? Cuz if they can and he's not purebreed my moms gonna ask for money back

there really is no other way to tell i dont think,someone please correct me if i am wrong...not trying to be harsh but maybe you should research the breed a bit,everyone here would be glad to help and try to find a reputable breeder. you can find a healthy purebred dog with papers for that price! it wil be better in the long run,trust me!
