| drive by pooper Okay, here's one for ya'll.....We have been doing really good with the peeing thing, but the pooping thing...I swear Tobie does drive by's! I had been keeping dry food down for him to graze since he's a picky eater but last week started taking it up after 15 mins if he didn't eat and then was able to start predicting poopy time. But even now he still does a "drive by" when you least expect it. Good thing they're easy to pick up but does anyone have the same problem? I'm starting to wonder if my house smells like poop when people come over. He snags the same spot every time in front of the tv. Any suggestions? He's almost 7 months old and does this go on forever? | The first thing that I'd do would be to impede using that favorite spot in front of the tv. Either lay something there in his way, spray it with bitter apple, or (probably the best thing to do) use an enzymatic cleaner there so that the smell of old poops is removed. Hopefully, not having his favorite spot available will cause enough of a delay in his "drive by's" for you to catch him!

| Joey is a pee pad pee'er and a poo man when and where he wants. I'll take #2 in the house any day over #1. He's 2.5 years and still squats like a girl, which I hope never ends. His going in the house has declined since the weather has got warmer.

| That's my Vinnie! haha more recently he has taken to an occasional poo on the pad, however before he's quite finished he runs, haha, and it could end up anywhere! Bless his little heart for trying I think he gets too excited! Sometimes he just goes wherever, and I agree, #2 is easier to clean than #1. As long as you feed the right food, there should be little to no smell. Vinnie gets a little cranky and sniffs around a lot so we've been able to tell when a poo is on the way! |

We still have the occasional turd appearing out of no where, but that is rare, and usually if she has had some change in her food, such as some canned food when she usually eats dry.

Mine will pee on the pad but won't poo on it. They have been going outside since it's warmer.

| This will sound gross but try this to encourage your pup to poop on a pad. Pick up a piece of feces with the pad and then then discard the feces. Enough of the smell will linger on the pad to tell the dog "this is a poop spot". You might even pretreat several pads at once. This also works when training to poop outside. In that case, just take the feces outside and leave it in or near the spot where you want the pup to relieve himself. Good luck!

| This is my first substantial pet - I am not used to anything more complex than a rabbit! - and he is only 4 months old; I have only had him two weeks, but much of the behavior mentioned above I already see. He seemed to come a bit "pre-trained" - he held it when in an unsuitable spot and went on the pads or newspaper, then started only urinating on the pads, now does whatever he wants on carpet or throw rugs; I can usually tell when it's coming and move him to the pad, in which case he runs off to do it where he wanted to; I don't want a power struggle here with a 3-pound pup! I would really like to get him to use a box and have the pad in the box now, and have put the stools in there, and put him in there! when I see he's ready to let it go- no luck. I haven't found any info on box training anywhere - just that "it's an option". Does anybody have any helpful hints on training a Yorkie to use a box? Thanks! |

| Poop training Freyja is 14 mos. old and she is pretty reliable for pee pads. She pees 100% on the pad and about 90% poop on the pad. We have let her have the run of the house and she is really good about it. One problem is that if we don't watch her sometimes she will "play with" her poop and scatter it around. We have hardwood floors and tile mostly but I'm afraid the back hall rug is pretty well soaked in poop smell even with Natures Miracle. My solution is to try to get her to go outside now that it is warmer. Has anyone had any luck with switching an older dog from pad to outside? |

| Getting The Idea Rockie Is 95% On The Pad, Potty Always And Poop.... Every Effort Is Made, Occationally One Will Hang Longer And He Drops It A Few Feet From The Pad. Then I Know It's Time For A Trim..... I Got Him To Understand About The Pad By Placing His Fresh Poop On The Pad Just After An Accident, Taking Him To It And Praising The Poop Out Of Him. Leaving It There For An Hour Or So, Then Picking It Up And Flushing It, While Praising Agian. He Understand How Much I Like To Find Poop On The Pad, It's A Treat For Moomy And Flushing It. I Have A 2 Story, So We Have A Spot On Both Floors. I Have To Say, Potty Was Almost Harder, Because It's Harder To Catch A Mistake, So I'd Put Him On The Pad As Soon As He Woke Up. And Make Him Stay There While I Sat On The Floor Next To Him.... And Praised Like Crazy When He Did......... His Thing. In The Beginning I Always Used The Smelly Stuff On The Pad To Get Him Thoughts Going That Way. Anyway, It Worked Well At 7 Months He Is Good To Go
