| Just wanted to say welcome to YT...and congratulations on getting a new puppy! Winston, my boy...was very dark as a pup...also with white "twinkle toes". His body is still very dark...his face is lighter, he is now 4 years old, almost 5....I personally like the looks of the darker Yorkie. We brought him home at 8 weeks, he never had hypoglycemia as a puppy. He was a whiz to house train...totally trained the very first day. My suggestion: When you bring your puppy home, take him to where ever you WANT him to potty in the future and put him down and wait...you may have to wait awhile but he will eventually go potty...then throw a party, praise him, love on him, give him treats...what ever it takes for him to know you are pleased and happy that he went potty. He will then learn where to go...to get that same reaction. DO NOT LET HIS PAWS TOUCH YOUR FLOORS BEFORE HE HAS GONE POTTY WHERE YOU WANT HIM TO. Honest, it works! Good luck and enjoy your puppy...he needs a name!!!

| Welcome to YT! I just joined YT in October & bought both of my boys from BYB...not knowing it wasn't a good thing to do. HOWEVER, they are both wonderful dogs. The smallest one has a collapsed trachea but is doing great, the bigger one doesn't have any problems. I'm anxious to see pics of your new family addition. Then maybe we can help you with a name! PS - I WISH my French was as good as your English! Last edited by luvfla; 12-28-2008 at 05:51 AM. |

| Vickii, I am feeling bad for you with all of the pushing that you are getting from people on here. After all you were only inquiring about information that you wanted to know. You did not want your breeder condemed and put down. Most people on this forum think that your have to be perfect . People do make mistakes and shouldnt be critized for it. Don't judge!! I do agree that 6 wks is young to get your puppy. Here in my state it is illigal to sell a puppy before 8 wks of age. Not everyone has the right answers. Not every one is an expert, like they would lead you to believe. Just take the good advise and leave the critis to them self. Good luck with your puppy . Know that there are some good advise on this forum just pick and choose. |

"Breeders fit into categories and like any business there are levels of desirability. There are the high profile professionals, those who exhibit and advertise regularly being dedicated fanciers, and then there are the “Mom and Pop” breeders who have litters just a few times also known as “back yard breeders (BYBs)”. " I'm not sure there are enough professional breeders to meet the demand for Yorkies. There are also pet stores, brokers, & puppy mills below the above pecking order.

| I got my Brandy at 6 weeks from a BYB. I didn't know any better and didn't discover this web site until after I got her. She is a great little dog with no health problems so I guess I got lucky. One thing to consider though, the breeder is avoiding vet costs by giving you the puppy so young. A dog that leaves the mom at 12 weeks has most likely had all its shots. This 6 week old puppy will still need all its shots so the couple hundred bucks saved by buying from an inexperienced BYB will quickly be spent getting it's shots anyway. Basically I'm saying that this $800 puppy could cost more with the additional vet expenses even if it has no issues than a $1200 12 week old puppy purchased from an experienced breeder. My little Brandy worked out fine and I wouldn't trade her for the world but had I known then what I know now I would have done things a bit differently.

| One of the parents carries the tri colored, or Parti yorky gene... not a big deal, most white will fade by the time the puppy is 6 months old... funny I paid BIG money to get the parti gene.. lol |

| Tri colored Yorkies are black and Gold, so most likely you will have a black and gold pup If the sire had white on him, you got a parti carrier puppy. No big deal, as I said I paid big bucks for my carriers and Partis. I also agree that 6 weeks is too young, but sounds like you have experience in getting pups that young, so you'll know what to do. |

| The best way to get info on your new little addition is to do just as you are...Ask questions and read as much as you can before you bring your baby home. Like I said before you are taking the first step to being a responsible yorkie owner. There are so many wonderful people here that can give you great advice! Take the good, the bad and maybe the ugly and learn from it... I personally think that this little guy will have a wonderful home with you! I can't wait for you to post pictures... |
