Well, I certainly agree with you it's not fair to attack people for owning these dogs. I guess I overlook certain posts that are filled with hatred; I think the majority of members are very accepting to all breeds, it only when talking about the breeders themselves, and some of their practices that things tend to get very heated. Many of us get extreemly emotional when talking about puppy mills and other unethical "greeders."

| I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with cross breeding dogs-a lot of the "pure bred" dogs we have today came from the crossing of other breeds. In fact, the Yorkie himself came from a cross breeding of at least four other terrier groups. As long as the breeder is a responsible one, the same as I would expect from a pure bred breeder, I dont see the harm in it and in fact I think its great. And I believe that there is a difference between a "designer dog" and a "mutt". Designer Dog infers that the cross was a planned thing, had thought behind it, and was executed by a trained breeder. Mutt, on the other hand, just happens to be a mixed breed dog that you don't know what it is mixed with. Do you notice that when a person who has a dog and knows the breed(s) they will say "Yes this is my german shepard-pit bull mix," or, "This is my Maltipoo". They don't say "This is my mutt" - Unless of course they don't know what he/she's breed(s) are. Even that is usually quickly followed by "But he looks like he has some poodle in him, doesn't he?" No one has to necessarily save up for an expensive pure bred dog. I wanted a pure bred Yorkie and that's what I got. But I have also been the owner of a Shih-tzu-poodle and he was so smart and so wonderful and the breeder was great-lived on a huge farm with horses and the dogs and animals were so happy and healthy. He is 10 years old today and still plays like a puppy- thats all that matters. A Healthy Happy dog, and those come from GOOD breeders, not necessarily EXPENSIVE or PURE BRED breeders. Okay im done know... takes huge breath.

1. New member comes on posts adorable picture of new puppy, states puppy was purchase @ so and so breeder happily sharing information 2. A flurry of responses stating the puppy is from a puppymill, bad breeding etc., check USDA (which is true information but the delivery $uck$) 3. OP is now in tears and confused at response of their beloved puppy and they now have the realization that it is from the horror of a puppymill etc. 4. Responses continue to OP 5. OP is now heated at this warm 'reception' and the information that just bombarded at them and leave YT never to return. There is a way to present this information and a way to totally alienate someone into leaving with the idea that not only is their puppy not what they though but it is an inferior breed. I have seen this on many occasions.

| Oh, I see, so it's more the way post are interpreted that upsets you. Speaking generally--I thought it was something specific on this thread...somewhere that someone was attacked for owning a dog. I hate to see people upset because of the way something was interpreted myself. |

There are a lot of passionate people in this group but sometimes their passion might become intimidating to others. There have been plenty of things in this thread that are upsetting to me personally but that I do not wish to discuss further as I do not want to debate this topic. I understand that a fact is a fact but the presentation is the issue.

| I have no clue, I just saw a post and replied to part of it. I was being lazy and didn't feel like going back to read how it started.

Generally speaking, I think everyone has specific issues that they are more sensitive to when compared to the next. There have been times when I read something and wonder why people got so upset over it and likewise there have been times where I read something and wonder why on one reacted at all. I also think there are specific topics that some of us get tired of seeing...I know there are times I read something or comment and think, "Gee, I wish I had a dollar for everytime this was said..." I just try to remember, for someone it may be the first time they've read about the subject and it may be anew concept to them. Last edited by BamaFan121s; 08-29-2008 at 04:20 PM. | |

| This may be a flawed analogy, but go with me for a minute. If I were to log on to a site just like this called CorvetteTalk, and announce that I have just taken a perfectly good Corvette apart and reassembled it with parts from a Mustang, and I'm ready to have everyone accept my new creation as equal to the pure, numbers matching, Corvettes they all love to discuss, endlessly in esoteric mind numbing detail. I'm diving into a pool of devoted Corvette fanatics asking them to endorse something they absolutely do not approve of, in fact it fly's in the face of the purist notions they live to espouse. The most devoted will simply recoil at the notion of desecrating their beloved Corvette by mixing it with parts of another car. Now if I went to a site where they discuss building completely custom cars, no rules, the design and end product are all that matters....I could expect to be well received. They don't have the protection of their one true love at heart. They live for and love the new creation, the thrill of something not seen before. It's simply a different mentality, a different set of social rules.

I have been looking around at other forums and unfortunately with some of the posters on here, YT has a quite a bad reputation for attacking people. It was shocking to see other post at these forums about this. I do not believe the intent is to chase away people and only to educate others but there is a fine line.

A lot of the mean spirited things I read here is more about control. Somehow they feel empowered by bashing others. Sad..huh? I think a lot of them think they can chase people away by getting up their bandstand and saying the same things over and over. Anyone before choosing their puppy...be it a purebred or cross should check out the breeder. Everyone has a right to choose the kind of puppy they want. AND be proud of that puppy. To compare a puppy to a car....is like saying a Morkie or cross bred dog owner shouldn't be here, is NOT what I think YT is about. I cant believe how off topic this thread went... I feel sorry...as I always do for the OP.
