| ![]() hmmm...MY sister purchased a yorkie last summer at 6 weeks old! I told her I thought that was waaay too young. Apparently I was right. Her puppy seems healthy and all, but she's kind of aggressive. Shis five months old and barks and growls at my sister. My sister has to pin her down around 25 times a day to show dominance. I wonder if bringing her home too early has something to do with this ![]() |

| ![]() 6 WEEKS? Oh my goodness. That's way too young. Puppies need to learn to socialise with other dogs, they learn this up until about 12 weeks of age. I picked Suzy up at 8 weeks, she was very healthy & vet checked. She came home and we instantly started socialising her with my other 2 dogs (who had a clean bill of health and were all up to date with their injections so they wouldn't pass anything onto the pup or vice versa.) They need to learn how to interact with other dogs, if they don't it can cause problems in the future. If I decide to breed I won't be letting the pups go until 12 weeks, I've decided already. My Mum used to breed Maltese pups so she knows what she's doing in a way, and she'll be helping me, but they're still very young and tender up until that age. It's for the best for both them and the skin family they're going into. |

| ![]() Something else, I forgot to add it to the other post I made. My boyfriend's mother (silly, silly woman who should NEVER own pets) bought a Yorkie for her daughter when my bf was very young so he can't remember exactly what age it was but he knows it wasn't 2 months old yet. She bought it home when it was very tiny, left it in a BIRDCAGE overnight so it couldn't wander around and in the morning it had died. It's both her fault and the person she bought it from, it was obviously not old enough to leave the mother and this woman has NO idea about proper puppy/dog care. This woman also fed my bf's Corgi a COOKED CHICKEN CARCUS as it was dinner leftovers. The dog died a few days later. ![]() |

| ![]() As far as flying, I think it should depend on the size of the puppy, but now I got my first yorkie at 6 weeks, never had a bit of trouble out of her..I have gotten dogs at all different ages, I prefer to get them around 6-7 weeks..If you are flying a german shepherd or golden retriever, bigger dog, 6-7 weeks would be good, yorkie I would say around 10 weeks to fly..imo |

| ![]() Where are you and where is your breeder? I would have them put a microwabable heating pad in ... it is awfully cold a lot of places now... too cold to ship a puppy period.... unless in the deep south and the breeder too. however, bigger breeds can go at younger ages.... but like Virginia... there are state laws stating they can not be sold before 12wks old. |

My furkids Donating Member | ![]() Most states it's ilegal to sell a puppy under 8 weeks. And yorkies are so small I would think older would be better. I tried to access the site you posted, I couldn't bring up the pics. As for teacup Cavalier???? This is one of the breeds I researched before getting yorkies and I never heard of a teacup Cavalier...I would tell your friend to be careful with this one.....When a breeder uses the word teacup for a breed that doesn't have teacups...I would be a little concerned.. JMO I wish her luck!

| ![]() One other thing, to the OP-- Please keep in mind that in regards to what age to release a pup, there are many factors regarding development and socialization to consider as well. The size of the pup is not/should not be the only determining factor on when it is safe for the pup to leave the breeder. ![]() |

| ![]() I think alot to do with the socialization has to do with whos getting the dog(if there are other dogs there), of course, I got my shih tzu at 6 weeks of age, and she was here by herself, never had any socialization problems with her, heck, I have never had any with any of the dogs I've gotten actually...Haley, the older yorkie I got at 6 weeks, has been one of the best dogs I've ever had, she never chewed on me or anything else. Now, the one I got that just turned 17 weeks, I got her at 11 weeks, and although, she doesn't chew on furniture, etc. she bites the chit out of my hands..I think sometimes, staying with their litter mates longer, they learn to play rougher and can sometimes be harder to break of bad habits(imo) |

| ![]() I would be comfortable taking a Cavalier home at 8 or 10 weeks. I got Ellie at about 8 weeks and I regret it because it is just too young for a Yorkie. I don't think any reputable Yorkie breeder sells their pups any younger than 9 or 10 weeks.

| ![]() hha--I get what you are saying. There are two sides to the theory regarding socialization and age. IMO, BOTH opinions on release age should be examined by anyone getting a new pup (or breeders deciding when to place one) in order to make an educated decision. ![]() |

| ![]() 6 weeks is far too young! they need their mother for as long as possible! 12 weeks is the best age in my opinion. my pixie came to me at 14 weeks...she's tiny and i would not have wanted to take her before this age! ![]()

| ![]() Those are my feelings too--every word exactly! Doesn't mean that it's not possible to have one survive, but in my opinion, it's not what's best. I know some disagree, but that is just my take on it. |
