| my dogs pee everywhere! And i guess we are to blame for not being so strict with this training. We have one yorkie ( who will be 2 tomorrow) and we recently got another one in June who is now 7 months. They both pee wherever when free in the house. They are good if i leave them penned up, but dont hold it in to go outside..EVER!!!! I feel bad ebcause we work long hours, so when we get home, I hate to leave them penned in a room all day. I want dogs that can be with us. We already ripped up all our carpets, but now they are destroying our basement carpet. Our house smells like pee! And it's embarassing. The little one also WONT STOP BARKING if i put him in a room when we are home. Am i too late for help???

| First off Welcome to YT my fellow Long Islander! I think maybe you need to try and supervise them more. Take them out together every 30 minutes. Try and remember when they last had water or food so you can get them outside to relieve themselves. Do you use pee pads in the house? Have they ever been trained? It definitely requires a lot of persistency on your part. Stay on top of them. Good luck |

| We use the pads and they go on them fine at night and all day. Its just teh minute we let them come downstairs with us they manage to go right on teh rug (when there is a pad down there) or when i first get home i let them out for a bit and then they roam around while i make dinner and always manage to go somewhere other than where they are supposed to, but i feel terrible always having them locked up somewhere

| Hello! I work long hours too, my boys are potty pad and outside trained. I have a small area in my 3rd smallest bedroom where I lay down 1 washable potty pad and I also made them a hiking post out of a large bottle filled with water and covered with a washable cloth baby diaper. i do have to section this area off with an expen or they will go potty in other places in that room. this helps me immensely!! They still sometimes mark in other places of the house but they never poop anywhere but on the pad. It works for me, because I'm single and have to be gone 9-10 hours or more a day. Good Luck! I hope things get better. Maybe gate them in the kitchen if you aren't already. Belly bands are another good idea, but if you leave them on too long, they tend to irritate their bellies!

| my dogs pee everywhere One thing I have learned about having a yorkie for many years now is consistency, the same time all the time. Especially when they are young. I generally make them stay in the kitchen area with our side door off that room, then the smaller place to train them is so much easier. I do not let them go in the house where they may get lost and not know where to go. (if that makes sense to you). I have a tv in my kitchen when in training I spend most of the time in that room. Smaller place easier control...It is not easy. And then I feel that they need to be trained for about 3 months before they get the run of the house. Just enlarging their area a bit more the better they get. If they pee when it is a bigger area, we go back to the original smaller area again. I think we all know a yorkie is about the hardest to train. Hope this helps you a little.:-) |

| You can still re train them, but you have to be constant on when you take them outside. They need to be on a schedule, just like a baby. |

| Thanks everyone! I just get so stressed because my husband just gets to that point where he totally stresses out which totally stresses ME out. Our biggest issue is our basement carpet. I can't tear that one up and thats where we spend most of our tie together or when people are over, so i can't stnad the fact that they cant come downstairs with us when we come home from work. PLUS, we are trying to have a baby and it scares us to death to have our house smell like urine or have a baby suddenly crawl into a surprise, which means they will be penned up even more then. ( and i am a sucker for that- it makes me feel terrible) they just CRY and CRY and CRY. my babies are spoiled rotten, and it's al my fault

| Maybe try restricting water intake when they're free-roaming the house? I'd give them a drink and after a certain amount of time (10-30 minutes, depends on your pups) and go outside. Save the absolutely yummiest treats for going in the right spot, my babies LOVE those smelly freeze dried liver cubes AKA "good potty! treats" I have the same concern about not wanting to lock them up - but this means that they have to be baby-gated in the same room with me at all times. If I'm not watching her & Nahla sneaks into a different room, she WILL wee-wee inside!
