The first thing that I'd do would be to impede using that favorite spot in front of the tv. Either lay something there in his way, spray it with bitter apple, or (probably the best thing to do) use an enzymatic cleaner there so that the smell of old poops is removed.

Hopefully, not having his favorite spot available will cause enough of a delay in his "drive by's" for you to catch him!
