What Does Everyone Think of Morkie/YorkiePoos?

The woman I got Roxy from, who is a GREAT breeder, she is very kind and loves her animals very much which is one of the reasons I thought I should go back to her. Well, she has 2 male Yorkies, that will probably go fast, but she also has a few Morkies and Yorkiepoo's. Now, I wanted to know what everybody thought of them? As long as they don't get too big (since Roxy is so small I dont want anything that would hurt her or overbear her or else I wouldnt care), and I want them to be the color of a Yorkie... So what does everybody think?? Do you think this could be a good decision? I could give them some good love And I know Roxy doesnt really care who she plays with, as long as they're fun! What do you guys think? Your opinion matters to me, I'm sure some of you guys know or have, or have had Yorkiepoo's or Morkies.

To the OP, if you want a morkie or a yorkiepoo than get one. It is your preference, not anyone else's. Just like some like Great Danes and some like Chihuahuas, it is all a preference.

And for $250 the price is great. It is the price you would pay for a rescue anyways.


I do know that the shelters here very rarely have small breed dogs coming in. When they do, they go fast as they have a super long waiting list. So if I myself wanted to get a small mixed breed around here, it mostly likely wouldn't be from a rescue.
By the way, I would like to point out that there are just as many mixes in shelters as there are purebreds. The purebreds just get snatched up a lot quicker.

I do have a mix. A yorkiepoo, my Trixie. She is one of the best dogs I have ever owned. She has such a wonderful personality, and is the smartest dog in the household. I wouldn't change a thing about her and I am very glad I got her, I have no regrets with her.

I don't know how close they are to the "Yorkie SHOW Standard" BUT they are Beautiful, healthy, gentle puppies who have been loved and raised in their home.

I have also bred my 3 AKC Non "show dogs"
And LOVED these puppies ...So much so that after having them in my home for 12 weeks I find it very very hard to sell them.
I've researched and read all I could get my hands on before ever thinking about breeding them.

I've had to handfeed babies, these I got so attached to I couldn't sell...lol
I've had one baby get stuck in the birth canal.
I lost that one. Thank God mama was OK.
But I consider myself and some others to be very caring educated breeders.
And if they are not educated THATS why some read and post here as I have and other forums.

They really don't need to have someone put them down for it ......
The breeders who offer insight and tools to learn are A+ in my book.
And theres many on here, because I learn something new almost everyday!

That being said I also have 2 Morkies and they are loved every bit as much as my Yorkies.

Well just to clarify my opinion- I think dogs should only be bred by breeders who love the breed and want to uphold it. I think the mixes are adorable and I can totally understand why someone would want one. The problem is the pet population (in the US anyway) is completely out of control. If the only breeders were breeders of potential show quality dogs there would be very few breeders and think how many dogs' lives would be saved. It probably wouldn't take more than a year or so to clear out our shelters. I don't want to see any of out beautiful established breeds die off but we could have both. Beautiful breeds and empty shelters. I know this isn't going to happen but the possibility is why I would never support mixing.

My comment on puppymills is you can't label everything you don't agree with as a puppymill. It dilutes the seriousness of it. For example, Hha's sister sounds like she was a very caring person toward her dogs. So if I don't like mixing and I tell someone she's a puppymill- they think, well that's not so bad, she loves her dogs and they are taken care of so if that's a puppymill, why not buy from a pet store? BYBs are NOT puppymills and throwing the word around just confuses and potentially hurts the situation.

I was going to say about the mixes tending to be smarter, but, thought I best not, but, since you said it first, I do have to agree, all the mixed dogs I've been around, do tend to pick up things much quicker than purebreds..

Every mix we ever had when I was growing up was MUCH easier to train than my yorkies. Luckily, if that's your preference, you can visit any shelter and save a life at the same time.

LOL I think my biewer is a mix, and I know my shih tzu was(she learned how to roll over in 5 min)..LOL Anyway, I think with 6 right now, that's got to be my limit..but, now, if they call and say they got a yorkie in at the shelter, then I would have to have 7...

Lacy was bought over 3 years ago. I've said before that I didn't know nearly as much as I do now back then. I knew about puppymills and I knew about show breeders...didn't know a whole lot about backyard breeders. When I was given Lacy, I was so excited to have a puppy that I didn't care where she came from. As she started to get older, I realized her hair wasn't growing like it should be, it was coarser than it should be, and then she ended up having LP...even though I love her to death, it frustrates me that she may have to have surgery one day because of bad breeding & also frustrates me that she doesn't have the gorgeous yorkie hair like a yorkie should. I joined some pet forums and started to educate myself. It's amazing how much someone can learn in three years once they choose to educate themselves. Being on pet forums for the past three years, I've read so many terrible stories of dogs with health issues coming from, not puppymills, but backyard breeders. I see so many threads where people say "I just bought this yorkie puppy...is it a purebred yorkie?"...sad they bought from a breeder they can't trust. I guess everyone is uneducated until someone enlightens them...I guess that's why I feel the need to try and educate others

I agree with all of this too. I in no way want to loose our purebred dogs...but if only reputable breeders were breeding, then there would be a lot less purebreds & mixes in shelters dieing every day. And I also agree with your statement about puppymills. There is normally a big difference between puppymills and backyard breeders...don't agree with either, but there is a difference.
