What Does Everyone Think of Morkie/YorkiePoos?
 

The woman I got Roxy from, who is a GREAT breeder, she is very kind and loves her animals very much which is one of the reasons I thought I should go back to her. Well, she has 2 male Yorkies, that will probably go fast, but she also has a few Morkies and Yorkiepoo's. Now, I wanted to know what everybody thought of them? As long as they don't get too big (since Roxy is so small I dont want anything that would hurt her or overbear her or else I wouldnt care), and I want them to be the color of a Yorkie... So what does everybody think?? Do you think this could be a good decision? I could give them some good love :D And I know Roxy doesnt really care who she plays with, as long as they're fun! What do you guys think? Your opinion matters to me, I'm sure some of you guys know or have, or have had Yorkiepoo's or Morkies.

Well, considering in my family, out of 40 dogs, there are 6 that are morkies, and they're really cool...:)

Any breeder doing this is not an ethical breeder.. they are puppy mills... The nitch filling for small breed dogs other than purebred should be at your local pound or rescues... We have an over population of unwanted dogs and cats.. Sorry but this is really disturbing to see happening.. I know which ever dog you get you'll give it loving home...:)

That's good to hear! It makes me feel a lot better. I just want someone to play with Roxy, and if I find a small one that's the colors of a Yorkie, I will probably invest... And if I have a couple that I am thinking about... I'll take pictures and show you guys!!! :D And you can give me advice! Tell me whatcha think!

Of course mixes are cute. I love all dogs. But I will never condone breeding mixes on purpose. Any breeder that breeds mixes purposely is NOT a reputable breeder :thumbdown What's the purpose in breeding mixes? They are not a breed & don't have a standard so you can't breed "to improve the breed" which is the main reason to even think about breeding. The people breeding these dogs are not breeding for any purpose and are not trying to create a new breed - they are only breeding these dogs because they are unfortunately a fad right now and are selling for so much money. Reputable breeders breed to improve the breed & because they love the breed - no reputable breeder breeds mixes. And these "designer dogs" are NOT healthier than purebreds as some like to say. Many of our toy breeds share common genetic defects so these mixes are just as likely to get them as a purebred. You have a much higher chance of getting a healthy dog if you go to a reputable breeder that health screens their dogs. Any breeder (of purebreds or mixes) that doesn't screen their dogs has a higher chance of getting puppies with genetic defects. There is just no way I would support someone breeding mixes. There are so many unwanted animals in this world - millions die each year - and all these byb's are just contributing the the overpopulation. There are so many purebreds and "designer" mixes in shelters and rescue groups right now. If I wanted a mixed breed dog, I would adopt on through a rescue - but I can not condone those that breed them. If you want a mix, please adopt one that needs a home. Same things with a purebred I guess...I've seen you say that you don't care if your yorkie has papers - so why not adopt one? Please don't support bad breeders...find a reputable breeder that breeds for the right reasons or adopt one that needs a home.

I don't think she necessarily bred them "on purpose"... And besides, what's done is done, they are babies now, and they deserve a home just as much as any other little dog. If I can love them, then I guess there's no problem. I don't believe in "breeding just to breed", but she breeds Maltese's, Yorkie's, & Poodles. She loves them all, and they are usually seperated. Before she only had Yorkie's and Maltese's last time I was there.... Besides, every breed we know now came from wolves and it came from cross breeding throughout thousands of years, so we wouldnt have all the gorgeous breeds we have now if it wasn't for ppl trying this. These puppies deserve a home just like any other dog, and if I am willing to give them one, I don't understand why it hurts? She is selling them for a lot less than the purebred simply because she doesnt want to just give them away because she doesnt want anybody just taking them home, but they are a decent price of 250, while her Yorkies are 800. So I think thats a pretty big price difference, she loves her dogs, and takes good care of them. Theyre very clean, and she is a very kind person. So, I think I'm not doing a necessarily terrible thing :D

That's why I would be wary of buying from a breeder that breeds more than one breed of dog... honestly, 'accidents" shouldn't be allowed to happen. Those that choose to breed need to be responsible. And if she's got maltese/yorkie mix and yorkie/poodle mix puppies right now, that means the made a mistake at least twice... If they truly were accidents and she doesn't intend to let it happen again, then I don't see the harm in adopting one of her mixes...but if she plans to continue breeding them, then no way would I buy one. Yes, they are here and deserve a home, but you've got to make sure you aren't tempting a breeder to continue breeding unethically. I sure hope she's selling these puppies on a spay/neuter contract and makes sure these mistakes don't happen again.

Yes, many of our breeds came about due to mixing other breeds. But these breeds were developed with a goal and purpose in mind. People weren't just sticking two dogs together to make puppies and giving them a silly name. People breeding mixes aren't developing a new breed...they are only breeding 1st generation crosses. I highly doubt you'll see any of these mixes become their own breed...none of these breeders are pushing for that or even trying to make these dogs breed true.

I just noticed you said you wanted one with yorkie coloring. With a mix, you have no idea how they will turn out as an adult. I've seen several yorkie mix puppies that started out looking like a yorkie and ended up with completely different colored hair. I do know of one maltese/yorkie mix that looks just like a yorkie, but ears are down and the tan is almost white. I know of a shihtzu/yorkie mix that started out black and tan and ended up being all a reddish color. I know of several maltese/yorkie mixes that started out with yorkie colors and grew to be almost white. And I've seen yorkie/poodle mixes of all colors. So you may pick out a puppy that looks like a yorkie, but it could grow to look nothing at all like one with a completely different colored coat.

In the long run, I believe I will go with a Yorkie. Unless I find the perfect Morkie/Yorkiepoo that Roxy no doubt gets along with and is going to be a good size... If I dont find what I want in them, then I will go for a Yorkie. It was never my goal to get a cross breed. I just exercised the idea because I knew Connie had some and I am going to visit today to take Roxy to see her and to look at her last two little boy Yorkie's, and the other little babies. I am not sure what I will decide. I might just wait until she has another Yorkie litter. Or I might just keep looking. I probably won't make a decision anyways until I get my Tax Return back. So, that'll be about a month, but when I do, I am definitely getting another baby... Most likely, a Yorkie. I am not sure if I even want a boy or a girl yet. I have a name already picked out for a boy... But I like the idea of Roxy having a little girl Best Friend.

My answer...I think that each breed should be bred with the exact same breed...no mixing. JMO

Regardless of what anyone's opinions on mixing is, people really need to stop throwing the word puppymill around. They are a real problem and you are diluting the seriousness by labeling anyone who's breeding practices you don't like as a puppymill. Google puppymills and you will see that they are not simply uneducated or careless breeders- puppymills are evil on a mass scale. The issue is not helped in any way when people use the word so flippantly. I'm seeing this a lot lately and it's aggravating.

Yikes..tough question..of course the mix of yorkie and maltese is cute..but all puppies are cute really. I just rescued a Shorkie (shih tzu/yorkie) and she is adorable yes...but I wouldnt breed her just to get more cute puppies...I dont think her dogs being bred were "accidents"...accidents happen once and she has more than one mixed breed going on there. I know the price is enticing too..its up to you though and I will support any decision you make..

I love all dogs :) but there is no way you can guarantee the color of morkies as adults...They all look different. Of course there are some that may look similar, but if you look at each of the pups even in one litter, they will probably all look different.
If you love yorkies, then I would say to get a yorkie from a reputable breeder who breeds to standard. If you want a maltese, then I would say to purchase a maltese from a reputable breeder.
