Unfortunately, the only way to answer all those "what if's" you speak of is to try. That's how you'll know this mix will work out, or that it won't. It's trial and error, and I'm assuming that's how our yorkies were developed. Trial and error until the traits that they were looking for were becoming consistent in their lines. Just an opinion since I wasn't there when the breed was developed

You are correct, that's the only way...with careful research as to what factors could pair up for problems in the offspring. The problem is, how many times have you ever seen that stated as a goal and as something that breeders of crossbred dogs focus on? Rarely--the crosses don't usually last more than one generation, just produced to supply what the current market demands...so the point of would be lost.

As for the guy raising English Bulldogs...kudos to him and I'm sure he's doing it as a business...not a hobby. Sorry if I offended you and wasn't meant thay way. This is why I usually don't like replying to thread or emails is because so much is interpreted and usually the wrong WAY. I do enjoy reading what others write....

I thought you were directing your questions at me! Sorry I misinterpreted your post!! I hope I explained things so that people could understand that the costs are variable and the price of puppies is also. The start up costs are the most. Its usually a huge chunk of $$. Most people dont get to see the big picture that breeders go through on a daily basis. All they see are dollar signs when they are allowed to buy without spay/neuter/AKC limited contracts. For some unknown reason people feel the need to reproduce their little pet quality dog, paying no attention to health issues or breed standards. And yes, the bulldog breeder is a business only.

I agree with you and even go further... Planing is the key to successful breeding even among purebreds. How many pure breds end up on a shelter because they came from people that had not a clue of what lines they were crossing? Same go for crossed breeds and all... i have a real hard time with puppy mills and indiscriminate breeding, over breeding and all inbreeding to produce looks but compromise health. I Also noticed that the tiny toy mixes are very much in demand and people who gets them , keeps them. I would say that the accidental "pit bull" mixes and large breed mixes that we see on the ponds are the real problem. Not that i would agree with the word "designer" to be used for tiny puppies, but these we do not see on shelters all the time. Nothing wrong with a litter that will be loved and stay forever in their homes.... but to breed with bad planning and have the dogs eventually turn out at a pond is shameful irresponsible behavior.

Sometimes when we write a thread or reply and use common words like "you" it don't always mean you personally....I accept the apology. And, I do understand exactly what you mean by the costs, I personally spent alot of $, paid alot of vet/care costs including a C-section and would take several litters to eventually make some $ back on the $ invested. But, I didn't do it just to breed, but also to simply enjoy them as my companion. One of my dogs will follow me around and alot of times will lay by my shoes or where it can smell my scents....bonded very much to me. Thanx for your explanations and for being thoughtful.

i have read on yt that any female needing a csection should be spayed and not bred again.. i am sure there are exceptions.. but free whelping should be
the norm for breeding.. so that is another consideration and expense to be considered.. we may plan to breed a female, but mother nature throws a curve ball.. consider the best options for the pet first.. it should never be about the money.. plus.. if you have any defects show up, then the dog should be fixed and not bred again, the whole breeding plan can be in jeopardy and halted if the puppies or the mom have problems.. then the investment in breeding goes up again as you make these decisions.. we might have a plan, but something may happen to change the PLAN..

Oh wow 300$ for a Csection. It is 800.00 Here.
My vet care for my female for pregnancy was 1,000. That did not include care for the babies. ( that was Emma)

This time Gracie had 1 baby, The baby got sick and cost over 500.00
Now add Gracie's care. Shots EEKK BUT at 8 weeks the baby is the picture of health That makes it worth it.

There is no such thing as a quick profit in breeding. Not if you provide the care they all need.

In my situation, she did whelp one pup "free", but then her labor slowed up...maybe it was a fluke...maybe not. I won't know unless I do breed her again. Chances you take when you breed. Just my thoughts.

There are more factors than soley weight that can result in a c-sections.

Any time any female is ever bred...you are taking a chance on her health or well being and/or the resulting puppy or puppies.

i can see trying one more time.. maybe with a smaller stud...
but the 2nd time she should be spayed... taking chances might not be worth the risk
but .. is free whelping harder after a section... ?? in women, there are increased risks... should be the same high risk for the dog.. i dont know.. just asking... trying to learn

That being said.
I am the proud owner of 3 Morkies along with my Yorkies.

I proudly breed healthy beautiful Morkies with my girlfriends 2 male Morkies.
Over and over again I get emails from my puppies owners telling me this is the best dog they have ever had.
I also have family members or friends writing me wanting one, after being around a Morkie.

They know what kind of breeder I am...How I love my dogs and babies
Its not about the money. These are truly wonderful little dogs

I have a yorkie poodle mix and a yorkie maltese mix, so i obviously have no problem with mixed breeds as long as it is done in a humane way. Im actually thinking of staring a mixed yorkie website since i havent seen too many. Keep everyone updated!!
