| YT 1000 Club Member | With Roxie we had a health guarantee but it was only for a certain period of time. She had gotten sick before that but there was no way I was taking her back. I nursed her back to health with good vet care. Sometimes you see a puppy and it's love at first site. I should have demanded half of my money back (live and learn) at least. But I was so caught up in the moment of getting her well that the last thing I was thinking about was all of that other stuff. |

Well..I don't know about starting any new breeds...yikes! But...it really is fascinating! Cookie came to me from a shelter...I always felt she was either a mix or just not well bred. She is amazingly intelligent and quite the character. We nicknamed her Cookie Monster! She looks like a yorkie. Weighs about 13 pounds...has a wiry, curly coat. Docked tail...Heaven only knows why! She is adorable...has hair that sticks out all over and droops off of her ears. Here is her pic: | |

| I know you can't wait to get him home. I would see if you can go and visit from time to time before he comes home. That way you can see him as he grows and maybe take some pictures. Make sure you do all the research you can. You are off to a good start by coming here. Make sure you plan on feeding him a good quality dog food. Look for a food with out corn, wheat or soy. Something without by-products. Have your parents start looking at dog food that is available and read ingredients. Hopefully you'll get off to a good start with your new puppy. Good luck!!! |

I am guessing but you sound like a young girl who went along with your mom to look at a puppy so really this puppy isn't even your decision. From what I read your mom sounds like she has made up her mind to pruchase this puppy. It does not sound like you have not done a lot of research on purchasing a puppy other than the price or you would be able to answer all of these questions without doubt. Looking at a few pictures on line or deciding to just ask the vet afterward if not how to look for a puppy. I personally would not give this woman $800 just because she let her dogs have a litter. I also believe in spay and neutering all my animals. It sounds like that is not the case in your family. If you do decided to bring this puppy home I do hope you plan to neuter so there are no accident at your home as well. There are a lot of people that say they are breeders and spout about breed standard blah blah. IMO just because you go to a someone that has multiple litters does not guarantee you anything. There are plenty of people right here on YT that ended up with 11 lb or larger yorkies, various health issues and not able to collect on a health guarantees. Anyone can talk the talk but many are not able to walk the walk when the time comes. There are many, many posts about just this subjects if you do a search. It's all just a roll of the dice for the majority of people who purchase unless you really know someone's breeding program long term. If this was regulated better there wouldn't be so many unwanted animals in shelters and they are the lucky ones.

| Vickie...let me say im very proud of you for coming on this forum and asking questions...you have already seen that some are very concerned about yorkies...some say it nice some dont.... congrats on your new addition....and you will have lots of great memories with him....i may have missed this....but what is his name gonna be? i didnt even really know what a yorkie was when i got Smokey almost 2 years ago...so dont worry...just read....there are lots of great info on the internet... not sure if you found out if he is staying there till he is at least 8-10 weeks or not....if not ....please dont let him around the other dogs in your home till he is a little older...he could get sick from them even if they dont act sick..cause they are older and their bodies can handle things that at that young of an age he would not be able to handle....on that note: get some light karo syrup...these widdle guys do have low blood sugar problems from time to time...if you see him getting a little shaky or not acting his normal active self...put a little on the end of your finger and make him lick it off....that will be enough to get him through it........... get pee pads................and leave them down long enough for him to smell his business on it..that way he will keep going on them....... if you are getting him really early...then you need to either put a ticking clock in with him or find a toy that has a heartbeat sound in it...that way he feels like someone is with him and he dont feel too lonely...... play with him alot when you are awake...the more attention you give him the faster he will addjust to his new home...... please feel free to pm me at anytime...if i can help in anyway i will be more than happy to again congrats on your soon to be new addition to your family
